solutions. >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> -- a live look outside the golden gate bridge. meteorologist lisa argen tracking the storms for us. i am liz kreutz along with lisa argen. what a night. lisa: as we look at live doppler seven now, it is lit up in the north bay. live doppler seven around petaluma, inverness. we are looking at some pretty

good rain. anywhere from three quarters an inch an hour in some of these heavier downpours. check out all that lightning right there. that is a lot of lightning bolts. from petaluma right across 101, penn grove. this line is sinking south. it was a little further north. heads up around point reyes station into the votto, you could be hearing thunder and may be looking at lightning out there. as we look at the rest of the bay area, it is quiet, taking you through the next several hours. this batch of rain continues to lift off east, and the winds anywhere from 20 to 30 miles per hour will continue to lighten up. this is a very early morning event confined to the north bay, but we still have an overall flood watch through tuesday and a wind advisory through 1:00 p.m. today. we are getting set for a level 3

system that arrives very late tonight, after 10:00, so tonight is a nice rate from the morning storms in the north bay to the system tonight. we will be dry, but we still have rivers and streams running pretty high, so we will be watching that for you. as you look at light showers for about 10:00, notice the activity really does diminish. the winds do as well. we have a football game to play that will be played underneath cloudy skies, and another several rounds of rain coming our way. liz: thank you. in san francisco, crews are still cleaning up in the last storm as this next storm comes in. just a week ago, a storm swamped part of the city, flooding streets and businesses, and some are fearful think are just going to get worse. abc news reporter tara campbell spoke to restaurant owners. >> juan is readying his restaurant for another round of heavy rains.

recent storms hit san francisco's mission district hard. >> at least four inches on the sidewalk. and we do not have the sandbags. our customers opened the door, and all the water comes in. tara: sandbags lining the surrounding blocks, public works barricading businesses and homes in hopes of holding off the runoff. downtown, the emergency operations center is fully activated, crews working around the clock to clean up from recent storms while appearing for the next. >> our sewer syste able to successfully drain most of the in city flooding we have seen, and our tree crews have been doing an amazing job. tara: officials urging people to be prepared, warning power outages are likely. >> we are asking people to stay home if they can, just a ride out the storm the best way possible. tara: as for juan, he has done

the prep work and is hopeful of these sandbags are enough. >> dpw, they called were able to pick up a couple bags of sand. liz: if you need sandbags, a san francisco public works is opening its operations yard at 8:00 this morning. it will stay open until 2:00. strong winds and heavy rain caused some sparks to fly in concord last night. crew -- trees are seen blowin into high-voltage wires, leaving many pg&e customers in the dark. police quickly closed off concord boulevard. more than half a million people across california are without power right now. more than 20,000 of those outages are in be bay area, according to pg&e's outage map. the you -- the outage map many other trouble spots, and right now many of the outages are in the north bay. as a 4:00 this morning, more

than 13,000 customers are in the dark. on the peninsula, more than 9000 are without power. in the north, specifically guerneville, we have been getting calls from viewers about flooding. one man called and said, when he looked out his window, he could see water covering more than half of his neighbor's house. will have more on that in our next half hour. the santa rosa fire department says more -- several trees and power lines are down around the city. they tweeted a video of a tree that fell on a car while it was being repaired. one person was taken to the hospital. sonoma county fire fighters saw this fallen tree just west of susser road. crews it is a similar scene outside sacramento as well in elk world, where people are getting ready for more rain. down trees and outages there.

