have scattered showers, some downpours. winds will gust not nearly as high as sunday's storm, but still breezy from time to time. 15 to 35mph and cold air is moving in here later on today, which means you could see a dusting of snow. highest peaks like mount hamilton. so here's future weather. 1030 here we go. showers and downpours moving through. get ready for just a windy and chilly afternoon. by 4 p.m, temperatures barely hitting about 50 degrees. we'll take a closer look at the rain and a beautiful weekend coming up in about eight minutes. let's check in with gloria and see how traffic is going. >> yeah, you know, right now we have a mass transit update for you. ace has up to a 30 minute delay. this is on ace one. and this is because of freight train traffic. so we'll keep monitoring this for you throughout the morning. but again up to a 30 minute delay. thanks so much gloria. >> it's been a long few days and nights for a lot of people in the bay area. the power is starting to return to many parts of the region. we're doing much

better today. here's a look at p-g-and-e's outage map. you can see that there are still people in the dark, but it is steadily improving. we're seeing a lot more green and yellow instead of the orange and red, green and yellow means fewer outages. red means a lot more. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in san jose, where some of the lights have come back on in just the past couple of hours. that's great to hear, lena. >> yeah, it's really good news for folks that live out here in san jose, here at the san jose shopping center. the lights just came back on really within the past hour after they first lost power back on sunday. now, according to p-g-and-e's, as of about 10:00 last night, there were still more than 40,000 customers across the bay area without power. this outage has been affecting everyone from restaurants and families, and now those with specialized needs . one woman we talked to says her husband is currently on the third floor of a skilled nursing and assisted living center in saratoga. she says the facility has been running on an emergency generator since sunday. >> when we're able bodied, we

can do it. they're not able bodied, you know, and the staff can only do so much. this is the kind of power outage that needs to be covered. this is the kind of situation that needs to be covered. >> meanwhile, people whose homes were damaged in sunday's storm are dealing with a new insurance reality. the homeowner of this home in unincorporated scotts valley had a massive redwood tree fall on it and says after getting the runaround from a utility company, a law enforcement and his insurance company, he says his insurance will cover the removal of this tree for an estimated $34,000. now, although the lights have come back on here in this san jose shopping center, p-g-and-e's tells us there are still more than 7000 customers here in the south bay without power. this morning. live in san jose. lena howland abc seven news. >> thanks so much, lena. and families on the peninsula are also feeling the frustration from power outages. abc seven drove to a local resource center

in half moon bay, staying open to help people get powered up. one family, who lives on the outskirts of the city, has been without electricity since sunday. they say they appreciate p-g-and-e's hard work, but outages during weather events are becoming a constant worry. >> it's really frustrating to feel like we're forgotten about, frankly, being in a more rural setting and, you know, it's just as hard for anyone to go day and day. we without power p-g-and-e's estimates their power will be back on sometime this afternoon, but the couple says they're not counting on it. >> they say they also deal with thick mud and heavily damaged roads near their mountainside. community and there are still some local parks, schools and golf courses staying closed due to the outages and storm damage. we have all of that in one place. abc seven news.com or your abc seven news, bay area app. >> imagine you're dealing with a power outage. you check into a local hotel and then your car gets bit more than 20 cars got broken into in the parking lot

of the larkspur landing hotel in south san francisco. in one case, the thieves stole a woman's grandmother's ashes from the center console. well, that victim and another have a message for the thieves and the lawmakers who have the power to make change. >> if you have my wife's stuff, if you have deceased ashes, how low of you i wish nothing but karma. >> do something to protect the citizens that you are elected to protect. this has got to come to a stop across the bay. >> hyatt house in emeryville had nearly 20 break-ins early saturday morning we saw a number of signs indicating that guests need to be careful while governor newsom is calling on the chp to help stop violent crime in the east bay, oakland mayor shengtao says it could happen as soon as a week from now. more than 120 chp officers will help with traffic stops, recovering stolen vehicles and

