ntsb before we take further action in that area. with that, i did want to introduce the fbi for a few comments, as well. >> hello. my name is dell delvanio, the special agent in charge of the baltimore field office. first and foremost, i want to say that our hearts go out to everyone that is impacted by this tragedy, especially the victims and their families. on behalf of the fbi, i would like to say that we are with you, we are with baltimore, and we are with the partners every step of the way. the fbi, very first looking at and assessing this matter from an investigative standpoint, i want to be clear that there is no specific or credible information to suggest that there are ties to terrorism in this incident. the fbi has been part of this response from the beginning.

we came within one hour to the command post and quickly latched up with our very strong partners all along the way. we will bring whatever resources that the fbi has to bear. we've already brought our crisis response, our victim services, and just recently, our underwater search, evidence recovery teams are on site. we will continue to provide all those resources as long as it takes. as the investigation goes on, we will take it to its logical conclusion along with our partners. to the people of baltimore, to the public, i ask you to be patient as we go through this and as information becomes available to us. lastly, thank you. thank you to our partners. thank you to everyone who counts

on the fbi. we will always bring what we need to the people of baltimore. we are with you. i'd next like to introduce the coast guard. >> good morning. the coast guard is actively searching at this time. we are using response boat crews from two of our coast guard stations. one of the helo crews from atlantic city, and also one of our cutter crews on one of the 87th patrol boats. we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners during this tragedy. thank you. >> governor? can you -- >> governor? >> -- traffic in and out -- >> as far as you are aware, was the collapse of the bridge inevitable as that ship hit that part of the bridge? >> we're still in the process of investigating exactly what happened. we don't have any further

details about whether or not it was in inevitable or not. >> no structural issue with the bridge? >> the bridge was up to code. >> was all shipping in and out of the port now stopped completely? do you have any estimate, very early on, as how how long it'll be before shipping can resume to the port? >> we don't have estimates on timeline. right now, our exclusive focus is on saving lives, search and rescue. >> governor, could you give us a better sense on the number? we heard -- i know mr. weidefeld said the one was rescued. earlier, there was two. can you tell us the total numbers that maybe you're searching for, and how many have been rescued? >> well, there are eight individuals, six are being searched for right now. one is -- was taken to the hospital. one is not in the hospital that

we're speaking to. >> six unaccounted for? >> yes. >> does that involve individuals that may have been in vehicles that went in the water? >> or is that the -- >> we believe it's the construction crew. >> what about -- >> we don't think there is anyone in vehicles in the water? >> no, we do not believe so. >> were there any -- >> question right here. take this question here. >> governor, how quickly did you find out about what happened here, and what was your reaction when you heard the scale of what occurred? >> well, i mean, it was -- i think it was probably within minutes of everything, less than an hour when i know my phone first rang. first, the mayor of baltimore, former chief of staff, and it was -- we know the key bridge. i've ridden over the key bridge countless times. so many of us know the key bridge because it is our normal commute. this is a place that is a normal commute route for over 30,000

marylanders every single day. and so to hear the words, that the key bridge has collapsed, it's shocking. and heartbreaking. immediately, the first thought and the first idea goes back to what happened to the people? where are we -- what was the impact on human life? but for every single one of us who are marylanders, the words that the key bridge is gone, it still shakes us. because for 47 years, that's all we've known. so this is -- this is not just unprecedented from what we're seeing and what we're looking at today, it's heartbreaking. >> governor, can you confirm that the crew on the ship alerted authorities that it had lost propulsion and was in trouble? >> we can confirm that the crew

notified authorities of a power issue, yes. >> and then they had lost power on the ship? >> yes. >> was there any ability to shut down the bridge before it happened? >> i'll take a question right here. >> [ inaudible question ]. now, you are looking for six people. one is in the hospital? >> excuse me. >> total of eight. one rescued in the hospital, one not in hospital. we've communicated with that person. six we are searching for. >> also, with the. [ inaudible ] >> we were all related to the construction program, yes. >> we heard that multiple vehicles went into the water. any word on how many vehicles went into the water and the condition of those people that were inside? >> not at this time. >> over here. >> was there any way to shut down the bridge?

