- what exactly is going on around here? - haven't you heard, angora? there's going to be a big, big, big party! and there's going to be food... - ohh. - music, and food, and decorations, and food, and-- [balloon pops] aah! [cackling] - you all right, teeny? - loud noises scare me, shep. i--i can't help it. i've always been that way. [cackling] - teeny can't control her reaction, angora. it isn't nice to laugh. - hey, everybody. let's meet in the arena after lunch to practice the show we're putting on for the celebration. just found out the local tv station's going to be here. - awesome! - oh, neat! - ooh, tv. - like anybody's gonna see you when i'm around. how's my hair look? - if you must know, like something the cat dragged in. - now what's that supposed to mean?

[wonder whinnies] - hmm. let me check my calendar first. well, it looks like if i juggle a few things, a show is a can-do for me and wonder. - oh, great. now we have to share the spotlight with somebody else. and how are we gonna stand out next to that? - i have some errands. why don't you get chase settled in, then bailey can help you practice for the show? - come on, chase. let's find a stall for wonder. - ok now, the show routines are in this handbook. we'll practice the moves a step at a time until we have them memorized. here you go, chase.

[horse whinnies] - it's kinda... hard for me to read, sarah. i mean, i can read, it's just, it takes me longer than everybody else. i have dyslexia. - ok. - do you know what that means? it means i see words differently than you do. it takes me more time to read. - sure. a lot of people are dyslexic, chase. i have a good friend who is.

- [chloe and zoey laugh] - just what are you two laughing at? - your cousin, of course. chase can't read. - [both laugh] - chase can read. he's a brilliant guy. he makes people laugh. but he never laughs at them, like you do. - oh, well, like there's anything wrong with laughing at people. - i see it on tv all the time. - the internet, too. - that doesn't make it right. how would you feel if people were laughing at you? - not possible. sarah: hello? have you forgotten that one parade you were in a couple years ago? chloe, you were mounting chili, and your pants split wide open. a lot of people laughed then. - ohh, that was the worst. - do you remember how it felt? - it felt horrible. - ugh, i was so angry with the crowd for laughing at my sister-- so humiliating. - look, guys, we're a team here at horseland. and that means we pull together. we don't laugh at each other.

"for the ride we're on, we take trails as they come. "we gallop some, we walk some, "for the ride we're on. "we keep eyes on the path, "take our time, pay no mind "to anything else. don't worry what others think.

awards dinner in washington last night. some black leaders have criticized the president for giving up too much to a publican's and talks about unemployment. strike and a surprising development in the race for the republican nomination. the founder of godfather's pizza won the florida straw poll. >> some people are spreading the nasty rumor that herman cain cannot win. well, i tell you what, that might be what they think, but the american people have a different idea. >> or maintain it earns nearly 40% of the vote yesterday. mitt romney earning 14%, rick santorum got 11%, and last- place michele bachmann. she got less than 2% of that vote. the state of the presidency and the economy are both at the top of the agenda for face the nation coming up after this broad cast area job schieffer -- bob schieffer interviews them at 8:30 a.m. on cbs 5. >> a lot of events going on in

imprisoned in iran for more than two years on the way home. i talked about what they did when they left prison. >> we stayed up all night with our loved ones, and we watched the most beautiful sunset we have ever seen. >> dot for tell and sean bauer are expected to join their families in the u.s. sometime this morning. meanwhile, locally a hospital in oakland is the scene of a lockout this weekend confirming that a replacement nurse committed a fatal medical error. the temporary nurse had them working at the medical center because of a strike or regular nurses. that one-day strike has been followed by a lockout by management. the oakland tribune reports that the 66 euros cancer patient died early yesterday after receiving a nonprescribed dosage of the medication. >> schools on the chopping block in oakland. >> part of a proposal to save millions. >> of the superintendent

proposes closing lakeville, santa fe. the school board takes up the list on tuesday. the final decision is that for october 26th area the announcement came hours after the opening of oakland high schools refurbished council. >> we have 101 schools for 38,000 kids. that is really far out of alignment. so we've got to be able to manage our resources better to serve our children better. >> the district says the goal is to create more campuses like this one, a full-service community school. a nevada city under a state of emergency this weekend. that's after a deadly shootout between rival motorcycle gangs. among the victims, the head of the angels chapter in san jose. this was during the annual

