right now at 5:00, a heartbreaking update in the crash accident in the san francisco bus system. one victim died and what we are learning about one of the survivors.

and then in the east bay, what caltrans is saying about the roads being opened up on-time. the perfect weather day for the marathon today. we are at the finish line for an exclusive interview with steph and ayesha curry, and talking about their nonprofit. the news at 5:00 starts right now. thank you for joining us on this sunday. we begin the night with a tragic update in san francisco. a third person died following the crash yesterday at a bus stop. we first told you about this as breaking news last night. the crash happened around noon yesterday at a boss stop outside a branch library. four people were waiting inside a bus shelter when a car hit it, and two people and a child died at the scene. police confirmed a woman has

died. it's not clear if she was the driver or hit by the car. we also learned the other victim is a baby. at last check the baby is still recovering from serious injuries. tonight a memorial is growing at the site of the crash. people stopping to leave flowers and toys to pay their respect for the victims. we spoke to one mother that says she walked by the bus stop every day. >> i have my child, and i have gifts and i don't want to imagine what the family is feeling in this moment, how heartbroken it is for all community. police does not feel the traffic and engineering was a factor. we, of course, are going to follow the story and bring you updates about the story as we get them. head to the website, nbcbayarea.com, or download our free nbc bay area app to get alerts sent straight to your phone. tonight san francisco's

police chief is responding to calls for transportation into a deadly track of a chinese immigrant. she was pushed on the sidewalk in the bay view neighborhood last july and later died from her injuries. police ruled the incident an accident, and no arrests were made. the person accused of pushing her was arrested for a violent assault on a 71-year-old chinese woman last week. activist are demanding police release the video from that incident and that it's investigated as a hate crime. london breed said she wants the video to be released once the investigation is complete, saying, quote, i believe in transparency and stand with the api community for justice and all victims and survivors of hate incidents. as soon as possible, i want the video released.

and the police department weighed in, saying the death of wu is a tragedy. our investigators are working diligently on the case, which is an open and active investigation. in all cases, we look for evidence of motivation, including possible hate crimes. we are expecting to hear from alameda county district attorney, pamela price, tomorrow, who is facing a recall right now. earlier this month, save alameda for everybody, the group behind the effort dropped off more than 123,000 signatures supporting, and that's well over the 73,000 they needed. they used a sampling effort but it was not high enough to have a recall, so they are hand counting those signatures. the robberies started around 6:00 yesterday evening, and

lasted throughout the night. robbers targeted cars across the city, including at a high school, a mall and hotel. police say 30 cars were hit with various personal items stolen. so far no arrests have been made. check out this. a rollover crash in san francisco lands the driver in the hospital. this is video posted on the citizen app. it happened just after 10:00 last night at jackson and ghost streets. the driver also hit several unoccupied parked cars. paramedics took the driver to the hospital and they are expected to be okay. police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. san francisco police are looking into yet another illegal side show. you are seeing it right there. this one happened just after midnight on 13th street and south van ness. no word on any arrests.

set to reopen on-time, that's what caltrans is saying about the partial shutdown of a major east bay freeway. as we were reporting on friday, caltrans closed southbound 680 between the 580 and 680 connector and highway 24. the weekend-long closure let crews repave the road in one go. caltrans shared this video of the work and gave us an update. >> we ripped up the old concrete and put in new powers and now are waiting for that to cure. we are removing to remove the brush and working on asphalt repaving on the off rams and on-ramps of pleasanton as well. >> caltrans says drivers can expect a smoother ride. the weekend closure will mean fewer individual nightly

closures in the future. you can see blue skies and scattered clouds, but it was a great weekend to go out and enjoy much-welcomed sunshine. how long will things stay like this? of course that is a question for rob mayeda, who is here to tell us more. >> a gorgeous day today. the best weather of the entire week arriving on a weekend for a change. that has been nice outside for the st. patrick's day, and we have 70s around walnut creek. a bit cooler than san francisco. there's the reason why. we have a west wind at 15 miles per hour, and almost summer-like microclimates around the area, and san francisco is starting to cool off in the 50s and low 60s towards oakland. we do have to watch out for patchy low clouds coming back across the bay for the morning. i think one thing to watch for your morning commute tomorrow, a