some are even looking to disaster workers per the red cross in elk grove says it is offering much needed really for folks, but it is not just people needing a place to say but anyone -- to stay but anyone needing a break. they say some people coming in are still processing the last storm. >> one client just came in and was expressing, since she has lived here, she has never seen anything to this extent.li vy e where to even start for her recovery. >> i think we are not used to losing our homes, so not knowing how long it will take to get back to their homes, so there's lots of depression, them to grab a meal and check out disaster relief resources. new details on the threat of a landslide in richmond. 15 homes were evacuated. this was after a crack was

discovered tuesday on a hillside in the sea cliff neighborhood. evacuation orders will remain in effect until further notice. there is no need to evacuate additional homes right now. richmond is providing accommodations through at least tomorrow for those who have evacuated. you can always track the rain and storm this weekend on the abc7 bay area streaming app. the abc7 bay area app is available on your roku, apple tv, fire tv, and enjoyed tv devices. a 15-year-old will be arraigned on murder charges after he was arrested for killing a security guard last week. the guard has been identified as gavin boston. he was 40 years old he was on the job for only two months and working on his third book. he was shot and killed while escorting two teams out of the mall. police arrested the 14 and 15.

nothing more than a band-aid. liz: after visiting texas, president biden will travel to mexico city to meet with mexico's president and canadian prime minister justin trudeau for the north american leaders summit. the state of colorado will stop busting migrants to chicago and new york. colorado's governor made the decision after having a productive conversation with the mayors of chicago and new york. those two mayors urged colorado to stop busting asylum city seekers to their city because they are overcapacity. they said they would work to pressure for a national solution. nearly 36,000 migrant -- asylum seeker's entered newo' emerge intake s hasmore than 3800 people from texas and other states, including colorado. coming up on "this week," the homeland security secretary sits

down with george stephanopoulos to talk with immigration crisis. you can watch the full interview at 8:00 this morning, right here on abc7. an update out of newport news, virginia, where an elementary school teacher was allegedly shot by a six-year-old boy. officials say the teacher is now in stable condition. the six-year-old student allegedly opened fire during an altercation friday with the teacher. authorities say the shooting was not accidental. thankfully, no students were injured. the unusual attack has people wondering how a child this young could do this to a teacher. >> six-year-old child would be sophisticated enough, number one, to know how to possess a gun, conceal it, carry it to school, and then, with discipline, fire one round at his teacher after an altercation. liz: the police chief in newport

news that with a teacher and her family yesterday. he urged the community to keep the teacher in its prayers and thoughts. after california congressman kevin mccarthy's historic win on capitol hill, becoming the speaker, other lawmakers are weighing in. at least one lawmaker thinks the contentious voting process is a sign of what is ahead for congress. -- shortly aft won the speakership after 15 votes. >> if the rest of the are anything like the first act, it is not going to be very pleasant. hopefully, now that we have passed this, things will get better. having said that, our next action, after getting sworn in, will be to accept rules back as to what governs us over the next two years, and that, i think unfortunately, along with what has happened the last few days, portends a fairly rocky couple

late last night, get on the plane, come here, and said this is a family affair for us. ♪ >> ♪ back, back, way back ♪ liz: the project has $1.9 billion over budget. construction started over a decade ago and ran late. street repair crews in san francisco started working on erosion control on the great highway. this is south of slow boulevard. this work is not new for city crews. the upper great highway has long been impacted by sand filled up. abc7 reporter suzanne phan is looking at what is being done to make sure service stays on track. >> if you take part, give yourself more time, about 20 minutes or so, for trains to arrive. more trains are out for repair, and more trains will be operating slower, given the exception nearly rainy

conditions. art authorities say train cars need to get wheels repaired every year. >> during slippery rail, what happens is the wheels are not able to spin as normal. what they will do is lock up a bit at times or they are not just spinning correctly, and that dragging motion, that grinding motion, creates a flat spot. suzanne: about 100 of bart's 862 cars are having their wheels reshaped. bart says it is working around the clock to make meat needs repairs, so riders should expected see shorter trains for the next couple of days, even weeks. bart also has crews on standby. >> we cleaned drains out in advance. we checked pumps, because pumps are important if we see flooding at our stations. we keep chainsaws nearby because trees and tree limbs will come at some point, fall on tracks. suzanne: caltrain had to deal with a downed tree this week. it shut down service for about

