this case first made national news nearly four years ago with the disappearance of her children, 7-year-oldd 16-year-old tylee ryan. they were found buried on the new husband's property. the grandfather reported the children missing. what he said after the verdict today. erielle reshef leads us off tonight. >> tonight, lori vallow daybell, the so-called dooms day cult mom, convicted of murdering her own two children and conspiring to kill her husband's ex-wife bringing an end to a chilling case that shocked the nation. >> lori vallow daybell lori vallow daybell guilty or not guilty of first degree verdict of tylee ryan, guilty. is she not guilty or guilty of first degree murder of joshua jackson vallow. answer guilty. >> jurors reached a jury after less than a day of deliberation. vallow daybell standing stoically as she's found guilty of killing 16-year-old tylee and

corps veteran inanuf after turning himself after 8:00 a.m. this morning. >> he did so voluntarily with the dignity that's characteristic of his history of service to this grateful nation. >> prosecutors say they reviewed the disturbing video showing penny choking neely at least three minutes on a subway train on may 1st. say at the point the defendant releases his arm from mr. neely's neck, mr. neely appears to be unconscious. penny was initially questioned and released without charges, setting off days of protests in the city calling for his arrest. the incident highlighting issues of balancing caring for the vulnerable with concerns about public safety. neely was known for impersonating michael jackson on the subway. he also suffered from mental illness, homelessness, was known to outreach workers as someone in dire need of help. and while police say neely

acted aggressively towards rider on the subway that day, sources tell abc news that penny was not specifically threatened by neely. attorneys for neely's family criticizing the decision to charge penny with manslaughter and not murder. >> the consequences of manslaughter is 5 to 15 years. ask yourself, is that enough? is that enough for someone who choked somebody out on the train and took their life? 5 to 15 years? >> daniel penny didn't enter a plea to one count of second degree manslaughter. he is free tonight on a $100,000 bond. his lawyers say today's arraignment is the first step in a long process to get to the truth. at the end of that process, they say they fully expect him to be exonerated of all charges. next hearing date is set for july 17th. david? >> stephanie ramos, thank you. as i mentioned, we are tracking tornado warnings and watches upw. s ey use of a particularly dangerous

situation in the evening hours ahead. several states tonight in the path of this. more than two dozen tornadoes reported in the past 24 hours. a short time ago, this one touched down in spalding, nebraska. another ripping the roof of a home in cole, oklahoma. half this home destroyed in noble, oklahoma. the family survived hiding in a closet. tonight, that region bracing for more with this whole system on the move. get to senior meteorologist rob marciano near dallas for us. hey, rob. >> the threat is spread from south texas to south dakota with nebraska getting the brunt of it. here's the radar. it is lit up. several reported tornadoes already. you see storms arching around the low, link on, omaha. watch out the next couple hours. severe thunderstorm watches are posted. we have flash flood watches as well into the weekend with ten inches of rain potentially along the border. this while a heat wave builds in the west, hit 100 in fresno. could be one of the
