pigskin expert, danny new is here now with more danny. >> sorry, this is the football going through my head. catch it. here we go. okay, but yes, the kickoffs needed a revamp, right? because back in the day, kickoffs used to be like one of the most exciting plays of the day. but my dear andrew, who could forget back in super bowl 41 when a former miami hurricane devin hester opened the game with a 92 yard touchdown return? but then we learned more about concussions and how world class athletes just running full speed at each other is quite dangerous . so the nfl moved the kickoff forward five yards. the ball would just kind of sail straight to the end zone, and it's led to a record amount of touchbacks and fair catches, meaning a lot less returns. but still, after all that, league officials say the rate of concussions per kickoff remained relatively constant cut. two what the xfl has been experimenting with for a few years. the nfl's version will look a little different
1:51 am
than this, but essentially now everyone besides the kicker and the returners are going to line up at least five yards from each other, and no one is allowed to move until the ball lands either on the ground or in somebody's hands. so it's a lot less like charge. so let's see what lions head coach and former nfl tight end dan campbell thinks of this innovation. >> it feels like what we've done with it, it's been so condensed that it's the impact is out of it. you know, doesn't mean there won't be an injury. but and so i think i think what's got a lot of people spooked a little bit is the unknown of it. and that's what excites me. like, and guys, listen to this. >> if you want to attempt an onside kick now you have to announce it to the refs beforehand. and then you can line up in that normal onside kick fashion. but there will now be no more surprise onside kicks like we saw after halftime in the saints colts super bowl. if you remember that yeah there's also for safety. >> no this is a little bit
1:52 am
different. it's because that the rate of onside kicks recovered went down. and the nfl wants a little more action towards the end. so hopefully this is one step and some other changes as well. but as you mentioned there danny i mean it's all about player safety. a lot of those catastrophic injuries the nfl would happen because they're charging at each other from 80 yards away. yeah. full speed. they're trying to avoid that. but you also want to see kickoff excitement like our boy devin hester. >> that's right. >> hopefully this will be that balance where we can make it a little safer for the players but also still enjoy. and by the way, anytime there's a rule change, there's always a group of people come out and say, i hate this. >> you know, they hated the challenge, the challenge flag. now we all love it. yeah. >> when you see the new overtime rules, that overtime this year, i'm all for it. >> if you're on supplemental oxygen, heavy and awkward tanks can be a burden. >> now you can leave home and leave the tanks behind with inogen portable oxygen therapy that moves with you. >> with my inogen now i'm able to do the things that i've always loved. i just press the