street vibrations motorcycle event. the mayor canceled the event and police in san jose are expressing concern over possible retaliation attacks here in california. police are looking for a hit and run driver after a wheelchair-bound richmond man died in a crash on friday. >> 52-year-old dave cox was fatally hit friday as he wheeled along esmond avenue. witnesses say the driver hit him from hind and then reversed to dislodge the man's wheelchair from the car and then took off. he later died at a hospital. his brother also is in a wheelchair is in shock over the tragedy. >> can't understand a guy just driving off. i just don't understand that. >> being in a wheelchair, he was still very energetic. to me he really liked -- she really loved life. >> richmond police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. the suspect vehicle is an older model black lexus with tinted windows and a rear spoiler.

it's likely the car has some front end damage from the crash as well. in another bay area news, a controversy cooking up at the uc campus. >> organizers of a bake sale that would raise prices on race and gender say they are already seeing a lot of that clash. >> we didn't expect personal threats to be made or in posted and exquisite sets to be made to the organizers of the event to bring down the table to throwing our baked goods at us and other kinds of physical threats. >> the other end is intended to protest the state bill that would allow these thieves to consider ethnicity during the application process. they are planning on basing their prices on such things as well. coming up, the chair of california's republican party joining us live. >> he's going to talk about another debate, another slugfest for the gop presidential hopefuls. are they staying on message or getting off track but we also take a close look at the race and the effects we have on it. spent first, the debate over a

bridge. as you step outside this morning, kind of gray as you look at the shot from the golden gate bridge. a lot of cloud cover out there as well. here is the bay bridge. a little more sunshine speaking through. all of these stepping up the door this morning, mostly cloudy conditions and that chance of showers for everybody across the board at least over the next couple hours. we will find that out in just a bit. conditions this morning pretty mild area this afternoon we are going to clear out, so hope that there isn't rain through the afternoon. mostly cloudy at the coastline. partly cloudy conditions along those bay shores. even cooler conditions than what we saw yesterday dropping down a handful of degrees. future time cast, 8:00 see some of the showers to starting to make their way into northern parts of the bay area and then we start to see them moving. these are all struggles. pretty light rain. we really start to see it makes out early. still seeing lingering showers and parts of the east egg, maybe as far down into redwood city. we start to clear out into

2:00. it's the slow and trough that bring us those cooler conditions and that chance of some moisture today. the rest of the bay area seem cooler as well or -- as well. here in the bay area, maxing out in the mid-70s in the warmest locations. 67 oakland over the city topping out at 62. big changes for monday. a big one of in-store. 83 is a high and are invalid locations. many are warmer as we make the way into tuesday and wednesday. research is the temperatures taper a little bit making the way into the end of the work week. friday and saturday still looking pretty nice. finally someone weather. today feels more like fall but then we look forward to toast your conditions later in the workweek. back to you. >> interesting developments this week in the campaign for the republican nomination. awkward moments for rick. and the presidential debate in florida and indications that

funds time may be having a political challenge. the chair of california's republican party joins us now. good morning. >> how are you? >> before we jumped in with kerry feinstein, i have to ask you about the herman cain development where he wins the straw poll. we report the straw polls. tell us how they are done. >> a lot like here in california, you have to pay to vote. you have to get the people that come into the convention or the -- whatever the gathering is coming to have to pay a fee to do it. these campaigns, what they do is they gather a bunch of money, pay for a bunch of people to come in. the same was true in california when ron paul came in. so it is far less -- how shall i say -- scientific than going around the room and asking. >> a lot of people find her maintain refreshing picture. including members of the gop. he seems to be just up their plain speaking as terry and romney

came across as stiff and stumbling. >> for months i said that. he's got nothing to lose. he's not a perceived front runner. he will be more free to speak his mind. that's what he is. you know what, look, the guy is a real success story. it's not like he's not substantial. he has strong ideas. he's been a great business leader. he is going to continue to speak his mind directly area i'm not saying he's going to win, but i am going to say he has an impact. i've been saying that for months. >> right now it appears to be a two-way race between rick perry and that romney. i would say -- there was a slip. it's hard to tell the difference between the two sometimes. mitt romney comes across very stiff. >> i would have to say he is sort of the al gore of the republican party. rick perry stumbled in this last debate. the question is whether he is ready for prime time.

