charged with second degree murder, among other charges. tonight. tyree nichols. grieving parents are calling for peaceful protests. the five officers now facing charges were members of a special street crimes unit called scorpion. some arriving that night in unmarked cars, and there are still troubling questions about why tyree nichols was pulled over in the first place, police chief c. j davis saying so far they have found no evidence to back. the officers claim that nichols was driving recklessly. nichols parents tonight asking for prayers for their son and their peace withbc ste ramosor adg us off tonight from memphis. tonight the city of memphis and communities across america on edge, bracing for the release of the police body cam footage in the tyree nichols case expected to show the brutal beating of the 29 year old unarmed father after a traffic stop just yards from his home. nichols dying in the hospital three days later. outreach brewing over the roles,

prosecutors say five members police officers played in the death all now fired. those five officers off facing felony criminal charges, including second degree murder and aggravated kidnapping and assault today, tyree nichols, his family and their attorneys coming before cameras, speaking just hours before the footage is set to be released by police doesn't matter if the officer is a black officer, hispanic officer and a white officer. it is the culture that allows them to think they can do this to tyree attorney ben crump, acknowledging the memphis police department swift action in firing the officers, calling it a blueprint for cases like these going forward when we look at how these five black officers. who were caught on camera committing a crime. and when we look at how fast. chief and the police department.

partially. warm family's attorneys arguing there were police misconduct by that unit. but that's some claims were ignored, suggesting this tragedy might have been prevented on g m a today. memphis police chief questioning the accusation in this case of reckless driving that led to the initial stop. i do believe that, um, this this stop itself was very questionable. uh we have been unable to verify the reckless driving allegation. there have been many searches of video footage you know, along the corridors of the streets that this stop supposedly occur, or that they witnessing of reckless driving occurred and we haven't been able to substantiate in any type of video that, um there was a reckless driving type of action that prompted this stop. today tyree nichols's mother,

son. this is. this was not supposed to happen. my son was supposed to be with me today. tyree nichols's mother, saying she could not bring herself to watch the body camera footage she's been told it shows her son screaming out for her for me to find out that my son was calling my name, and i was only your feets away. it did not even hear him. you have no clue how i feel right now. no clue tonight, th attorney for one of the fired officers, desmond mills, saying the video will likely be terrible, but that not all of the officers played an equal role here. defending his client. you said that they weren't equal partners at night. what do you mean by that? everybody played their own role, and i suspect that you're going to see that some officers crossed the line. but it wasn't junior. the line

is a stepfather, rodney wells said the family is satisfied with the charges that include second degree murder once those charges were explained to the family tonight, both parents are asking for prayers for their son and their family and for any protests to be peaceful. we want peace. we do not want any type of uproar. we do not want any type of disturbance. we want peaceful protests. that's what the family wants. that's what the community wants. that was their plea as we were on the air with live coverage earlier today, and stephanie ramos is with us from memphis. she's outside the courthouse tonight. and stephanie i know that family, the community the country now preparing for this police body camera footage i know authorities are are somehow hoping that by preparing the public for what they'll see that it might help in this effort, this push for any protests to be peaceful. so what are you hearing from police tonight. when is the video expected to be released? exactly david. well, we're expected to receive it in

the next hour. it really could come at any moment now ahead of its release, tyree nichols, his family, including his mother, understandably emotional, wiping away tears, urging peace. if there are protests, they ask that they be peaceful as that body camera footage is about to be seen by the world. david stephanie ramos in memphis tonight, stephanie thank you. in the meantime, we turn now to the otherole video showing the attack on nancy pelosi's husband, paul pelosi, at their san francisco home body camera video from the responding officers showing the alleged attacker and pelosi both struggling with a hammer, you can hear right there, they tell the intruder to drop the hammer. what he says next. what he does next also surveillance video showing that intruder breaking into the home what he did to get in later telling police he was looking for the former speaker who was in washington, her husband, the victim. instead former speaker pelosi responding to all of this tonight, and abc is matt rivers from california.