combination of the coastal fog and the potential of patchy dense fog. we could see a little more heading towards tomorrow, but once we move forward to tomorrow afternoon, the warmest day of the week coming up tomorrow. we could be looking at upper 70s on monday as the spring-like weather continues to the middle part of the week. changes are just around the corner in the 7-day forecast. we will talk more about when the rain chances increase around friday. we see a cooldown head into next weekend. a look at that coming up in a few minutes. >> the 70s look so nice. it was a beautiful morning for a marathon today. an estimated 10,000 people kicked off their st. patrick's day at the starting line of the oakland marathon this morning. look at them go. the annual marathon is now partners with steph and ayesha curry's foundation. tom jensen got a chance to sit

this week san francisco's transportation agency will meet to discuss the rollout of new cameras to catch speeding. san francisco, oakland and san josé and three other california cities will install the cameras. busy areas including embarcadero near pier 39, and 41st avenue to skyline boulevard, and mission

street and soma are expected to get the cameras. there will be a total of 33. st. patrick's day is today. president biden started the day with an irish brunch, and she was joined by leaders of the catholic church and some 200 invited guests. st. patrick's day festivities continued in the bay area as well. in dublin, plenty of people came out for the day two of the 40th annual festival. things kicked off with a 5k race this morning, and it featured irish dancing and food. check this out. it's a flying leprechaun. this was in san carlos today. that was for the luck of the irish, and the stunt was part of the museum st. patrick's day

celebration. it included a scavenger hunt and other fun activities. landed just fine. >> good weather for that. not windy and good visibility. >> absolutely. >> a lot of people, including myself and my partner, we are so stuck and our allergies have been going crazy. >> yeah, and we are looking at the pollen count. take your pick, everything really in the high range as we look at that and the temperatures. very spring-like on technically the very last weekend of winter around the bay area. here are your top offenders for the pollen count right now, oak, cedar and pine. if those make you run for the kleenex box, this week that will be an issue with the dry weather. at times, breezy, too. the pollen counts come up along with the temperatures and sunshine earlier, and 70s around san josé. 70s out towards the tri-valley.

picture perfect st. patrick's day in dublin, and still seeing the low 70 temperatures. and low 70s in walnut creek. the afternoon sea breeze cooling to 57 degrees around san francisco. as you head further inland, seeing the 70s, the upper 70s around san martin to the south. calistoga at 72 degrees, and 72 in concord. the thing to watch tonight and tomorrow morning is the coastal fog, and overall a repeat of what we had today. temperatures, at least tomorrow, could be trending a little warmer. we will start the day in the 40s to low 50s. areas of low clouds, and then clearing skies inland. watch the temperatures jump up in the mid to upper 70s. south of san josé and the tri-valley, low to mid-70s across the north bay.

coastal fog, and maybe south of mount hamilton, you will have to watch the afternoon hours as we get the heating of the day, and they could fire up thunderstorms south of lake tahoe. no rain for the bay area, but something to watch if you are heading up to the hills in the afternoon hours, especially around the sierra. later this week, definite changes for the bay area. on friday, we have more rain and sierra snow in the picture again. looks like this weekend, hopefully you had a good time being in the sunshine, and back into the rain chances and cooler temperatures returning with more snow, winter weather advisories and winter storm watches could start off next weekend. in the meantime, the next few days as spring officially starts, 8:06 on tuesday evening. warmest day coming up tomorrow, and then things turn cooler again in what seems to be a running theme this year, weekend

to hold a new election. he says a new election would force israel to stop fighting and paralyze the country for months. he said an assault on the southern city of rafah could be weeks away. he said international pressure will not stop israel from achieving its end goals. nancy pelosi defended his remarks this morning. >> what is wrong in advocating for democracy. again, it's a democracy, and people have different views and they express them and that's a beautiful thing. for him to say -- what does that say if he won't even say that as the war winds down, the people of israel should speak.
