else's ticket. federal authorities are now launching an investigation, and it's not the first time this airport has been in the spotlight over security. >> this morning, the fbi is investigating how a man was able to board a delta flight in utah, allegedly without a ticket. authorities say 26 year old wycliffe lazard took photos of boarding passes on passengers phones at the airport in salt lake city, then used an image to gain access to the plane. flight attendants just before takeoff realized he did not have a valid ticket. they are on the taxiway found is closed. the incident comes less than three months after another security breach at the same airport in january. a man whose family says had mental health issues was able to run onto the tarmac and jumped into the engine of a plane, later dying. >> the air blades were circulating when officers arrived on scene. >> video show him trying to open a door with only a maintenance worker nearby. he eventually

found an emergency exit, gaining access to the tarmac. >> there wasn't anybody on surveillance video or there wasn't anybody with responsibility for security in the hallways that saw him. after he made several attempts to get out of doors that were protected by pad keys. that's that's disturbing. >> in that case, the airport defended its security, saying some emergency doors need to stay unlocked in case of a fire. as for this latest breach, security officials not yet commenting, abc news has learned flores ard was booked on two standby flights that were full, so he tried getting on that delta flight, telling authorities he was just trying to get home. he is now charged with stowing away on an aircraft, and delta says it is cooperating with the investigation and breaking overnight. >> we're hearing from the americans just evacuated from haiti. as the crisis there escalates, officials warn the country could run out of food in a matter of weeks, and more than 1000 americans are still there. abc's perry russom has the new details this morning. perry. good morning. andrew good

morning to you. >> deadly gang violence has now spread to the suburbs of haiti's capital. overnight, more americans fleeing the country arrived back in florida to tell us their stories. >> the very difficult part was getting around and making it to the airport. >> felipe almond, an american citizen, describes his perilous journey from haiti back to central florida, traveling with several children through closed off roads and highways as armed gangs terrorized haiti. experts warn of a looming humanitarian crisis with ports closed, they say food could run out in just two weeks. the u.s. government, using helicopters and chartered planes to evacuate citizens. one american scheduled to get airlifted out today, speaking with abc news overnight, asking us not to show his face, fearing gang violence. >> but wherever you are today, here in port au prince, you can hear the gunshots and you can hear them like day and night. the violence now rattling the once peaceful suburbs of port au prince with bodies in the streets, desperate haitians under fire from gangs, are

phone and that gave authorities their exact location. they were described as wet, cold and dehydrated, but otherwise okay. an escaped prisoner in idaho and the man accused of helping him escape are the subjects of a widening manhunt. white supremacist gang member skylar meade is serving a 20 year sentence, but after being treated at a boise hospital, a man opened fire on officers taking mead back to prison. during the chaos, the two men got away in a gray honda. >> this was a coordinated attack. ambush on the department of corrections officers and certainly a planned endeavor to free him from custody. >> three officers were wounded in the chaos. >> we turn now to a new warning about the danger of tiktok. one senator, after a national security briefing yesterday, compared the social media platform to a gun aimed at americans. here's abc's andrea fujii. >> the bill is passed this morning, one week after the house approved a bill that could potentially ban tiktok in the u.s.

>> senators from both sides of the aisle have a stark new warning about the app. >> tiktok is a grave national security threat to americans. tiktok is a gun aimed at americans, heads. >> senators yesterday got a classified briefing about how tiktok, owned by chinese company bytedance, uses the information it gathers against americans. one concern that the app could be used by china to influence the upcoming presidential election. >> i will say very emphatically, the american people need and deserve to hear what we've just been told because they would be deeply frightened by dance. >> denies sharing americans data with the chinese government. tiktok has urged its 170 million users in the u.s. to contact their lawmakers to oppose the bill passed by the house. some of that lobbying now reportedly getting violent. okay, listen, if you ban tiktok, i will find you and shoot you. that's a voicemail. north carolina senator thom tillis says his

office received to have tiktok tell these kids to do that doesn't actually help their case. >> it hurts their case. >> the bill passed by the house would force bytedance to sell the app or face a ban in the u.s. still no word if the senate will take up that bill, but there appears to be growing support for some sort of action later this spring. >> the content on tiktok in china is pushing things like math and science and education and hard work and discipline. and here in the united states, the chinese communist party is pushing things to our kids like self-harm and suicide. >> senators are now considering holding a public hearing on the tiktok bill. congress returns from spring break, april 8th. rhiannon andrew. >> andria. thank you. wikileaks founder julian assange is reportedly in talks with the justice department for a possible plea deal as he fights extradition from the u.k, sources tell the wall street journal. the doj is considering allowing assange to plead guilty to a reduced charge of mishandling classified documents. assange was indicted

