a criminal case involving arizona elections. 11 so-called fake electors who supported mr. trump have been indicted by a grand jury, . one month after the 2020 election, they signed a certificate claiming to be arizona electors. but president biden won the state by more than 10,000 and his electors were certified. it has been investigated for more than a year. >> the people of arizona elected president biden. unwilling to accept this fact, the defendants charged by the state grand jury allegedly schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency. >> other key trump allies were also indicted, including rudy giuliani and former chief of staff mark meadows. overnight, the arizona gop condemned the indictments as an unprecedented abuse of power. donald trump has also been indicted on federal election interference charges. in that case, he says he is shielded from prosecution, due

to presidential immunity. today the supreme court will hear arguments related to whether that is a valid defense. but mr. trump will be in new york, where his criminal hush money trial will continue in a few hours. we are expecting to hear more testimony from david pecker, the former publisher of the national inquirer. > anti-war protests continue to rock college campuses across the country. 93 protesters were arrested in southern california after they refused police commands to disperse. several faculty members at u.t. austin say they will not teach today because of the school's quote, militarized response to a school event. a letter to university leadership condemned police violence against student protesters. a u.t. spokesperson declined to comment. and house speaker mike johnson was booed by students when he visited columbia university. >> i'm here today, joining my

president biden sign ted into l a foreign aid package. idaho's near total abortion ban was argued before the supreme court. the state currently only allows abortions when the mother's life is at risk. the biden administration argued that the ban conflicts with a federal law. it requires hospitals to provide whatever treatment necessary to stabilize the patient. the liberal justices seemed concerned. >> her life is not in peril, but she's going to lose her reproductive organs, and yet idaho says, sorry, no abortion here, and the result is that these patients are now helicoptered out of state. >> idaho's attorney general says the court needs to stand by what it decided when it overturned roe versus wade and added the federal government should not dictate state laws on abortion. meanwhile, arizona's abortion ban that was enacted in 1864 is closer to being repealed.

the state senate is expected to sign a bill to revoke the law as soon as next week. a law enforcement source saying police on long island are searching a new wooded area in the investigation into the gilgo beach serial killings. the suspect, rex heuermann is charged with the murders of four women. he has pleaded not guilty. police are examining whether he is possibly linked to more deaths. the port of baltimore is opening a deeper channel today, it would allow cargo ships to pass through for the first time since last month's deadly bridge collapse. five of the vessels stranded in the harbor will be able to pass through the channel. crews are working to move the ship that crashed into the bridge. several states waking up to severe weather threats this morning. and those storms are sticking around into the weekend. angie lassman is tracking what's ahead. >> we've got a multi-day severe weather event. it's focussed across the mid

michigan, when the city's drinking water was contaminated with lead. and residents say it still hasn't been repaired. maggie vespa went there last week to ask why flint isn't fixed a decade later. >> reporter: in an infamous crisis that put the safety of america's tap water under the microscope, it was the iconic shot. april 24, 2014, the drinking source was switched from the detroit system to the flint river, later admitting the critical failure to treat that river water causing it to corrode pipes and poison people. in the years that followed, flint became famous for images of murky tap water pan cases of contamination. many in children. this week, ten years later, melissa mayes says flint still isn't fully fixed. if you had to use one word to

sum up the fight over the last ten years, what would it be? >> exhausting. it is exhausting, because flint residents have never been off the front lines of the fight. >> reporter: the married mom of three who still uses bottled water for all drinking and cooking is a plaintiff in one of multiple lawsuits brought against the city, state and several current and former officials. suits that have produced major settlements. in 2017, a federal judge demanded the city remove all lead service lines leading into homes and replace them with modern safe ones and repair damage done by that work to yards and homes. the deadline, 2020. four years pastna de that deadl out of 30,000 addresses they've replaced all but 30. advocates have done their own outreach and argues the city is even further behind than they claim. >> they talk about how many homes have been excavated but not restored.

and there's thousands. >> reporter: a judge last month holding flint in contempt, writing the city has failed to abide by the court's orders in several respects, adding it has no good reason for its failures. flint's current mayor, sheldon neily, who took office in 2019 says he wanted the work finished a long time ago. for people sitting at home just thinking, ten years later, how is flint not fixed. what is the answer to that? >> we are working every single day. and everything doesn't happen overnight. we started out with one engineering firm, then another engineering firm and another engineering firm. and some of that information had not been transferred to each engineering firm based upon contracts, based upon whatever reasoning. >> reporter: on top of bureaucratic delays, the mayor says work stopped during the pandemic. he denies the claim that there are thousands more homes needing repair, but he says anyone who

hasn't gotten replaced needs to contact the city. meanwhile, the upgrades to treat the water which comes from lake huron. it's become a priority, with president biden's infrastructure law setting aside $15 billion toward lead pipe replacement nationwide. meanwhile, melissa mayes says the untreated water corroded her home's pipes which the government is not paying to replace. many residents don't trust their tap. it's clear. it looks fine. >> the problem is, we don't know what's in this, because lead and other dangerour dangerous conta have no odor or color. >> reporter: some children have damaged kidneys and growth rates. >> without the external pressure, it's going to be another ten years and then another and another.
