carter. saddling up perhaps for a performance at stagecoach this weekend. question, question mark. why some are betting on beyonce surprising everyone. what do you think about that one, janai? >> janai: i think i'm waiting with bated breath to see. >> gio: it will be epic if she does. >> whit: other stories we're following. >> janai: sean "diddy" combs wants some of the claims in the sexual assault lawsuit against him to be dismissed. his lawyers saying those laws didn't exist at the time of the alleged attack. plus, a big shake-up at southwest airlines. what it could mean for passengers. >> gio: first we are going to begin with that tornado outbreak in the heartland. multiple twisters reported overnight in the omaha, nebraska, area and millions of americans are under more severe weather alerts this morning. back out to abc's melissa adan in elkhorn with the latest. good morning, again, melissa. >> reporter: good morning, gio.

it is just so difficult for these families, we imagine. they were on edge overnight. now you can see why. as the morning comes up in elkhorn, a community near omaha, you can see all of the damage. so many of these homes totally torn out by that tornado, and we're talking about so many people that had to either evacuate, cower for their lives, and seeing what was inside of their homes, as they work to figure out what is next. overnight, tornadoes tearing through the heartland. >> this is a strong one too. that is not good. >> reporter: more than two dozen reported in nebraska alone. this neighborhood in elkhorn flattened. homes shredded. a drone video capturing the damage, roofs ripped off homes. >> i was crying like a baby, because it was just the scariest feeling in the world. you're helpless. >> reporter: residents now picking up the pieces of what's left and search and rescue efforts still underway. at least two people injured in the town according to local

officials. >> we've been very fortunate with very few injuries. it seems like our warning systems in the city of omaha have been very effective. >> reporter: about 70 people trapped inside this manufacturing business in lancaster county, after a tornado slammed into it injuring three people. and in the state capital of lincoln, this tornado swirling near an event center sending debris flying. >> lots of debris in the air. >> reporter: nearby a powerful twister crossing interstate 80. >> semi is overturned. >> reporter: storm chasers racing to check on the driver of an overturned tractor trailer. >> he's okay. he's okay. >> reporter: more than 78 reported tornadoes and counting. this dangerous outbreak is far from over. now, this community also dealing with the power outages having to clean up so many of these homes, the debris that's littered everywhere but, janai, the threat is not over yet. this as several of these states across the heartland are

watching yet another round of severe weather expecting more tornadoes possibly throughout today. janai. >> janai: millions of americans still on alert. melissa, thank you for that update. now to the big changes coming to southwest airlines. dropping service at some airports and thinking about changes to a very popular policy. abc's alexis christoforous is here with the details. hey, alexis. >> hey, janai, just in time for the busy summer travel season and southwest airlines is exiting four airports following a big loss in profits and delays in getting planes from boeing. they will end service this summer in cozumel, syracuse, bellingham and washington state and george bush intercontinental airport in houston. those airports were not performing, which was the deciding factor in cutting service there, and cutting half its flights in atlanta, and

about a third at chicago's o'hare, and expects to end the year with 2,000 fewer employees. the budget airline is trying to cut costs after losing more than $230 million from january to march. now, it's also considering ditching its signature open seating policy and possibly start charging customers to pick their seats. the first come first serve no seat reservation is what southwest is known for. most other major carriers already charge passengers to choose their seats. southwest says no decision has been made yet but it is, quote, seriously studying seating and the way passengers board planes. an announcement is expected in september. but southwest says it has no plans to change its bag policy so you can still check your first two bags for free. whit. >> whit: all right, some potential big changes coming, alexis. thank you. lawyers for sean "diddy" combs filed a motion to dismiss some claims in the sexual assault lawsuit against him. his attorneys want claims such as revenge porn and human trafficking to be dismissed saying that laws against those actions didn't exist at the time the music producer is accused of

completing her first half marathon last month. >> i'm so privileged that i've been able to maintain my mental health. this is a free medicine. >> reporter: and now i'm following in her footsteps running my own half marathon for the first time. it's been a bucket list goal of mine for the last decade after i developed debilitating arthritis and needed a full hip replacement in 2013. but fast forward 11 years and 3 kids later, i decided training for a half marathon would be a good investment in my own postpartum mental health. >> running isn't easy, okay. there's a very small percentage of people that actually run. so the fact that people from "still i run" or people that are interested in running for their mental health can get out of bed and get that run on "still they run". it's incredibly inspiring. >> my biggest advice i give most people is just enjoy the experience and enjoy the energy and just have fun. >> janai: now we will bring in

a teary-eyed dr. you know we are friends. us doing this piece totally came from a conversation in my office. >> when you randomly decided to bring it up. >> janai: to bring up that i had a full hip replacement. >> just it was a fun fact. >> janai: and you were shocked. yeah, you were completely shocked. >> it's just so unique. it tracks for you. >> janai: right, thank you. so, yes, i went through this -- arthritis in my early 20s and it got so bad you could see i was limping there. it was like bone on bone, needed a full hip replacement. i'd run track in high school but for the longest time i couldn't run. talk to us first just about the benefits of any kind of exercise but especially running for mental health. >> well, movement and running benefits us not just for our physical health but our emotional health. you know, when you look at the most recent data, it shows those who rung compared to those who don't have decreased rates of depression, anxiety and stress. janai, i think the most interesting way to describe it

when neuroscientists talk about running it's like bathing your brain in all of these beneficial chemicals, endorphin, serotonin and dopamine. if you could bottle it, it would probably be sold out. >> janai: it's tough to run ten miles and training but getting the fresh air, sunlight. all of your body moving, it feels so good but for someone like me who has a hip replacement i have to be mindful of these things. what do you need to take into consideration? >> you have to be mindful. talking to your provider if you can, your surgeon about what are your limitations especially if you have something as specific as a hip replacement. also even possibly getting a physical therapy rereferral to understand limitations can be beneficial. some may not be able to run. walking it also beneficial as well. >> janai: as you heard, forward is a pace. that's what i'm telling myself. i'm not trying to break records but just want to finish it and the sense of accomplishment. >> i'm so excited to watch.

fuentes proposed changes to the traffic flow in a san francisco neighborhood are on hold. last month, the crash killed a family of four at a bus shelter in west portal, and the city quickly moved to try and improve safety. but now local leaders are asking for a second proposal to be developed with greater focus on passenger zones, traffic impacts and the location of bus stops. let's take a look outside right now with lisa. good morning. lisa. >> hi zach. good morning to you. it is 55 degrees here in san jose. look at all the sunshine. nice day ahead. upper 60s for you. 55, in hayward. san francisco is at 51. you can see some of the clouds here from mount tam. we do have a marine

[ laughter ] i've never had brisket. but this one is really easy because you use the slow cooker. >> you don't need to use your often at all. -- oven at all. that could be for your sides. i put a brisket in here. if you use a first cut brisket, ask your butcher, it's thinner and will cook even, i salt and pepper it and onion soup mix saves time and flavor. if you do it overnight gets all the way through the brisket, not just the top of the beef but ready for the best part? we'll add more onion soup into there so extra flavor. best friends forever. oh, yes, yes. right there. i'll mix it right into there so everything is the same flavor so crazy easy to make and then do you want to pour this in there? you can give its top hat to the brisket. >> janai: can you -- >> no, no, no.