12 hours between hillsdale and mills break. >> we have an arborist inspecting the rest of the trees, trying to determine if there are other risks. suzanne: suzanne phan, abc7 news . liz: mta admitted it used red cups as drain pipes. according to muni authorities, those cups were removed two days later. we are talking about red solo cups. what a way to solve that. temporary fix for sure. let's get a check of what we can expect. i, for one, was definitely awoken overnight by the sound of thunder. lisa: and lightning over your head in that shot before, so we definitely have a line of some pretty strong storms in the north bay, with multiple lightning strikes, maybe a dozen. so you may have woken up to some thunder. and those heavy downpours burning down one third to half an inch in some spots.

we do get a break, but you can see lightning flashing offshore. more rain to come for the next several days. the week ahead looking awfully soggy. up to woodacre of highway 1, you can see all the lightning there. further north, it has been between highway 1 and 101. as we go to the east, there is a line of heavier rain from napa, highway 12, through sonoma, then 116 down to sears point. all of this lifting north and east. it does not look like we will see it any further south, but nonetheless, it is a pretty strong line of storms forming. we will be looking at this throughout the next hour or so with the gusty winds, and then we will look for a pretty dry day today as we get into our next system late tonight. there is a look at the wind gusts around the thunderstorm come up to 38 miles per hour in novato. elsewhere, light winds 2 to 20

mouse per hour. you got been height and you have gusty winds up to 40 miles per hour. after that line of storms moves through, 6:00, still some showers in the north bay. through the afternoon, we are dry. cloudy skies. it will take a while for this rain to queue up off-shore. once again, if it will queue up last night, look at tonight. sunday night into monday, 1:30, these reds, the heavy downpours pushes on through before your monday morning commute. then we get another dry slot into monday, but more rain is on the way monday night into tuesday. once again, we could see the atmosphere ripe for heavy downpours, thunderstorm activity, and the flooding concerns with the mudslides will continue as we get through the next 24 hours.

because you can see, by 4:00 tuesday, we are still looking at a very active environment here for some unstable air and that wet weather. putting together the totals today, tonight, tomorrow, it will bring us anywhere from an inch and a half in novato to an inch and a third in fremont. the focus of this next system, level 3 system, will be south of us, from the santa cruz mountains around big sur. that is where we had problems around aptos, capitola. winter storm warning through tuesday, wednesday in the sierra nevada. we are looking at to three feet. it is staying quite active. speaking of that, look at the week ahead. it does not stop. as we get into wednesday -- look at next weekend. here we are, into more rain. batten down the hatches tonight. level two today with thunderstorms this morning. then we are dry for the niners game.

the next several nights. as we look at live doppler 7 now, it has been lit up with those lightning strikes. you can see heavier downpours, look at the lightning right around 121, silverado trail road, taking you further south and west from highway 121, looking at cool mountain drive, heavy downpours, and toward 10 a pretty strong cell moving out, novato, widen the view, and you will notice these are pushing up to the northwest, through napa and vacaville. with the thunderstorms in the north bay. notice in the next few hours, we have the breezy winds under a wind advisory to 1:00, and then by 7:00, we are pretty quiet.

a lot of cloud cover out there and a flood advisory as we are expecting multiple rounds of those downpours that seem to be coming in late tonight, last night, and tonight into monday night. we will be looking at the gusty winds through the early afternoon, but the flood advisory through tuesday. it is going to be a level 3 tonight, a strong storm into monday. we will look at those mudslides continuing. liz? liz: ok, lisa, thank you. tense moments as firefighters tried to rescue a man pinned un a massive tree that fell on his home. authorities say the tree ways close to 200 tons. neighbors who watched the rescue say the man is lucky to be alive. we want to warn you, some of the images you are about to see will be disturbing. our abc 7 news reporter was there and when this the dramatic

