thank you. we turn to the suspected serial killer under arrest, texas man suspected of murder ellerslie confessing to more than one. police that he told them he was ready to kill again. tonight investing it acknowledging they don't know how many people he might killed. abc's mireya villarreal in texas for us to >> reporter: tonight suspected serial killer raul meza back in jail after police in texas say he confessed to twd admitted he was planning to strike again. >> i will let you know mr. meza said he was ready and prepared to kill again and he was looking forward to it. >> returns to rail mr. junior at that address. >> reporter: police watching an urging manhunt for meza after his roommate, ed role jesse fraga was fatally stabbed in his home north of austin and meza was seen afterward driving jesse fraga's truck. investigators say while meza was on the run he called detectives

detailing how he murdered jesse fraga and implicated how he implicated himself in the woman strangled to death several years prior. >> the death of corey lofted. >> reporter: u.s. marshals apprehended meza at a bus stop. they say he had a bag with zip ties, flashlight, gun and multiple rounds inside. the 62 rolled already a convicted murderer. in 1982, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing third-grader kendra paige. his release after serving 11 years for good behavior. >> we don't want him in our neighborhood! >> reporter: sparking protests in austin at the time. >> we don't know home to people he killed or would have killed so here's a serial killer that justice was not served. >> reporter: david, investigators say these two latest cases may not be wary of historians. they confirmed they are looking at between eight and ten cold cases in this area alone that

meza could be responsible for and they date all the way back to 1996. david. >> david: mireya villarreal in texas for us. thank you. in the northeast concerns over the air quality because of smoke from wildfires in nova scotia, canada. hayes obscuring the skyline of philadelphia. take a look at that. the national weather service tonight has declared a "code orange alert." let's get right to senior meteorologist rob marciano tracking this and the system off florida but let's start with the air quality because this is significant. >> rob: the code orange means it doesn't just smell like campfire. it's unhealthy especially for sensitive groups. got several states under this alert. connecticut new jersey's parts of lord new york pennsylvania on the one in delaware is through tomorrow. the same high-pressure that brought beautiful weather to the northeast. the orange beginning to diffuse. the system in the gulf of mexico, this is a disturbance that could become tropical. there's a flood watch up through friday regardless of its to element it will bring rounds of

heavy rain for most the peninsula tomorrow. as you know, the first tape hurricane season. david. >> rob marciano with us. thank you, rob has always been next here tonight a south killing a convenience store owners facing a murder charge for little juliet shooting a 14-year-old boy he accused of shoplifting. the boy was shot in the back as he ran away. police did find a gun near the teen. what we've learned tonight about that store owner before. here is steve osunsami. >> this 14-year-old boy's dead end tonight this gas station owner is accused of murdering hy he suspected the teenager was trying to steal from his tour. >> looked like it might be a juvenile. >> okay. >> the 58-year-old owns the shell gas station in columbia, south carolina, that's covered in graffiti from protesters. investigators say 14-year-old cyrus carmack belton was at a cooler holding four bottles of water the police that he put back down when the store owner accused him of stealing. >> this has had lots of

shoplifting incidents. he did not shoplift anything can we have no evidence he stole anything. >> a struggle in the store spilled on the street and the teenager ran away. police say that store owner shot the child in the back. police people are outraged near and far paid even the county coroner says she is heartbroken. >> i will tell you all i have a son who is that age. >> reporter: police underlined that they did find a gun near the boy's body and that it belong to the teenager. there is stand your ground law insults going to authorities say doesn't help the store owner in this case because the teenager was killed as he was running away. investigators say that this same store owner has shot bullets and people in his tour before and one case where no one was hit, second case the police ruled it was self-defense. he's charged with murder. police say the child had a gun. >> david: steve osunsami. to deprive a building collapse in iowa.

they have turned to drones to search the building in davenport. five people are still on the kind of far, to believe to be inside. the rest of the building teetering and they say at risk of collapse. abc's alex perez on the scene in iowa again tonight. >> reporter: tonight authorities in davenport, iowa, using drones to search for the missing inside that collapsed apartment building. it's an agonizing wait for the family of ryan hitchcock and branded coven who authorities they are likely somewhere insid. corbin's son wants search teams to move faster. >> i don't feel like it's that hard. go in there look for people that's in there. go in there and look. >> reporter: how do you hold on to hope with all this destruction? >> for me personally, that lady heard. i keep having whole. >> reporter: officials have not provided a search timeline and say each time that crews enter the building it grows weaker and could collapse at any moment. residents here say there was a

history of plumbing and sewage leaks. >> we have problems with water damage, when you contact people who own the building, they don't do anything. >> reporter: required repair work was underway in the building collapse. there are new questions about why engineers hired by the building told city officials it was still safe for residents. david, i spoke with the property manager today and they would only tell me they are praying for the families and working on refunding deposits to the tenants. as for the property owner, he has been fined $300 so far and is due in court june 9. david greets you and keep asking those questions for all those people that live there, alex, thank you. now to the war in ukraine. new images from kyiv of missile debris raining down on a busy roadway in the capital. these images, as ukraine stepped up their attacks inside russia. tonight the russian refinery set ablaze. tom soufi burridge in ukraine again tonight. >> reporter: tonight dramatic dashcam video, missile debris crashing into a crowded highway in the ukrainian capital.
