right. like much of these dolphins are like right. and he's just like yeah like not tens. >> we're giving them it's not a dixies splashes a little bit. yeah. this morning though weather wise we are done with the weekend rain. we're getting a break from the action in terms of any wet weather this morning. we do have the cloud cover left over. so we'll start out a view from sutro tower. it is calm, but we do have mostly cloudy skies upstairs. you can see some of that cloud cover from our san jose camera this morning. a mix of sun and clouds today. partly sunny at times, but we are dry all day today so you don't need the rain gear. temperatures are on the cooler side for today. upper 50s to the mid 60s. by about 4 p.m, a cool high of 59 in the city, 62. in oakland, about 64 in san jose. let's see how that commute is going with gloria. good morning. >> good morning drew. you know, so far it is going pretty good. however, it is starting to get a lot busier out there even just in the last hour or so. so if you take a look here at our bay bridge toll plaza camera, you can see it's really starting to

fill up there from the maze of san francisco will take you 20 minutes. and right now traffic is backed up from the grand avenue overcrossing and taking a live look outside right now at our golden gate bridge camera, you can see not too many cars out there right now, so it's a nice and easy ride from the north bay. >> kumasi thank you gloria. oakland's only in and out has grilled its final burgers as it became the first restaurant in the chain's history to close. abc7 news reporter lena howland here. with the reaction from the community. >> lena kumasi this restaurant first opened in 2005, but ongoing crime on the property and in the neighborhood left the burger chain, making the tough call to close over safety concerns. their final full day of business off of hegenberger road brought in a long line of customers yesterday from firefighters to young adults that had their first job here. this while warning signs to customers, are still posted across the parking lot about not leaving anything of value in your car, city officials hope the incoming police chief can

stop other businesses from packing up and leaving town. oakland mayor shang tao's office announced friday that floyd mitchell will begin his new role as opd chief in early may, making it far more than a year that oakland has been without a permanent chief. city council member noel gayo says he has expectations it's going to take, a strong police chief action, and working with our police department, the neighborhood, and make sure that this does not continue. in a statement, in-n-out says we are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years. but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our customers and associates. the company says employees can transfer to other restaurants or receive a severance package. live in studio lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. community members in the east bay are calling for police to stop responding to mental health emergencies. this is in response to an incident in southern

california where deputies shot and killed a 15 year old with autism. on march 9th, san bernardino deputies shot and killed ryan gainer. he had been acting out and a family member called 911. body cam video shows ryan with a gardening hoe charging at a deputy. that's when police started shooting yesterday. activists in oakland held a vigil for ryan, calling for us to decriminalize mental health care. >> right. we're calling we're calling for us to decriminalize autism, right. because people are neurodivergent. it's not a death sentence. >> ryan's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the county. the community here in the bay area is calling for trained mental health professionals to respond to these types of calls, not police officers. >> developing news former president trump is facing a deadline today to post a bond of nearly half $1 billion in his fraud case. and gloria, if he doesn't post it, he's risking having his assets seized. that's right. >> kumasi donald trump is demanding that new york keep its hands off trump tower as the state gears up to potentially

seize some of his assets. a new york judge found that trump and his adult sons overstated the value of nearly every major property they own to get more favorable loans and other advantages. attorney general letitia james has said the state could start seizing trump's assets as soon as today if he fails to secure a $464 million bond. trump's lawyers have said he ■does not have that cash. >> his lawyers have said he can cover at most about a quarter of the civil fraud judgment and anything more, they said, would be a practical impossibility, trump has claimed on social media he's sitting on $500 million cash, but he hasn't provided any evidence. his lawyer said he may have been referring to money accumulated over the years that he intended to spend on his campaign, but he's now complaining democrats are trying to bleed him dry amid all his legal woes. >> trump's appeal for a lower bond amount is still pending. meanwhile, trump is expected to appear in a new york courtroom

today in the hush money case involving stormy daniels. today, the judge could set a new trial date. trump denies wrongdoing. in both cases, reggie thanks gloria. >> investors approved a deal to make trump media a publicly traded company. the majority of shareholders of digital world acquisition corporation voted in favor of a merger with the former president's social media platform. trump stands to get an estimated $3 billion and will own a dominant stake. >> you sort of see on the chat boards people who are true believers that trump media and its various components today, primarily truth social, is going to become a dominant media platform. and so they believe they're getting in early. and this is going to continue to run. >> the deal is not likely to solve trump's issue of paying that $464 million bond by today, the companies have indicated the merger could close as soon as next week. the billionaire backed group that wants to build a new city in solano county says its opponents are spreading misinformation. this has to do