do you see someone else coming in? >> look, i think it's still a long way to go. i think republican voters are inpatient. they are looking for a leader are you the problem with having a ronald reagan is everybody is judged by it. they are looking at someone who can speak about these issues, personalize them, and inspire. >> is basically now coming to a tie between perry and romney. brought in a lot of people that are really good in california. romney has been here a long time. >> what happened to michele bachmann? >> i think the announcement after the day she met iowa hurt her. i also think the media, for better or worse, tends to focus on a couple people at a time. i think she was in the debates. they stopped asking her as many questions. it made it hard on her. >> okay. let's go to the state.

dianne feinstein, polls show her to be vulnerable. they show barbara bach would be vulnerable as well. do you have someone to run up against some? >> the difference here is that obama is going to be much more troubled for feinstein that he was for boxing. you know, she had a scandal related to her treasure. she's got to throw her own money and. i think we are looking -- there's a couple people looking at the race, some decent names. at least one is pretty good. >> who? >> jim rogan, he is a very good campaign is. >> nobody with a big paycheck, i mean check out? >> mag has a great job now at hp. cement this is just a stay tuned. i think you'll see something within the next month or you may be bring me back in a month and i'll have a better answer. >> i will take you up on that one. thanks for coming by. okay. coming up we have the latest dc hearings on cylinder of.

bit later on this afternoon. in the meantime, from solyndra to presidential prime time debate, our political insiders have plenty to chew on. >> i sat down with willie brown and joe carefully. we were talking about the debates going on and asking willie brown how to prep for them. the first question was, if you were president obama and you were sitting there this week and watching those solyndra hearings and these guys took the fifth on that $535 million loan uk them and they went bankrupt, what would you be thinking? here is willie brown's response. >> oh, my god. can you imagine if you were the president and you gave your blessings to that kind of alone and two guys look in the near and said, hey, i'm sorry it can't discuss it. it may have some implications for my freedom. >> off that tv gets going to take the republicans to put an ad out? >> they have already started. this is gold to them.

this talks about how bad the stimulus was. this is $500 million that went to a company. they don't want the government picking winners and losers. it's solar energy or a republican say, it's not quite ready yet. we'd like to give our money to an existing asp. >> is there anything worse than somebody taking the fifth for a politician? >> one thing worse. the politician himself taking the fifth. >> on a different front, the republicans quite a bash up from the debate. it looks that it's boiling down to that romney and rick perry until the convention. >> we are talking about how rick perry toward the end of the debate seemed tired. could you possibly be tired at the end of an hour and a half debate? >> very easily. sanity wasn't answering his questions. >> let me tell you. very easily. it's probably worse than a football game. at least there are timeouts. >> what is so stressful about being up their? >> you've got to concentrate on

everybody and what they say. you've got to put it in proper context. and verily, you are prepared. you can answer every one of the questions. you don't get the chance. occasionally if they come to you and you are still stuck on answering the question, then michele bachmann covered what kane said. you've got to be disciplined and tough enough to move with the flow. you've got to be really quick. it's got to be almost like you can google every answer. >> it is going to be quite a lineup. i mean, it's getting so into steve. some people are saying, hold them back. these candidates are coming across stiff. >> that the stuff we need to see. i love these debates. i love to watch the drama and the reaction. >> let's take the politics out for a second. in terms of performance -- for example, how do you think rick perry comes across?

>> i think he came across as a loose cannon. you just don't know what comes out of his mouth. also, when it comes to things like immigration, he was not towing the party line. >> that romney told the line, but some people say the guy comes across as stiff. >> i think he did a good job. i think you guys were being a little hard on him. i think he had a very strong showing. i think he came off very well and very attractive as well. probably plays into this a lot more than you would think. >> you would be surprised when people -- you get people and you sit down and talk to them away from the polls and issues. a lot of who wins elections, whether it be for mayor or elections, is based on how the person looks and sounds. >> he was smooth on the attacks. he handled them without looking stressed out at all. i think he did a good job. >> will be right back. we are running out of time. stay tuned. more to come. e the "mystery spot".