was there enough time for them to stress call, to trigger something like that? >> the thing that we know is that, you know, even as the boat was coming in, you know, we had a ship that was coming in at 8 knots. coming at a very rapid speed. we do know that the investigation is currently going on, but i have to say, i'm thankful for the folks who, once the warning came up and once notification came up that there was a mayday, who literally, by being able to stop cars from coming over the bridge, these people are heros. they saved lives last night. >> can you -- >> the focus is on rescue now. looking forward, is there any vision for how long it could possibly take to remove the wreckage and rebuild, how it can possibly be done? can you look into the future? >> this is going to be a long-term build. it'll be a build that's going to

require every facet and every aspect of our society. it is something that i can tell you we are going to get this done. we are going to make sure that this is not just -- not just rebuilt but that we are going to rebuild in a way that remembers the people who this tragedy has impacted and also do it in a way that honors the community it serves. right now, i could not give you any form of estimate on timing or cost right now. all our exclusive focus is we're trying to save lives. >> can the mayor comment on the state of emergency locally, please. >> yes, thank you. listen, we know the governor issued a state of emergency. we have at the local level decided to do it, too. we may have to work with the fire department and other agencies that can pull down support as we all work together. again, as we're focused now on saving lives and working through this unspeakable tragedy. >> is it --

>> in the interim, i know there's obviously the focus on the rescue and recovery, but this is such an important thoroughfare here in baltimore for drivers, people trying to get around. how are they going to be able to manage while that is also going on? >> we've already been in touch with people about alternative routes and ways people can navigate now that this tragedy has happened. secretary, if you want to? >> just give you a sense of scale. roughly about 35,000 people in a day use that facility. about double that use the harbor tunnel. double that again use the fort mchenry tunnel. we have two other options. we'll make sure that we have as much personnel out there to deal with any incidents because, as you know, that can cause backups quickly. we will basically put out communications on alternatives. we're looking at transit alternatives, as well. >> what role will the legislature play in this response?

are there any [ inaudible ]? >> the legislature is going to have a role in all this, as will our local elected officials and state officials, as will the federal government. you know, everybody is going to have a role in terms of how we think about the rebuild. >> was there a -- >> when do we expect shipping to be closed down in the port? do you have any estimate in terms of the port here? >> we don't at this point. we don't. >> ships going in and out at this time? >> we don't have an estimate on timeline as of yet. our focus really, right now, is making sure we're saving lives. >> one last question. >> are they able to get out of the port or no? >> sorry? >> the ships docked at the port, can they get out or no? >> the one that's caught under the -- >> the port. >> oh, yes, still at port, yes. >> one last question. >> was the ship being guided out by tugs, firstly?

did you issue a mayday in enough time that you were able to stop all traffic from entering both sides, so the only casualties we expect are the workers on the bridge? >> yes, ma'am. so the investigation is still going on. we're going to have all the full details and also all the full details about the timeline and the tick-tock that took place. we're thankful that between the mayday and the collapse, that we had officials who were able to begin to stop the flow of traffic so more cars were not up on the bridge. i can -- >> there were some of the bridge or not? were there any? >> during the collapse? >> yeah. were there some on the bridge? there have been reports that sonar detected vehicles at the bottom of the water. in addition to the eight people, there could be people trapped inside and died in vehicles, is that correct? >> the investigation is still going on to find out exactly how many people were in the situation. the thing we do know is that many of the vehicles were

stopped before they got onto the bridge, which saved lives in a very, very heroic way. >> thank you all very much. we'll have another update later. >> this is a huge detail. we don't know -- >> governor wes moore of maryland and other officials briefing the media on the latest on this extraordinary event that took place in baltimore in the early hours of the morning. the key bridge there over the baltimore harbor collapsing just about completely after a cargo ship rammed into a support structure of the bridge. the video astonishing to watch no matter how many times you've seen it this morning. the moment when the entire bridge falls into the water. we learned a few things from that news conference. the governor saying that all signs point to this being an accident. the fbi adding there's no credible threat that this is related to terrorism at this moment. that the crew did notify authorities as it left the harbor that it was experiencing a power issue. we learned most crucially that there was a call to stop traffic