with people gathering signatures to get the project on november's ballot, according to sfgate. some people say the signature gatherers are misrepresenting the measure as being for better roads or to protect cuts to benefits. in a statement on its website, california forever says that's not true. the statement says signature gatherers are provided with a fact sheet. the group also posted a photo of the signature form showing the text that says the ballot measure is to rezone farmland to develop a new community. >> it is the first week of spring, but the weather has delivered a wide range of threats across the country. hail hit southern california over the weekend and tornadoes and blizzard conditions have resulted in power outages and travel delays in the midwest and on the east coast. outside of philadelphia, recovery efforts are underway for a six year old girl who was swept away in a rain squall, and creek crews will return to the water today in hopes of finding her. coming up, a health alert, a doctor

back in front of the supreme court. justices will be hearing oral arguments on commonly used abortion, drug mifepristone. activists called for protected access to abortion pills on the steps of san francisco's federal building over the weekend. justices are considering rolling back fda approval of the drug to be dispensed by mail. they could also take back nurses authority to prescribe it and rights to take the pill. ten weeks into pregnancy. >> impact not just particular medication, but potentially the power of the food and drug administration in other areas that would be of benefit to the health of women and everyone on this will be the court's first case involving

abortion since it was overturned . >> roe v wade was overturned in 2022. the measles could be easier to get than covid. that's what one local infectious disease expert is saying. concern continues to grow over the spread of measles as the u.s. tops the total number of cases for all of last year. there are at least 64 cases and 17 states. four of those cases have been right here in california. doctor peter chin-hong of ucsf says the drop in vaccinations rates for measles is likely fueling the rise in cases, and he explains how it could be easier to get the measles than it is to get covid. you can walk into a room, the patient with measles had already left like a couple hours before and you can get measles and it's going to be even easier to get uh- than covid. doctor peter chin-hong is urging parents to make sure their kids have measles vaccinations and adults to know if they didn't

get it when they were younger. today, hospital workers at seton hall medical center in daly city will begin a two day picket over concerns about their health care coverage. workers say the hospital's new health care plan cost them more, and they can't find doctors who actually take that insurance. the hospital's owner is refuting that claim, telling abc seven news the health care plan remains free for employees and their immediate families. more than 400 workers are expected to walk off the job, including nursing assistants, housekeepers and medical technicians. now, a live look this morning at the bay bridge toll plaza. there is a new warning about text messages trying to imitate fast track toll invoices. this has happened before. round of fake texts from fast track went out last month, according to the chronicle. another volley of texts have gone out in the past week. this time the fraudsters have fixed the spelling and grammatical errors in those texts, so they look a bit more convincing. the mtc says fast track will never text you demanding payment. if you respond by mistake, contact

your credit card issuer or your bank immediately. the commission believes an international fraud ring may be behind this. >> people aboard a whale watching boat in monterey bay got to see an epic show put on by a dolphin. video shows the animal doing backflips in the water. earlier this month, discovery whale watch says it's a pacific white sided dolphin. they're native to california and are known to be extremely playful. >> it's just so cool to watch. there goes. >> it's like it got midway up there and he's like, what do i do now? and then slam uh. >> so i've seen dolphins like, we're on the ferry going through. they weren't doing all this just like we're here. >> yeah, no major show, right? >> i don't think i've ever seen an actual show performance show. >> i have seen them just kind of jumping in the water, but not like a backflip like that. same. yeah >> go ahead. >> i guess i didn't get the right ticker this morning. >> we are drying out after the weekend rain where some areas

40s to the low 50s right now into the north bay we go where it's chilly 40, in calistoga. good morning, mill valley. coming in at 45 degrees right now. so a live look at san jose. we are dealing with mostly cloudy conditions this morning. however the weekend wet weather it is out of here. so we do have a dry day today. temperatures are on the cooler side for late march, upper 50s to the mid 60s. here's live doppler seven along with satellite as really quiet across california this morning. got that wet weather out of here. we picked up more than an inch of rain in some spots over the weekend. a weak ridge of high pressure is building in supplying us with some dry days. we'll have some clouds moving in from time to time. rain is back here on wednesday. that will be a level one light storm midweek. >> reggie drew, thank you. in the north bay, sonoma county animal services is asking the public for help as its shelters are at critical capacity. an influx of new animals has overwhelmed staff. it's a trend that's happening across the county and the state as a result

for the company. he says, quote, we will remain squarely focused on completing the work we've done together to return our company to stability after the extraordinary challenges of the past five years. with safety and quality at the forefront of everything that we do, new developments the faa is taking another closer look at united airlines after a series of issues with its fleet of passenger jets, bloomberg reports. the regulator is considering restricting the carrier from adding new routes it might also block united from using its newly delivered planes . the agency has reportedly suspended the company's ability to approve and promote its pilots. united has told workers to expect increased faa presence in day to day operations. >> oakland's only in-n-out restaurant is no more. it shut down overnight due to concerns of rising crime in the area. abc seven news reporter lena howland is here. and lena, the closure comes as the city is getting ready to welcome reggie. >> that's right. as in-n-out joins a growing list of restaurants leaving the city