patrolling the hegenberger corridor corridor. the corridor, excuse me. near oakland's airport, they have recently been headlines about what's happening there because in-n-out and denny's closed, and abc seven news insider phil matier tells us what this really means. >> chp is not bound by oakland rules, and that's a quiet little unspoken deal here. when they're on the ground with oakland cops, they can do things that oakland cops can't do. >> for example, chasing suspects, oakland police aren't allowed to chase suspects in order to prevent dangerous situations in neighborhoods unless it's an extremely violent crime. in 2023, statistics show violent crimes in oakland increased more than 20. robberies up nearly 40, car thefts up 45. >> a judge is throwing out sentence enhancements for four men accused of murder. it follows the antioch police racist texting scandal. the contra costa county judge says officers violated the california racial justice act. it, quote,

prohibits the state from seeking a criminal conviction or sentence on the basis of race, ethnicity or national origin. the four defendants are facing murder charges in a possible gang related shooting in 2021, along with striking all special circumstance sources, which can lead to a life sentence without the possibility of parole. the judge will also allow these defendants to impeach the officers or question the credibility of their testimony or evidence based on the racist texts, and that is crucial, because what what it acknowledges is that the investigation itself has been compromised and the trial is set for march 4th, a waymo driverless car reportedly hit a cyclist at an intersection in san francisco. >> according to our media partners at sf standard. it happened yesterday near 17th and mississippi. waymo says the cyclist was blocked by a truck that had entered the

intersection. the waymo vehicle waited their turn but wasn't able to see the cyclist. once the cyclist became visible, waymo says the car braked but was not able to stop in time. the cyclist had minor injuries. that waymo incident happened the same day crews met with the california public utilities commission about the october incident in san francisco. thatrillionesulted in all of their cars being pulled off the road, you may remember a cruise robotaxi dragged a woman in san francisco about 20ft after she was hit by another car during yesterday's meeting, cpuc officials were able to ask questions about the incident and cruz's response, which has been criticized. cruz is working to have its operating permits restored and has offered to pay a $75,000 fine to settle with the state no decision was made yesterday. >> another curve ball in the a's plan to make the move to las vegas. the mayor of sin city now saying the team should stay in oakland and las vegas. mayor carolyn goodman says the a's plan for a stadium at the tropicana site in sin city

bolts from that door. plug that blew out in mid-air during an alaska airlines flight last month in a report released yesterday, inspectors say the bolts would have prevented the door plug from moving upward during that flight, but apparently they were not reinstalled after work was done to repair a defect. >> going forward, we will have more boots on the ground, closely scrutinizing and monitoring production and manufacture activities. >> the ntsb report also found that before last month's mid-flight door plug incident that jet had flown nearly 150 flights without the bolts. >> developing news taylor swift's legal team is threatening action against a florida college student for tracking her private plane glories at the live desk. taylor swift isn't the only celebrity the student is tracking. >> yeah, that's right, reggie, you may have heard of jack sweeney before. he's well known for tracking the private planes of people like elon musk, mark

zuckerberg, and other celebrities posting the locations of their private jets in real time on social media. and now taylor swift's legal team has sent him a cease and desist letter, claiming it is putting her safety at risk. they say that posting the information provides stalkers with a roadmap to carry out their plans to physically harm her. swift has repeatedly dealt with stalkers just a few weeks ago, a man was arrested for a third time after lurking outside of her new york home. jack sweeney has fired back in response to the letter. in a statement to abc news, he says you should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked. whether or not i do it as after all, it is public information. he is the same college student that we've reported about before who rejected a $5,000 offer from elon musk to stop tracking his private jet online, the information being shared is of heightened interest for some because swift is expected to travel from a concert in japan to las vegas this weekend, arriving just in time for the