on the bridge before the moments of impact. i want to turn to nbc's tom costello for the rest of what we learned, including how many people are being searched for at this hour. i think, tom, a bit of a question as to whether or not, despite the fact that there was a mayday from the crew and bridge traffic was stopped, whether or not there were other vehicles on the bridge that may well be in the water now. >> reporter: so, the fire chief from several hours ago said there were vehicles in the water. according to the news conference you heard from the governor and other state officials, there are six people unaccounted for right now. they believe that they are all construction workers. you know, i'm wondering out loud, savannah, whether those cars may have belonged to the construction workers. because this was an overnight pothole repair team that was up on the bridge. as you know, if you drive through construction sites on the highways at night, very often, those workers have parked their own cars along the side of

the road. we'll see whether that is a connection. nonetheless, they're now saying six people unaccounted for. they were part of the overnight construction team on the bridge doing pothole repairs. also, the fact that they were able to stop the traffic on the bridge may have saved many lives, savannah. >> absolutely. a mayday from the crew, a crew that, as far as we know, is still aboard that ship as the entire harbor of baltimore is shut down at this hour. we'll continue to cover this breaking news. a cargo ship leaving port from baltimore, hitting the key bridge, a key thoroughfare, part of interstate 695. more than 30,000 vehicles a day crossing that bridge, but it is in the water this morning. the investigation is just beginning, the search and rescue under way for at least six people unaccounted for in the frigid waters. much more coverage on our streaming channel nbc news most of you will now streaming channel nbc news now. and online. most of you will now return to the "today" show.

garrett, good morning. mr. trump's day in court yesterday was a mixed bag. one judge giving him financial breathing room while another slammed the door on his legal maneuvering, setting the day for his legal trial he had hoped to avoid. this morning donald trump now has a trial date in the new york city hush money case he long fought to see delayed or dismissed outright. >> this is election interference. that's all it is, election interference. and it's a disgrace. >> reporter: the judge setting an april 15th trial date for mr. trump. in what would be the first formal trial for a president in history. the presumptive gop nominee lashing out on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to alleged husband money payments to porn star stormy daniels. >> i don't know how you can have a trial like this in the middle of an election, a presidential election. and this is, again, this is a biden trial. these are all biden trials.

>> reporter: but even as mr. trump sat stonefaced in a new york courtroom, a new york appeals judge was handing him a victory, in another case. cutting the bond owed by the president to more than half, to $175 million as he appeals the civil fraud just against him. >> i respect the appellate division for substantially reducing the amount of money. >> reporter: mr. trump saying he will have the cash within the new 10-day deadline imposed. >> now that the bond's been reduced, are you going to start putting money in your campaign? >> yeah, yeah. well, first of all, it's none of your business, frankly. but i might do that. >> reporter: the trump campaign using the appeals court ruling to fund-raise for both their political and legal accounts, texting supporters, quote, huge victory, but now is not the same to celebrate. >> it raises a good question, garrett. if somebody is donating to trump campaign, is he able to use that for his legal bills or

we are back. 7:30 on the east coast. a live look at what's left of baltimore's key bridge after that container ship slammed into the bridge, a support structure of the bridge and caused it to plunge into the river below. rescue crews at this hour searching for at least 7 people were who on the bridge at the time and fell into the chilly waters below. >> let's bring in nbc's ryan nobles who is right there at the scene for us. hey, ryan. good morning. >> reporter: hoda, good morning. and we have quite a bit of updates from baltimore where we're is he scene of this bridge collapse. we're told by officials that they are still searching for six people who fell into the water after this bridge collapsed overnight. they were part of a construction crew that was working on the bridge at the time. they did rescue two people from the waters. one of which was sent to the hospital. the other escaped without any injuries. miraculously, we're learning now that the ship appeared to inform officials that it had lost power.