rescue. >> this is the moment first responders were able to carry out this father, who was trapped under a eucalyptus tree that fell on his roof. >> there was a very loud explosion, a rubble. my first thought was an earthquake, than the power went out. >> michelle austin lives nearby. she tried to comfort the man's wife as he was being rescued. >> the gentle man was covered with stuff on the couch, and the tree was being supported by parts of walls of the home and part of the couch, so they were being very careful about securing the surrounding environment. >> several neighbors say the man is an officer with the oakland police department. >> first company arrived on scene, found a house cut in half by a large eucalyptus. >> the battalion tree for the alameda county fire department says the tree probably rad weigh between 150 and almos

an hour to free the man. >> we were able to do a lift with equipment. we were able to pull him out. we had two cranes on scene. luckily we did not have to use them. >> some residents say they have complained to the city about these massive trees that run along the creek behind the home and the threat of them falling. jason rogers gre up on this street. he and his father came out to see the damage. >> the house is split in half. it is shocking. there are so many eucalyptus trees behind these homes, they are so t sway. it was only a matter of time before, i guess, this happened. >> as neighbors watched the rescue, austen says his family got lucky. >> if he had not been on the couch right where he was, or is the whole family had been there, it could have been a whole lot worse. liz: what a terrifying situation. the battalion chief says the wife and four kids were able to

get out safely. the father did suffer injuries to his legs, but the battalion chief says they do not know the chief of the injuries. high coast is pounding. one of the hardest hit areas for wednesday's powerful storm, 25-foot waves in santa cruz split the wharf in half. the storm caused significant damage throughout the county and along the coast. look out santa cruz reports the county is making disaster funds available to storm victims. we are seeing more damage in santa cruz as well. look at that. the coast has been bombarded by high waves. justin mulvaney shared video of this storm damage. it sits just west of the boardwalk. in the north bay, the next round of storms is bringing flooding to some communities along the russian river. fire departments across the region are on standby right now, ready for possible water rescues and evacuations.

abc 7 news reporter cornell bullet nard -- cornell barnard has the latest from around the county. chris: -- cornell: check out new video. the county's fire district's chopper. saturday's reconnaissance mission showed swollen creeks and lagoons, the rushing river now reaching the top of the banks. with more storms on the impressions were sobering. abc7 news was there when sonoma county fire district chief mark heine landed after surveying the rising water and with more storms on the way, his impressions were sobering. chief heine: i think the flooding we're going to see will reach disaster proportions, getting into businesses, residences and cutting off access roads. cornell: many folks in guerneville have been getting ready this week for flooding and possible evacuations, stacking sandbags around shops and homes. danniel: right now, we don't have any power, we haven't had power since wednesday afternoon.

cornell: danniel falcon-schneider lives in cazadero, where toppled trees are everywhere. danniel: looks like a tornado went through. you couldn't see the asphalt, just all the branches. cornell: he worries flood water from the river could leave him stranded. danniel: my biggest fear is being stuck on the other side of guerneville, so the west side. cornell: the russian river isn't the only area first responders are concerned about, many are watching flood-prone santa rosa creek, preparing for possible water rescues. the santa rosa fire department's swift water rescue team was doing last minute training on the russian river and santa rosa creek, ready to respond to emergencies in real time. marshal lowenthal: they've been busy not only training but also pre-surveying our creeks and streams finding problem % we can to be prepared. cornell: firefighters urge folks living near creeks and rivers to be ready to leave their homes if water starts to rise. chief heine: have a plan b and have a go-bag packed, where you will go, and how you'll connect with your family, and how you will communicate, especially if

concerns impacting businesses already starting in a negative financial position in the new year. new this morning, some shoppers around the country, including california, are scrabbling to find eggs amid a national shortage. according to "the chronicle was ," the avian flu is to blame. it is now limiting big purchases. people who shop are limited to two cartons per checkout. nearly every state was hit by at least one avian flu outbreak last year and this impacted nearly 58 million wild and domestic birds. a new high-tech filtering process a one day make your even better. researchers at los alamos national laboratory have partnered with fiber read in new mexico to develop removing impurities and sediments. they used ultrasound technology. the new filtering process improves the beer's taste and could one day help breweries everywhere. >> it will save us a lot of time
