bombshell indictment about his handling of classified documents at mar-a-lago, now alleging that the former president tried to have potentially damning evidence against him destroyed. today er president trump is facing three more criminal charges. related to his handling of highly classified documents at mar-a-lago, made public in a new indictment filed by the special counsel thursday it charges mr. trump with one additional count and two additional counts of obstruction. it also adds a new third defendant, mar-a-lago property manager, carlos de oliveira. the surveillance video key to the new charges. prosecutors say when mr. trump heard of the government's request for classified material from mar-a-lago, he said, quote, i don't want anybody looking through my boxes and isn't it better if there are no documents the government says the boxes were later moved
7:05 am
after the fbi's search of the property, the government demanded surveillance video. the next day prosecutors say the former president called his property manager and spoke for 20 minutes two days later according to the documents, they, quote, went to look at surveillance video in a security booth and walked through a tunnel pointing out surveillance video days after that, he met with a security officer saying that the boss wanted the server deleted the employ responded that he, quote, would not know how to do that and he did not believe he had the rights to do that. the indictment which outlines various meetings does not say whether they were able to delete any video. the lawyer for de oliveira had no comment mr. trump in an interview with fox news digital overnight called the charges ridiculous and said he is facing harassment he has already pleaded not

guilty to 37 felony charges, brought by the special counsel in june. >> we have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone >> reporter: we also learned yesterday that mr. trump's attorneys did meet with prosecutors from the special counsel's office about that 2020 election interference case mr. trump later calling that meeting productive whether the former president will be indicted related to that case and on what charges remains unknown. savannah >> garrett, thank you. we turn to laura jarett. good morning a superseding indictment with a new defendant and new charges. we learned a lot from this yesterday. let's talk about these new charges because they really put meat on the bone of this obstruction case the allegation that the former president and some of his aids tried to cover up the mishandling of classified documents. >> this really strengthens the prosecutor's hand because it helps them tell a story to the jury that will make sense.
7:07 am
we don't have to understand the president's motive for hoarding these documents allegedly, but the idea that he actually conspired to attempt to delete prosecutors, you can just hear the closing arguments. ladies and gentlemen, why would anyone do that he said all along, i had the right to these documents, but if they're deleting the security footage, it makes it appear they knew they were doing something that was against the law. >> it seems the prosecutors were playing hardball with these mar-a-lago employees now another employee being charged here do you think this is a pressure campaign to say you better come over and tell what you know or you are looking at serious prison time? >> sure. these are not household names. these are staff at mar-a-lago and staff at the white house that followed him down when you are facing serious prison time, your incentives change a little bit here they have text messages and audio.
7:08 am
prosecutor it don't have to show all of their cards, and given the level of detail here, it makes you think that employee number four described in this who is relaying that the boss wanted us to delete the server, it's clear that he's probably cooperated with the government and turned over a lot too, and so it just makes you wonder what else they have, and the two other defendants may not know all of that. >> >> we also learned something that goes to the heart of the documents that the president is accused of handling. we have heard this audiotape where he's bragging about this document and he's ruffling papers and showing some document saying, well, this is highly classified now we know something more about what that document was. >> yes this is a iran planning document, that a former president apparently was showing off. the prosecutors telling people who were not authorized to receive classified information but it was not clear whether the justice department received that document, whether they had actually got it back now we know he did get it back he actually returned it. it is the only document he's charged with that he actually
7:09 am
returned all the other documents in the case, they had to fetch for mar-a-lago it make us wonder whether they're charging it now because he said, i don't have it or it didn't exist and they're putting this in to show he wasn't actually telling the truth about that >> it's interesting because one of his defenses was, i was ruffling papers. they weren't this classified documents, so it makes it interesting. >> it is another piece of the puzzle. >> thank you very much. guys, as we head into the weekend, there is more extreme weather to discuss the record-shattering heat wave is dragging on for weeks in some parts of the country it is beginning to scorch the mid atlantic and the northeast al, of course, is tracking the temperatures and severe storms but let us start with emilie ikeda, trying to keep cool she's not far from us down the street in central park. >> reporter: you see everyone behind me trying to squeeze in their morning exercise before the temperature climbs to the mid-90s. parts of the east will see

triple digit temperatures, and we are far from alone. 150 million americans across the country are under heat alerts. so we're talking about roughly half of the u.s. population experiencing this extreme heat you take a look at areas like el paso, texas, for example they have seen triple digits temperatures for now more than 40 days in a row in phoenix, arizona they have seen temperatures topping 110 degrees for four weeks in a row last month was the hottest june on record for around the world and scientists are already saying that this month is looking to be the same and if it's not the extreme heat, it's severe storms we saw dime-sized hail hammering parts of minnesota powerful winds knocking over trees. today 30 million americans are bracing for another round of severe storms. >> yeah. the heat is on the rise, and gas prices are as well
7:11 am
>> reporter: yeah, that's right. think about such extreme heat that could actually cause equipment failures at oil refineries that will push up the prices at the gas pump the national average for a gallon of gas climbed 18 cents, according to experts we talked a lot about the air temperature. but certain surfaces can actually -- walk with me here, can actually climb higher. we take a look at the black top here, 82 degrees right now but on a day like this, hoda, it can climb to 140 degrees. >> wow and it is only 7:10 in the morning. all right. thank you so much. all of this sets up nicely for mr. roker who has his eye on all of it. >> yeah, guys. we had the hottest june on record and according to the meteorological organization, first three weeks of july, the earth's hottest. and it's the warmest three-week period ever. so july will be the hottest. and august right now setting up to get more of the same. but the good news is there is

good to see you. so, first of all, this is very bizarre. when you think about it, you get a tick bite and then you have an allergy to meat. so draw the connection there. >> who knew? perfect story as we're about to grill over the weekend we learned more about it in the last 15 years or so since it was first published in 2008. it is called alga gal allergy because that is the sugar found in the meat. what happens is the tick carries this saliva because it produces it or bites wild animals then it bites you, injects the saliva into you. you think that's foreign and you make antibodies. then one, two, three months later, you sit down to have your burger or your piece of red meat, and it sounds the alarm