and as it was making its way toward the bridge. they were actually able to stop any vehicular traffic from going over the bridge at that time. and at this point, officials do not believe that any vehicles or cars fell into the water at the time of the collapse. and as a result, that means the only people that they're searching for right now are those construction workers. there was a period of time where they were concerned that they didn't know the number of people that could be victims to this collapse, meanwhile, this is causing a major infrastructure problem here in the baltimore region. this is a bridge that 35,000 vehicles travel over on any given day. so that's going to mean traffic backups and a lot of difficulty throughout the area. the governor committing to rebuilding the bridge at some point. but said that it would be a long and costly rebuild. and that right now, this focus, and the focus of these first responders is on recovering those victims. and that this remains a search and rescue mission. it is important to keep in mind

that the water is very cold. and the chances of survival in water at that temperature would not be for very long. that's the latest from baltimore. we'll send it back to you. >> horrifying, you can imagine families knowing that their loved ones have been on the bridge working through the night and wondering what has become of them this morning. >> that was such a tragic scene. we'll continue to follow and have another update. let's turn to another story making headlines, agents who executed a series of raids in homes belonging to music mogul mogul sean "diddy" combs. investigation teams seen descending on his multimillion dollar home in los angeles going federal agents in body armor and carrying long guns swept through amid public scrutiny over sex allegations. multiple homes belonging sean combs better known aciddy and puff daddy.

and growing scrutiny over sex abuse allegations. overnight, heavily armed federal authorities staging coordinated coast-to-coast raids at property belonging to music mogul sean "diddy" combs. investigation teams seen descending on his multimillion dollar home in los angeles going room to room and hauling away boxes. across the country, more investigators swarmed his property in a wealthy section of miami, appearing to carry out a laptop. multiple sources tell nbc news combs was in miami during the searches and had several phones seized before he was scheduled to leave foy a trip to the bahamas. >> the speed it would appear at which these raids were conducted suggests that agents were concerned they needed to secure evidence quickly and prevent anyone from destroying evidence before they got there. >> reporter: the raids, which lasted into the night, carried out on search warrants out of new york into allegations of sex trafficking, according to a source familiar with the matter.

the source also telling nbc news multiple witnesses have been interviewed by prosecutors and investigators in relation to combs, who is facing an onslaught of civil lawsuits, alleging sexual assault, sex trafficking and the illegal distribution of guns and drugs. among his accusers, little rod jones, a music producer who originally filed a lawsuit against combs in february. jones alleged that combs forced him with sex workers and pressured to engage in sex acts with them. jones amended that civil suit after the raid, adding oscar winning actor cuba gooding jr. as a defendant, alleging that gooding groped jones while on combs' yacht. representatives for gooding did not immediately respond to requests for comment. >> cassie for holding me down in the dark times. love. >> reporter: last november, she accused combs of physically and sexually abusing her for years.

this morning on "your health," practical ways to deal with anxiety. so according to a census bureau survey, nearly one in three adults reported experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms last year. gabby bernstein, self-help author, spiritual coach, podcast host, she's here and will offer simple ways to find relief. i think there are -- let's talk about anxiety just as we start out. so some people are feeling anxious or having anxiety. but there is something underlying that is triggering it. so how do you know what you should be paying better attention to? >> well, i definitely believe that the root cause of anxiety symptoms of anxiety. we might just push past it or ignore it. but ultimately, it will catch up with us. and so we have to really be aware of that. >> pay attention to it.

>> and you know firsthand, because you study it and you're actually a student yourself. so when did you discover that you had anxiety? >> i believe i lived with an undiagnosed anxiety disorder for probably two decades, but i found that i hit my knees with anxiety when i was diagnosed i hit my knees with anxiety when i was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety and depression. this is something i have to always think about whenever i'm publicly anywhere because so many women push through it and they try to avoid it or ignore it and pretend like it is not happening. it is a life threatening biochemical condition. in those cases, you must speak with your doctor and follow a medicated suggestion if you need it. >> you have ways and techniques that you can deal with anxiety. if you feel something coming on, you have ways that you can try to kind of break it down before it gets there. tell me. >> absolutely. the greatest thing is we can interrupt the response. >> sure. >> one that i love, which is just focussing and funneling your energy somewhere else. >> okay.

