of you at home. we do begin with an urgent search after the collapse of a building in davenport, iowa. they believe at least two of them are still missing inside. they were able to pull a woman out 24 hours after the collapse. community members demanding they keep searching. first responders helping residents out. k-9 units helping to look for any potential survivors. then the discovery more than 24 hours after the building came down, the woman appearing at a fourth floor window. they are is getting her out. this evening, what they might do next in the search potentially turning to drones. alex perez leading us off on the scene in iowa for us tonight. >> tonight in davenport, iowa, they are growing calls for authorities to keep searching as the collapsed apartment building for residents who are still missing. >> the freaking building just

collapsed. >> less than 24 hours after the building crumbled to the ground and rescues were called off after thermal imaging found no signs of life. but tonight, the city putting plans to demolish the building on hold. an emotional press conference. officials now acknowledging five residents are unaccounted for, including ryan hitchcock and brandon coven. they believe are still in the building. >> we are very sympathetic. to the possibility is that there are two people, that they were two people still left. >> it comes hours after lisa brooks was finally able to reach her phone to call for help eared rescuers working up against an unsteady building to get her to safety. >> i am just so afraid that i am going to die and not see my kids. my grandkids.

>> brandon colvin's crews to keep searching. >> the cause of the collapses now under investigation, and the building had a history of complaints. last week the section of the exterior wall was being repai repaired. >> authorities say right now they are focusing on finding a safe way to conduct another search of the building, considering all options, including using drones. now several animals were rescued during a partial search this afternoon. but they were no signs of human activity during that search. david. >> david: you can see it is a really precarious situation. now to the mass shooting at a florida beach. some ranting right into the water. this camera at hollywood beach capturing the moment gunshots rang out. nine people were shot and

wounded, including a 1-year-old child. one of at least 17 shootings over memorial day weekend. we warn you, this is disturbing. >> tonight the urgent manhunt for the con man who opened fire among a crowded florida beach, sending residents running into errors. five adults and four children shot. the youngest, just 1-year-old appeared police releasing dramatic calls to 911. >> there are people that just got shot on hollywood beach. >> there's a bunch of little kids outside. >> authorities now asking for the communities help to identify these three people they believe are involved in the shooting. >> when you do something like this in broad daylight, you will be identified. you will be caught and brought to justice. >> they were cameras catching the moment gunfire erupted monday night if your policing after an altercation between two

groups. >> i hear about six, seven shots. everybody starts running. >> first responders and beachgoers treating the wounded. she had to duck for cover. >> the shooting happens feet away from you. how scary was that? >> extremely scary. i was looking forward to being here with my own child, and now i have to question even coming here on the holidays. >> police are still searching for three more. tonight, the staggering death toll nationwide. 175 people shot and killed this holiday weekend. david. >> david: that's just unbelievable. victor, thank you. president biden and speaker mccarthy and negotiators hammering out the details to avoid a potentially catastrophic u.s. default. the deal must get through the house. do they have the votes? is rachel scott. >> now that president biden and speaker mccarthy have avoided

catastrophic default, the challenge, getting it through congress. tonight, fierce resistance from some of the most conservative house republicans, the freedom caucus. >> i want to be very clear. not one republican should vote for this deal. not one. >> $30 billion in covid relief, resend $20 billion in irs funding, and resume student loan repayments in august. conservative republicans say it does not go nearly far enough. >> you read the bill. where do you stand? >> it's terrible. >> you are a firm "no." >> absolutely. >> you said that republicans were outsmarted by democrats. >> 100%. >> some republicans saying mccarthy himself should go. the speaker brushing it off. >> republicans who say that republicans were outsmarted in this deal.

>> that's interesting. how? the largest cut in the history of congress. the biggest ability to pull money back. >> tonight, 25 house republicans say that they will vote against the bill which means mccarthy will need democratic votes to get it over the finish line. the house progressives were not sold. >> many are leaning towards "no" because the bill does contain taking some folks off of their food stamps. >> the president has been personally working the phones. senior administration officials will be here trying to address any last-minute concerns. the house is expected to vote tomorrow evening, and leaders are confident they have the votes. >> david: rachel scott tonig tonight. the pentagon has not released alarming new images. chinese fighter jet coming within feet of a u.s. reconnaissance plane. the pentagon calling this all "unnecessarily aggressive."

>> the u.s. has seen an alarming increase in confrontations with chinese aircraft. this, on camera. showing u.s. air force pilots watching the chinese fighter jet rapidly approach then roared past the u.s. reconnaissance plane within 400 feet of its nose, forcing it to bounce through the turbulence of the fighter jets wave. u.s. pacific command calling the chinese maneuver in international airspace "unnecessarily aggressive." senior defense official saying they do not believe these are rogue pilots acting independently but rather part of a wider pattern of aggressive intercepts in the region. >> david: martha with us now. there is also breaking news tonight coming in from north korea. a new launch? >> yes, david. they said they were going to launch a satellite, but the japanese government sent

warnings that north korea may have launched a test missile and urged people in okinawa to take shelter immediately. the u.s. embassy in japan repeated those warnings. in seoul, south korea, warnings were given over public address systems and phones, telling people to evacuate. but later said that was sent in error. no reports of damage or disruption. >> david: we will track it into the evening, thank you appeared for the first time it is believed, drones are now striking residential areas in moscow. one striking near one of vladimir putin's homes. we are in ukraine again. >> tonight, russia promising the toughest possible response after a wave of explosive drones hit a wealthy district of moscow. explosions only 3 miles from president putin's luxury residence. here are a drone clearly visible. they were saying they were eight in total.

forces. >> david: tom, thank you. meantime, late news today involving a member of the manson family. a california appeals court upholding the parole of leslie. how soon could she go free? >> tonight, california appeals court upholding the leslie van houten's parole. she was part of a crew that murdered in the sweltering summer of '69 for no reason other than charles manson ordered them to. it came just a day after the murder of a pregnant actress sharon tate. manson distanced himself from the murders in this interview. >> i never told anyone to do anything other than murder. >> and if they wanted to do murder -- go >> that's none of my business, woman. i am not a sunday school teach

teacher. >> inspired by the beatles song "helter-skelter." since then, leslie van houten had been granted parole five times, each rejected by a california governor. the latest refusal amounts to unsupported intuition that van houten might reoffend. >> looked deep inside herself, saw what got her there. she got a lot out of the rehabilitation programs. a lot of inmates who got released, that is the first step in turning the corner and moving forward. >> her attorney expects the attorney general to petition the state supreme court to block her appeal. still he says he expects her to be released even as early as this week as the court completes its review which means that leslie van houten could be out of prison for the first time in half of the century. >> david: thank you. this evening, leslie van houten founder elizabeth holmes is

reporting to prison in texas, sentenced to 11 years for defrauding investors. rebecca jarvis tonight on what life will now be like for holmes holmes. >> tonight, elizabeth holmes behind bars in this texas prison. the mother of two young children both under the age of two accompanied by her parents and partner, billy evans, hugging him read before surrendering at the women's mom security prison to begin her sentence. the 39-year-old facing a different way of life behind bars. she will swap her token black turtleneck for a khaki uniform. her first work assignment will be kitchen duty for $0.12 an hour, and any sense of privacy will be gone. she will live in tight quarters with other inmates. >> she's going to make her bed, go to her job, and she is going to repeat every day. >> the one-time billionaire