for publishing confidential documents about the u.s. military in 2010. >> more children in the u.s. are being diagnosed with adhd. a new study finds cases are up 2.5% since 2019. what's unclear is whether there are more actual cases or if increased awareness led to more previously undiagnosed cases being uncovered. >> turning now to the weather, windy conditions in minnesota sent a hot air balloon crashing to the ground. four people were on board when that balloon was blown into a power line. luckily, no one was seriously injured. the crash sparked a small brush fire, but that was quickly put out. >> and now the upper midwest is getting ready for snow. let's check your thursday forecast >> good morning. it is a cold march start to the day. in fact, we have accuweather realfeel values in the teens if not single digits. so you do want to bundle up, but there's a new swath of snow on the move across the northern plains into the upper midwest. and we're going to be talking about snow piling

truck in south africa, lifting the vehicle several feet into the air before letting it drop. passengers said they were terrified while hiding between the seats. eventually the angry elephant simply lost interest. >> the elephant was obviously a male, and he was challenging that vehicle. he's incredibly intelligent animals, but but males like that, they're often referred to as punks because they they can show a little bit of temper. they can show a little bit of attitude. but at the end of the day, sometimes it's more bark than bite. >> abc news has not confirmed details of what led up to the incident, but no one was injured back in this country, a new push to go electric. >> the biden administration is rolling out new auto emission standards, igniting debate about the future of the american car industry. this morning, the biden administration is pumping the brakes on new vehicle emission standards, giving automakers more time to ramp up their production of electric cars. >> today marks a historic win for public health for the environment and for the future of our country.

>> changes appear aimed at addressing industry opposition along with public reluctance to embrace the technology. the new emission standards will be phased in more slowly than originally proposed, but they eventually get close to the same goal set out by the epa to have electric cars make up 56% of sales by the year 2032. last year, they made up less than 8% and another change from the proposal, the epa will now include a range of vehicles to reach its emission goals, including plug in and hybrid vehicles. >> we gave the automobile industry more flexibility to achieve those environmental goals. >> it's a delicate balancing act for biden. the road to his reelection goes through michigan. the united auto workers, which has endorsed biden, called the revised proposal a more feasible emissions rule that protects workers. the epa emphasized there's absolutely no mandate to adopt electric vehicles, but the wall street journal's editorial board writing, make no mistake, this is a coerced phase out of gas powered cars. former president trump has campaigned against the new rules. >> crooked joe has ordered a hit

there has been rampant speculation about kate's health since her abdominal surgery in january, now to a developing scandal involving one of the biggest athletes in pro sports. >> it involves his friend and big money in alleged gambling debts. >> two two rips one and he gets on top of it. >> this morning, baseball superstar shohei ohtani, fresh off signing his historic $700 million contract last year, is taking a major hit. >> we have some breaking news here on sportscenter. shohei ohtani's interpreter was fired today after questions were raised over $4.5 million in wire transfers sent from ohtani's bank account to a bookmaking operation. >> the dodgers yesterday fired ohtani's longtime friend and interpreter, ippei mizuhara, after he allegedly stole more than $4 million from ohtani to pay off gambling debts. mizuhara allegedly placed wagers with an illegal sportsbook in california. espn reviewed bank information it says shows ohtani's name on two $500,000 payments made last year. >> he said that ohtani had no

knowledge of his gaming debts and had not paid the money through the wire transfers. >> a spokesman for ohtani says the baseball star has been the victim of a massive theft, and we are turning the matter over to the authorities. the controversy dominating sports media you have you have to look into what is he placing bets for ohtani, and how did he get access to ohtani's millions hours before he was fired? mizuhara was talking to ohtani during the dodgers game in seoul, south korea, adding to ohtani's difficult day a bomb threat. police responding with bomb sniffing dogs after a threat made against the japanese superstar. no devices were found. ohtani, seemingly unbothered, celebrate his first official hit as a dodger in the league's first ever regular season game, played in south korea, and shohei ohtani's first hit of 2024. fans going wild for ohtani tickets selling out in less than one hour. back to those gambling accusations that sportsbook in california is currently under federal investigation. no comment yet from ohtani himself. >> coming up, the luxury store