>> so, it's focusing on five things you can see. hoda, what can you see right now? >> i can see you, the table, the tick tacks, the cup. >> focussing your attention on what you can see. >> okay. >> and then four things that you can cup. so touching the leather of the bag. >> what does that do? >> it's focussing your energy and your attention off the perpetual state of anxiety and getting your senses activated. so when you're in that place of sens sensation, you're touching the tip of the pen. >> okay. >> and then you focus on three things that you can hear, right? we can hear the humming behind us. we can hear the clicking of my foot. so focussing on what you can hear. >> okay. >> and then two things that you can taste.n taste. and then your senses. >> so five things you can see, four things you can touch, three

>> back now with "today food." this morning we're getting ready for easter sunday with our pal laura vitale. the youtube star and cook book best stuffed artichoke you will ever have. chef, great to see you. what makes the easter pie so familiar for you, for your childhood? where'd that come from?

>> so when i was growing up in naples, we make something call a pista the, and everyone has their own version of it. but in naples, you make this for easter weekend and you really primarily eat it on easter monday. so it's meant to be eaten cold, and it makes for a great make-ahead. it's a picnic food, because on it is a picnic food because on easter monday you go away with a picnic for a family and bring picky food. and the pizza rustica is a must. >> it takes me back to my nonna, takes me back to having to do this job. you start with a straightforward pizza dough. add sugar. >> what kind of flour? >> all purpose flour, a little salt, a little sugar. i use instant yeast so i don't have to bloom it. then you're going to go ahead and add some water and knead it in it comes together. then zhuszh it up. that will come together in a pizza dough. let it rise.

once it's risen, build your pie. to build your pie, you need lots of salami which are italian deli meats. we like these. salami and prosciutto and cap cola in every grocery store. give it a nice rough chop until it looks like this. then add some hard boiled eggs and sharp provolone that's been finely diced. mix this around a little bit. if you wouldn't mind, sir. >> yeah, happy to help. >> and then in here, i will mix together some eggs, a little bit of ricotta. in every household, you find different versions of this. y n it various. >> you can make this on saturday. and you eat it cold. is it supposed to be eaten cold? >> it's meant to be eaten at room temperature so it holds together. and you want to add that in

here, and what you do is you basically take your pie crust -- your pizza some have more you have risen. and take that -- >> he is risen. thanks, craig. >> add it to a 10 inch cake pan, if you will. add that mixture to your cake pan. i like to also add lots of parmesan reggiano. you will add that straight in here. and that will sort of puff as it bakes. it is so delicious. you will take some of the pizza dough because you will divide that into two pieces. >> you can add anything in here. there could be olives in here. there could be anything. >> it is great to be eaten on your antipasta platter cold. with fava beans and ricotta salata which is very typical. >> what is the relationship between the salt and the rising of the dough. >> the salt is basically just to enhance all the flavors of everything else. then just trim this down, brush

the top with olive oil and bake it until golden brown. make sure you make a slit so it bends and makes. >> how do you like it, al? >> really good. >> and it is pretty sensational. now we move on to artichokes. >> why would you ever eat quiche again if you have this? >> unless you want something hot. you're going to move on to artichokes. when we have them boiled. it goes on your antipasta. platter with, like i said, your fava beans. but we also like them stuffed in our family. find really good artichokes. they should be really big, bright and green. they can be difficult to find, but you can make most artichokes work. the important thing is you get rid of these few layers at the bottom. then go ahead and snip the rest with some kitchen sheers. take the top, cut it off altogether. keep a bowl of lemon water here because they will oxidize. using the spoon, get rid of the choke.
