live doppler seven right now. and we're going to talk about where it is coming down in the santa cruz mountains. we are seeing heavy rain at this hour right around highway 117 in scotts valley. as we move up towards the peninsula from mountain view, woodside street level radar into redwood city, seeing downpours, san carlos, burton avenue and you will notice pretty much all the way to san francisco. we are seeing some light to moderate showers. also in the mill valley tiburon area, emeryville, oakland. all steady showers at this hour so we're not completely done with this system. as a matter of fact, we've had a few lightning strikes off the monterey coast just in the last few hours. so we're not out of the woods just yet. the winds, luckily, have come down 34 miles an hour amount. it will remain gusty in the hills. breezy elsewhere tomorrow it's going to be a breezy one. not nearly as windy as it was today. this is a level two storm on our storm impact scale. the low is still off the coast, which means we're going to get fed some bands of showers. 2 a.m. might be woken up by the rain. hopefully not as

that was on fire and watched this exterior wall go up in flames. >> reverend kevin deal is talking about a suspected arson fire at saint john the evangelist episcopal church, the historic mission district building charred on the outside, the smell of smoke saturating the sanctuary. the fire department responded extremely quickly. >> we're so grateful for sphere, and they said to me multiple times, they're really careful not to damage our organ, which were so grateful for existing as a treasure. >> the reverend racing to the scene of the fire, which was called in on good friday around 230 in the morning. >> there were fire trucks all up and down, julian and the big ladder over the church and water flowing through the streets, and it smelled like fire. so i thought the church was done for the church building, and the damage meant the church couldn't open its daytime shelter. >> we were able to put up tents outside. our folks came in and

as shocked as we were, our folks were equally like shocked. >> lydia branson is the executive director of the gubbio project, the nonprofit operating the shelter and other services out of the church. >> to have your safe place be affected by something like a fire is jarring for everybody. >> and as for the weekend's easter services, the reverend says they've been given the go ahead by the fire department and the shelter will likely be open back up tuesday. but that could be short lived. >> the future holds construction and when they're doing the construction, there'll be a question of how we can do our services, especially sleep while there's construction going on on the church. >> in the meantime, they're starting to collect donations in hopes of getting repairs done quickly. and they have a message for the people they serve. >> we are going to be here to serve the community regardless, and we're going to come at it with love, like we always have. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> governor newsom today announcing an effort to fight

crime by installing 480 cameras in oakland and along east bay freeways. he says the camera network will allow opd and the chp to get real time alerts for vehicles linked to crimes, which will aid and support the efforts of law enforcement to focus on stolen vehicles. >> this is proven technology. >> the city of hercules has been using these cameras for over five years, and it's been an effective tool for law enforcement. but some residents worry about added surveillance, infringed on privacy. but the company behind these cameras says state law provides safeguards against how that data is used. each camera, estimated to cost about $3,500 to operate annually, and they're expected to be installed by the summer. dramatic new video shows the moment somebody shot into a man's car on interstate 880 this week. the chp says this is a road rage case happened just before three on wednesday afternoon near alvarado-niles road. the driver had minor injuries from the window glass

shattering. chp says they've already arrested the suspected shooter, and they're asking anybody who saw what happened or may have any information about this case to please call them. governor newsom making a push for an award winning podcaster to be pardoned. newsom filing the initial paperwork for earlonne woods. the governor cannot pardon woods outright because he has multiple felony convictions. woods launched the ear hustle podcast back in 2017. while he was incarcerated at san quentin. he was paroled in 2018 after 21 years in prison, but he's still doing ear hustle. a pardon would restore some of woods rights lost due to convictions. new developments tonight in the effort to clean up this week's deadly bridge collapse. the biggest crane on the entire east coast is now set up in baltimore. but it can start clearing what's left of the bridge just yet. more than 1000 engineers are studying the wreckage of the francis scott key bridge. they're trying to figure out exactly how to break it up. crews will have to cut it into at least 3 or 4 pieces. so

it's light enough for cranes to lift. divers also on standby to search for the bodies of the four remaining workers presumed dead in the bridge collapse. to go out there and to see it up close, you realize just how daunting a task this is. you realize how difficult the work is ahead of us. nearly two dozen crew members are still on board the ship that crashed into the bridge. they don't have power. they don't have internet, but they do have enough food and water to last them. first responders say they can't pull the crew out until the bridge pieces are cleared away. marin county officials have issued their first public health alert due to rising fentanyl overdoses . the new alert system was created in response to an influx of 911 calls for both fatal and non-fatal overdoses. they've also been testing their wastewater, much like san francisco does, pointing them to a recent increase in substances of concern. and while the direct impacts are not yet known, officials hope their warnings can help bring down fentanyl

related deaths. measles cases remain on the rise, with the nearly 100 cases reported in the united states this year. that's almost double the total from all of last year. so what can you do to protect yourself as well as your family? abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez got some advice from some local doctors who are sounding the alarm. >> several bay area health officials are releasing a unified message be vigilant as measles cases rise. >> a lot of times when we're putting out statements, there's already a situation happening. this was really an opportunity for us to be more proactive, do what we really want to do and prevent cases, prevent larger situations from developing health officers from all nine bay area counties and others are urging the public to be up to date on measles vaccines. the message is particularly important for anyone traveling internationally out of the bay area's three major airports. we are a hub for international travel in the bay area, and we know that people are going to be

