ntsb confirms witness statements that the plane was in distress immediately after takeoff from half moon bay airport. one witness reporting that the engine of the experimental amateur built aircraft cut out, then banked toward the shoreline. the bodies of three of the four people in the plane have been recovered. an emotional day in los angeles as the lakers unveiled a new statue commemorating the life of kobe bryant. a ceremony is underway right now. in fact, at crypto.com arena, otherwise known as the house that kobe built. that's where we find abc seven news reporter kurt sandoval from our sister station in l.a. he was there for today's
4:30 pm
really moving events. kurt >> dan and kirsten. it really was moving. there's 11 statues outside what is known as star plaza at what used to be staples center. now crypto.com arena, the 12th. quite an emotional day because it is of the late kobe bryant, who was lost nearly four years ago to the day with gianna, his daughter and seven others in a horrific helicopter crash. that being said, they just unveiled the statue just minutes ago and take a look. he's wearing number eight. he of course wore that for ten years. he also wore number 24. and today is the eighth day of the 24th year of 2000. kobe helped this town win five nba championships. he was an 18 time all star and of the five people who spoke today, including derek fisher, his old teammate, his wife vanessa, probably the most profound was his old coach, phil jackson. i arranged a meeting between michael and kobe to give him a little impression of how
4:31 pm
to handle being in a restricted basketball system that relied on passing the ball to available teammates and wanting. to go one on one with his guy in front of you. phil also reminded us that kobe was all business, and when it came to, he went up to him one time and said, you want to be captain of this team? at some point, right? and kobe said, i should be captain now. and it was like his second year. but that's part of the legacy that is kobe bryant. it was quite an emotional day for a lot of people. what should be a brilliant day, but a very tough day as well. reporting for abc seven news i'm curt sandoval, dan and kirsten, back to you. >> all right kurt, thanks so much. yeah, kobe was a competitor all the way. what a legacy. thank you. >> yeah, not that anyone was going to forget, but this really cements the memories and legacy. let's talk to larry about that. yeah. >> larry's back in las vegas live. larry >> uh. dan. thank you. i am
