congress. the senate overwhelmingly passing a $95 billion foreign aid package. president biden promised funding to ukraine and israel and says he will sign this bill into law today. this legislation also includes the potential ban of tiktok in the united states. the clock could soon be ticking for the app to divest from its parent company. here's savannah sellers. >> tiktok is am major foreign threat. the bill we are passing today puts an end to that. >> reporter: the senate voting to ban the wildly-popular app, tiktok, in the u.s. >> foreign adversaries use it for social and political control. >> many young americans, particularly young americans, are skeptical. at the end of the day, they have not seen what congress has seen. they've not been in the classified briefings congress has held. >> reporter: while those outside make an urgent plea to the capitol. >> every bit of my livelihood is tethered to tiktok. >> our elected officials are on

tiktok. we believe if it were dangerous they wouldn't be there. but they keep trying to reach us there when it's convenient. >> reporter: the legislation heading to president biden's desk. he's indicating he will sign it, the app's kparntsparent company have at least nine months to divest. tiktok's promised a legal challenge, writing in a memo, we will move to the court and the ban would impede the free speech of users. it raises serious security and data concerns. >> through this process, have you learned anything about american's data on tiktok that does really concern you? anything concrete? >> yes, rivers of data are being collected and shared in ways that are not well-aligned with american security interests. >> reporter: tiktok, the closest it's been to time running out.

savannah sellers, nbc news, washington. the continuing israeli attack on gaza is triggering mass antiwar protests on college campuses on a scale we've not seen in the u.s. since vietnam. the university was set to be disbursed by midnight. but the deadline has been extended to 8:00 a.m. eastern, just hours from now. campus authorities justified the crack downs by citing safety concerns for pro-israel jewish students. at new york university, more than a hundred people were arrested. the protest movements have condemned all anti-jewish bigotry and insist the demonstrations are peaceful. >> nyu has been involved in a campaign for suppressing pro-palestinian speech for six months, seven months. >> meanwhile, house speaker johnson is set to meet with jewish students at columbia today, amid an uptick in campus

anti-semitism. now to a followup on a story we covered here yesterday. the uncovering tof mass graves n the gaza strip. they are accusing israel of mass atrocity as the idf retaliates for the october 7 attacks. for the latest, let's go to matt bodner. what do we know about theis investigation? >> good morning, frances. the united nations appears to be just as alarmed by these images as everyone else this morning. we saw yesterday, calling for transparent, international open investigation and not just into one mass grave site but the discovery of a second one in the past day. that one, of course we covered yesterday, the first one, that very large site at nasser hospital with about 300 bodies discovered. now we're hearing about a second site at the al shifa hospital in gaza city and khan yunis.

the u.n. chief saying he was horrified by the destruction of both hospitals and the discovery of these grave sites. he's calling for an investigation. several u.n. officials are. the u.n. has not yet officially launched an investigation. the way this usually works is essentially now one of the major u.n. agencies that usually handles these types of things will have to launch an investigation formally. but the u.n. says in the meantime, what they're doing is working to corroborate reports out of al shifa of have 30 bodies. the idf may have somehow been involved in these grave sites. the idf is denying that. they have admitted that they were exhuming bodies from some of these sites. they say they were looking for deceased hostages, running dna tests, other types of identification and respectfully returning bodies to where they were buried. of course the gaza civil defense also admitting that locals had been burying the deceased in

these grave sites because they couldn't access the cemeteries, frances? >> matt bodner, thank you. testimony will continue tomorrow in the criminal hush money trial of donald trump. it was a tense day in the manhattan courtroom. the former publisher of the national inquirer answered questions about the scheme to catch and kill negative stories about donald trump. here's alice barr. >> reporter: back on the witness stand in former president trump's criminal trial. the ex-national inquirer publisher, d publisher david pecker testified he worked with michael cohen to bury stories that could have damaged the 2016 trump campaign and to embellish negative stories about mr. trump's political rivals. pecker testified the arrangements stem from a 2015 trump tower meeting with cohen and the former president. the case centers on allegations that mr. trump colluded to illegally influence the 2016

election and falsify business records to cover up an alleged affair, all accusations he denies. >> what's going on is a disgrace. >> reporter: the day started with a contentious hearing over whether mr. trump violated the judge's gag order, barring him from publicly attacking witnesses and jurors, something prosecutors say he's done repeatedly, citing his comments about cohen right outside the courtroom. >> he got caught lying. pure lying. >> reporter: the trump legal team arguing the former president is defending himself as a presidential candidate, not a criminal defend ant. a prosecutor rejected that, saying throwing maga into a post doesn't make it political, it may make it more ominous. the district attorney's office is seeking a fine and warned it could escalate to jail time for future violations. it all comes as president biden is on the campaign trail, speaking in florida about what

democrats see as their most highly-motivating issue, abortion rights. the two candidates, very different days highlighting the pressure of this campaign season. alice barr, nbc news. tennessee lawmakers are sending a bill to the governor's desk that would allow teachers to carry concealed guns in schools. the controversial measure was met with protests at the state house. the bill comes a year after a tragic school shooting in nashville that killed six people. 32 other states have already passed legislation, allowing teachers to carry guns in schools as states across the country grapple with how to address school violence. the next few days could bring storms to the middle of the country. but first a blast of cold is on the way. angie lassman is tracking it all. good morning, angie. >> good morning, frances. you are waking up to freeze alerts across parts of the midwest. this affects 30 million people. some of this is going to last until thursday. we've got a couple days of chilly air.