traveling internationally for spring break with their families, with their friends. the cdc says 90% of measles cases in the u.s. is linked to international travel. most cases reported this year have been among children 12 months and older who had not received the measles, mumps rubella vaccine. doctor jason nagata, a pediatrician, says measles presents the greatest risk for children under five years old. >> in general in the bay area, we're pretty good about vaccination rates. but that being said, we're not perfect and many kids got behind during the pandemic. their immune system and respiratory systems aren't as robust as older children and adults, the cdc says. >> mmr vaccines are 97% effective against measles. doctor kyle graham, an ob gyn, says they always check to see if immunity from the vaccine is still valid. in expecting mothers, we have been getting a lot more inquiries about measles vaccination and the mmr vaccine. >> the mmr vaccine is something that we check in. every pregnant woman, to see if that, to see

what their vaccination status is. there will be some people that need to get a booster. to be honest with you, i needed a booster. and so if you want to be certain that your vaccine is still valid and still working, you can definitely talk with your doctor about doing a simple blood test in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news a beloved child care center in marin county has been saved and will remain open. >> the ross valley school board approved the sale of fairfax san anselmo children's center, a nonprofit called the siderman legacy children's fund now owns the property and plans to lease it back to the child care center. the $2 million deal comes after the district voted to evict the center, due to it needing too many costly repairs. that center has been open since 1973, and i'm like, what are me? >> are you kidding me? >> i'm not going to believe this . a bay area woman finds herself in a bizarre legal battle in hawaii. the surprise phone call she got about a plot of land

partnership, hired him to build about a dozen homes on properties the developers bought in a subdivision where lots are identified by telephone poles, pjs construction said the developers didn't want to hire surveyors recently. >> there's a lot of fingers being pointed between the developer and the contractor and some subs. >> the unsellable house became a nightmare, a neighbor who requested privacy said squatters were immediately attracted to the brand new vacant house. >> before they put the fence on this property, there were people coming already to this property started, you know, looking inside when she visited and saw the bathrooms, reynolds discovered they'd done more than just look. >> both had poop. the hallway one had poop on the floor and it was so disgusting. >> along with the cost of fencing, she's also paying property taxes that went from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. the developers tried to settle the issue, offering to swap her their lot right next door or sell her the house at a discount. she refused. both offers. attorney james

dipasquale said she shouldn't pay for what she doesn't want. >> it would set a dangerous precedent. if you go on to someone else's land, build anything you want and then sue that individual for the value of it. >> after trying to resolve the problem, co development partnership sued pj's construction on the architect, the prior lot owner's family and the county which approved all the permits for construction. they also sued anne reynolds. >> it's awful. it's awful hard to believe, frankly. >> daryl huff, reporting there, the developer told local media he pulled all parties involved into the lawsuit in hopes that a judge can help unravel all this half million dollar mistake. new at 11 the port of oakland considering altering the oakland airport's formal name, which as of now is the metropolitan oakland international airport. officials want to replace the word metropolitan with san francisco bay. so the full name would read san francisco bay

oakland international airport. it's a little bit like the los angeles angels of anaheim. this is a step to help airline service sustain passenger traffic and reaffirm the airport's proximity to san francisco. the airport code and visual brand would stay the same . lowell high school may soon have to change its testing requirements for admission. this, according to the chronicle at san francisco, school officials proposed a plan for all students from public and private schools to take the same test in the winter of eighth grade. the elite school says using these scores would provide equitable access to admission. lowell had previously changed to a lottery system, but then there was a lawsuit and that prompted a return to merit based admissions. an investigation is underway after hundreds of beehives were stolen from a ranch in the central valley. the ranch owner says nearly 200 hives were stolen from their property near selma. farmers used the bees to help pollinate and grow their crops. agencies say beehive thefts are common in

drive. street level radar oakland seventh street. you can see the heavy rain falling. also heavy right around the 17 area santa cruz mountain summit road and we pan around to parts of the north bay marinwood san rafael fairfax. we are seeing some steady light rain, so this system is going to continue to spin off the coast for another day, and then it's going to head towards southern california. until it does, we're going to keep adding up the rainfall. here's what we have so far. about an inch and a half in ben lomond. that was our highest total 9600. santa rosa, a san francisco. so a half an inch a third of an inch there in oakland, san jose and concord. as we look at our temperatures, it certainly feels more like winter, 40s and 50s. a live view from exploratorium. you can see the raindrops on the lens overnight tonight. wet gusty thunder. chance. tomorrow you're looking at showers. you'll see some sun breaks and the possibility of thunderstorms on easter. it's going to be a mix of sun and clouds, isolated chance can't be ruled out, so if you're going to sunrise services

because a total solar eclipse is crossing most of the north american continent. and here at the exploratorium, we're going to be inviting people to come celebrate this kind of celestial phenomenon with us. here in san francisco on pier 15, we're going to get to see about 30% plus of that eclipse. so not full totality, but if you're a visitor on site, it's a great time to come down, celebrate with us. we'll have the live stream from the path of totality for you to view and activities and engagements for other ways that you can experience the eclipse. the eclipse happens when the moon passes between the earth and the sun, blocking some of the sun's light from hitting the earth. so experiencing an eclipse is really being somewhere in the moon's shadow. and since the moon is smaller than the earth, that shadow on april 8th is only going to be 115 miles wide. so to experience a total solar eclipse where the moon blocks the complete sun out of the sky,

you need to be in that 150-mile-wide shadow, which traces a path as the moon moves through the sky. and that san francisco is not fully in that path. that's why we're going to experience a partial solar eclipse here. but the exploratorium for the last 25 years has been sending out expeditions around the world to make sure to broadcast telescope images live from the path, which we call the path of totality. the moment when the moon completely blocks out the sun, it is really an awe-inspiring moment. i think people go crazy for the eclipse because it's a moment of human vulnerability that is us to bear witness in things that we don't have control over, but that can affect us greatly. and so we take that as a learning opportunity at the exploratorium. we'd like to encourage you to investigate those feelings and see what else you can learn or expand your perspective. so i will be there