over rising crime, oakland mayor shang tao just announced on friday that she has tapped former lubbock, texas police chief floyd mitchell for the job. the mayor's office says that mitchell has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement, and is expected to begin leading opd in early may, marking more than a year for the city of oakland without a top cop, tao says. chief mitchell. chief chief mitchell strategy rather of strong officer community engagement, vaulted him to the top of the list on in-n-out's final full day of business in oakland, city officials told us they hope the incoming police chief can stop other businesses from packing up and leaving town. this restaurant first opened in 2005, but ongoing crime on the property and in the neighborhood left the burger chain, making the tough call to close over safety concerns. >> a lot of people who aren't from here, they i feel like they do feel a little bit more unsafe because they know that they can break your window. the robbery around here is like really bad.

teams killed the animal after attack, two brothers leaving one of them dead. the brothers were searching for shed deer antlers near georgetown, about 50 miles northeast of sacramento in the sierra foothills. a 21 year old was found dead with a mountain lion nearby and 30 minutes after his brother called 911. officials say this is the first deadly mountain lion attack in northern california. in 20 years. residents say it is common to see the animals in the area they used to be hunted back in. >> when i was a kid up here, we'd go hunting and they banned the hunting on them and we were over populated. yeah, the sightings nonstop up here. now, see him in packs 2 or 3. and that was that. wasn't that wasn't common. >> deputies say the 18 year old, who survived, underwent several surgeries and is expected to make a full recovery. >> another scary crash this weekend at a bus stop in san francisco this one happened just before five saturday at the stop at fulton street and park

presidio boulevard, which is right across the street from golden gate park. coincidentally, the car ended up on top of a yield of pedestrian sign. one man was hurt. he is expected to be okay and the driver is facing ■several citations. this crash happened just a week after a driver plowed through a bus stop in san francisco's west portal neighborhood, killing a family of four. a couple and their two young children were waiting to go to the zoo when police say a 78 year-old driver hit them. the children were two years old and three months old. the driver is not in police custody at this point, and the da's office has not formally charged her, so we are not naming her at this point. >> we're learning new details about a deadly police shooting in sunnyvale. police went to a mobile home park on vienna drive on saturday fo reports of a man with a knife. they say the m was in a roadway and ignored orders to put the knife down. officers claim they shot him of the officers. he later diede

at a hospital. the department and the state district attorney's office now investigating. >> overnight, four men accused in a deadly terror attack in moscow appeared in a russian court. the suspects faced terrorism charges on the same day as the russian people had a national day of mourning. isis has taken responsibility for this attack. russian president vladimir putin claims without evidence, that the men were headed to ukraine in an attempt to cross the border. abc's rachel scott talked one on one with vice president kamala harris about putin's claims. >> does the us have any evidence to back that up? >> no, there is no whatsoever any evidence. and in fact, what we know to be the case is that isis k is actually by all accounts, responsible for what happened. >> state department officials say the us shared information of a possible attack with russia. the russian ambassador to the us has denied anything being shared . >> now, an abc news exclusive interview. the parents of

american journalist evan gershkovitch are reflecting on his last year spent in a moscow jail. they tell chief anchor george stephanopoulos they are optimistic he'll be released. >> what did you think when you heard president putin discuss the possibility of a trade forever? >> we were happy that, both governments have, expressed willingness to negotiate. >> the 32 year old wall street journal reporter was arrested one year ago this week. he's accused by the fsb security service of trying to obtain defense secrets. he, the us government and the journal have all denied that. you can watch the full interview on good morning america at seven. right after abc seven mornings. >> happening today, the united nations security council is set to vote on a resolution that demands a humanitarian ceasefire in gaza during ramadan. the vote was originally set for this weekend, but it was delayed until today. this resolution calls for the un conditional

release of all hostages, and it is backed by china and russia. last week, the us had a resolution vetoed by both countries. ambassadors criticized that resolution's language, saying it was too ambiguous and it didn't reflect a direct demand to end fighting in gaza. >> hundreds of protesters filled downtown san francisco, calling for an end to israel's military campaign in gaza. the rally started at the foot of market street, calling on israel for a cease fire and for the american government to end support of the ongoing military campaign in gaza. demonstrators say they are worried about the possibility of israeli troops entering the southern city of rafah, which is holding nearly a million and a half refugees. >> it is our duty to put pressure continuously on the us government to stop arming israel and the siege on gaza. >> on abc's this week, vice president kamala harris called an israel invasion of rafah a major mistake. if it happens. harris kept open the possibility of us consequences if israel