seven this morning. we are tracking our next storm. it is a quick mover, but it will bring downpours and some gusty winds. not as windy as sunday, but still winds could gust close to 35mph at times. scattered showers and downpours. and on our highest peaks, we could see some snow. that's just an indication of the cold air moving in here. so this morning we'll see those showers. first in the north bay around 8 a.m. and then you can see the rest of the region probably closer to 10 a.m. this morning. we have those showers and downpours moving through. and there you can see future weather. mount hamilton likely seeing some snow later on this afternoon. rainfall totals. we're not expecting a lot of rainfall, less than a quarter of an inch with this system, but the winds are going to pick up. so you see this morning, they're not too bad. and then you get into the afternoon we see those winds are pretty active gusting close to 30mph at times. so today we'll have those showers on and off. it is a chilly day. temperatures only in the low to mid 50s. a frosted advisory will kick in overnight tonight in the north bay valleys. we're dropping close to freezing starting on thursday. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. get ready for those showers today. a frosty morning tomorrow and then we enjoy a dry pattern

young. that was almost 30 years ago. abc seven news reporter ryan curry spoke with purdy's high school coach and former teachers at perry high school in gilbert, arizona, who say purdy is ready for this moment. >> a cowboy hat and a loose fitting tie. it was a party that day in miss canberra's english class after they finished reading the great gatsby. brock purdy smile says it all. that is 100% authentically who he has been since he was young. >> um, there are no airs about him that is just who he is. >> authentic. never afraid to just be who he is and live in the moment that that is how his teachers at perry high school remember him. >> we had to do a debate between karl marx and adam smith and one of the things i was like, well, if you're going to come up here, you have to have an accent. you have to either have a scottish or a german accent. and he just killed it like he he put himself out there. and that was like on the second week of school being who he is not just how he acted in the classroom, but also on the football field.

>> he was just an everyday guy on campus. you wouldn't know he's a superstar athlete. his high school coach, preston jones, says any play he would draw on a whiteboard, brock would be able to execute. he's a servant leader. i mean, he's there for his teammates. he's there for his family. he's there for his friends and that's that's who he is. and uh, it's hard not to get behind a guy that's like that. >> being a leader is the reason brock went on to lead perry high school to runners up in the state championship, while also winning arizona high school player of the year in 2017. but it wasn't just his footballing skills. his teachers say his humility and focus is why they knew he would be destined for success. >> sometimes kids will complain like, oh, i got to wash the dishes. what ever had to get done? he would just do it. no complaining. you know, just whatever help the class, whatever helped his team. like he did it in his second year in the league, brock has a chance to help the forty-niners win their first super bowl in 29 years. >> to celebrate the game, it's brock purdy spirit week at

more than 60mph, according to p-g-and-e's, took down many large trees across the area and people whose homes were damaged in sunday's storm are dealing with a new insurance reality. the homeowner of this unincorporated scotts valley home had a massive redwood tree fall on it, he says. after getting the runaround from a utility company, law enforcement and his insurance company, he says his insurance will help cover the removal of the tree for an estimated $34,000. >> i think that this is going to sound scary, but i think consumers need to brace for large rate increases for home insurance. i don't think companies are going to get back in the market until they can get 50 to 75% rate increases in the preferred markets. >> this as the state continues to see an exodus of big and small insurance companies. some companies have cited wildfire risk, inflation and construction costs, while other agents say price controls within the state system makes it difficult for insurance companies to increase

a level one for showers and downpours. some gusty winds in the afternoon and even some snow on our highest peaks like mount hamilton. let's time it all out for you. future weather showing you as we get into the afternoon or the morning. sorry, 8 a.m. you'll see those showers in the north bay first and then probably closer to 10:11 a.m. we see those showers moving through the heart of the region, some heavier downpours developing, but it's a fast moving system by about 1 p.m, the heaviestrillionain is moving out, but there you can see around mount hamilton the pink, the white indicating the dusting of snow is very possible. not a lot of rainfall. we're not expecting issues when it comes to water, but still we'll see up to about a half of an inch of rain in some spots. part of the santa cruz mountains could get closer to an inch of rain. we'll keep our eyes on that, but it is a fast moving storm throughout today. it's also a chilly storm. temperatures. look at this. we're only going into the low and mid 50s. some areas like lakeport, ukiah, pretty much staying in the 40s for daytime highs. we have a winter weather advisory in effect for the sierra. about 6 to 12in of snow coming. snow levels right around
