it is wednesday morning as we take a live look in san francisco right now. it is the hump day for a lot of us during the workweek. we thank you so much for startling your day with us here on qu"today in the bay." >> this is one of the last cooler days we'll have? >> yes, by tomorrow it will be just a little bit warmer but friday it really starts to go up. here's a look at our san jose temperature trend, looks really good today and it's going to be breezy, few clouds during the morning. reach into the upper 70s in the south bay today, few spots in the 80s and we'll talk about

that and temperatures. mike, is there anything happening this early on the roads? >> a great drive. a smooth report on ch-nstructio disturbance here.. the upper east shore freeway, where some folks are waiting in the cash lanes because not all of the cash lanes are open yet thisrning. the richmond/san rafael bridge drives nicely in the north bay without any problems as you would expect. >> back to you. >> a woman led police on a high speed chase overnight through stanford's campus. tried to pull her over but they drove away. eventually they surrounded her in the hills ox alexis drive past the count warrant assaulty weapon. police tell our crew they use k-9s and tasers to catch her.

pete s5:30. a bizarre incident in the east bay. you can see how it all ended. a car slamming into a residential care facility. the authorities say the driver lives there and did this on purpose. this happened last night in san leandro, investigators say this driver slammed his car into the home shortly after deputies tried to pull thear over. his car struck one of the eight people inside. no injuries here and he is now under psychiatric evaluation. >> 4:32. continuing coverage in the pawnee fire, gaining a little ground on the wildfire. >> here's where things stand this morning. it is 17% contained and 13,000 ac "today in the bay's" melissa colorado has the latest from spring valley are lake county fairgrounds. >> things are looking up for the people here in lake county and all thanks to this army of

firefighters stationed her at the lake county fairgrounds. over 2500 firefighters from all parts of the state are here to help battle the pawnee fire. there's even some crews from as r awa as oregon and arizona. on tuesday the pawnee fire spread east into remote areas far from homes and businesses. cal fire is optimistic that we could see the containment levels go up. the power is back on in some parts of the mandatory evacuated area like the community of spring valley. residents are wondering when exactly they'll be allowed to return home or when the streets will reopen. as they wait, many are thanking the fire crews for all of their hard work. >> they risk their lives, they are awesome. i have a lot of admiration for them. i do. >> and their families. bless their hearts. >> firefighters are working with a deadline because this weekend s 35 miles iple county. that could add fuel to the per hour in this area o pawnee fire. that's the latest here in lake port, i'mlora, quts

adding to yesterday's gains after the state department ordered companies and countries to stop buying oil by november. a tight global market, the dow posted modest gains up 30 points and nasdaq rose 29. imagine flying from new york to london in just two hours or perhaps more significantly, california to tokyo in a mere three hours. boeing has unveiled a rendering of a hyper sonic jet that could potentially do it. the key will be developing lightweight materials and new engines to propel the jet at speeds of up to mach 5 or under 3900 miles per hour. of course the idea generates a lot of buzz but right now only a concept. it will likely take decades to become a reality. air bnb figured out a way around strict rules on apartment rentals in a major vacation spot in paris. partnering with century 21 to make sure everyone gets their

low 80s for a lot of the inland areas. concord 79 degrees. livermore 80 degrees and it's going to be breezy. well, napa today reaches 76 degrees and oakland 67 and 62 degrees in san francisco. so we start out this morning, you'll probably be comfortable with some light long -- light short sleeves andr jeans. a nice day but breezy. jacket needed as well. in onsho the strongest of those winds tomorrow the winds dockff at le the parts of the south bay and the east bay and the north bay. s wind shift omin in from the north, that' gng to heat things up. we continue to see the wind shifting and no more of that onshore flow into ocean breezes. it's going to be blowing offshore on saturday. and our temperatures are going to be hot. so look at our numbers for the

next few days for the inland areas. going from 80 degrees today to 98 degrees on saturday. it does come down a few degrees for sunday but still78 degrees . mike, you have that clear view of the moon. strawberries start to bloom in early summer. it's not red though, just full. you can see them sort of silhouetted by the light there. a clear view of the moon and 580 moving nicely through dublin. livermore out of the altamont, the typical slowing up to grant line, that's where the area has the slower stretch and things clear up. down here a disabled vehicle reported somewhere around mckee off of 680. wait until chp gives us more deta. over here i did forget this one closure and i apologize. highway 4 off of highway 80, they are closed in the westbound direction until just before 5:00 which is right about now. should be clearing the overnight construction work and that will be going on for a few days.

former president, george w. bush and vice president joe biden's foundations. it also finds that nearly 70% say that american democracy wea. -- 50% say america isn a real danger of becoming a authoritarian country. a vast majority still believe in democracy and say it's important to keep. governor brown will get a raise right before he leaves office. state lawmakers approved a 3% pay themselves and for brown. the governor's salary will go from 196,000 to $202,000. members of the legislature will get a $3500 raise. make about $110,000. this is the sixth straight yea laakers have given tmselves a raise. and a yes v to protect the bay area from the next drought. now that wait begins for more funds. santa clara valley water district decided to buy a reservoir and land around it.

good morning to you on this wednesday. a live lk out of dublin. mike inouye will have a look at the traffic in just a bit. at 4:55 this morning, happening today, marriott hotel workers across the country and here in the bay area plan to protest. they are asking for better pay and protections from sexual

harassment. the local protest is happening at 4:00 at the oakland marriott city center downtown. we're also learning more than 1300 marin county workers plan to strike startingsunday. they are asking for better pay as well. that strike is expected to last three days. county officials say the strike will not impact the county fair or emergency services. seamlessly everywhere you look around san jose, something is under construction. that's good news for workers but it could be bad news for you if you're planning on home renovations. city says building permit requests for remodels and home additions continue to rise, which means if you're looking to do work around the house, you might have to wait a little bit longer than expected. workers are actually opting for the bigger and more lucrative jobs around the city rather than the smaller home improvements. >> it may only be june but the u.s. postal service is already planning for the holidays. >> it's beginning to look a lot like classic christmas. in october the u.s. postal service will ring in the 2018
