looking for the person that shot a dog last week. veterinarians found a bullet in the dog's right hind look legg. it shattered its femur. investigators are analyzing the bullet for any clues. >> the motor cyclist who was hit by a san francisco fire truck that ran a red light asked city officials to reject the $5 settlement agreement he's already signed. jack frazier spoke to i team reporter dan he suffered 18 crushed bones and a shattered knee. he wants them to re reject the

average 20 months from a shooting to a charging decision if there is one. the d.a.'s office blames it on a staffing shortage. >> unfortunately our office has not been well resourced to handle the investigation. >> today they make recommendations on the grand jury findings. >> the investigations take too long and, two, they are nowhere near transparent. >> now the district attorney says he can solve both problems. the mayor's office has allocated nearly $2 million to fund 14 new positions to clear the backlog of officer-involved shootings. those in the new unit would become the lead investigators for those cases taking the role away from the sfpd. >> we can get to work and provide san franciscans with the type of investigation they would like to see. >> the acting police chief wants an outside agency to investigate

officer shootings. he's not sure this is the answer. >> we are still going to run up against the same issue of us investigating us. i mean, the perception is, hey, you guys work with the d.a. office every single day. the police union opposes the plan. over the years that he's been district attorney here, he's made it clear his bias is towards the san francisco police department. >> one thing almos agrees on. >> today is the deadline to get permits to retro fit soft story buildings. those are wood frame multi-story units with 15 units for more. a garage or large opening on the ground floor makes them more vulnerable during earthquakes. they shake more, they're top heavy. today is the deadline to obtain

she was at war memorial gym this afternoon shortly after announcing she had stepped down. this comes just weeks before the team's first practice. she came out in march, she is married to her assistant head coach. she says after spending six years as head coach, she wants to pursue other interests, including public speaking. >> i loved my work with the nba. when you're a head division i coach, you can't be searching for another job at the same time, it's nearly impossible. so it's a little bit of a leap of faith. >> they will certainly miss her. she guided the team last year to a conference championship and first ncaa tournament in decades. >> now your accuweather forecast. >> and we've got a mild and sunny finish to the work and school week on the way but all eyes are on the weekend.

not only will it warm up but we're going to get hot but even inland around the bay for the second half of your weekend. we've got that cool, coastal cloud cover making its presence known. about 1,500 feet up showing you the low clouds over san francisco and into the east bay. the forecast is going to call for a foggy start. we're mild to warm in the afternoon tomorrow. it's going to feel pretty nice. by the weekend we have a heat alert. especially on sunday we are warm to hot across the entire region but do not worry if you are not a fan of the warm weather. cooler air arrives just as fall comes one week from today. >> the numbers around the bay, pretty comfortable. we have 50s in san francisco, 80s in san mateo. once away from that influence, you're in the 70s and 80s. fog around the bay will cool us around rather rapidly. most of us are falling into the low and mid 50s.

your starting temperatures tomorrow morning will mainly be in the 50s on your morning planner. first thing by 5:00 in the morning, we're slow to clear. by 9:00, a lot of sunshine inland. a fair amount of cloud cover. highs on your friday. we have that summer spread but it's not incredibly hot anywhere. our warmest is 90 in antioch, santa rosa at about 82 degrees. future tracker temperatures will jump ahead into the weekend. saturday, we're still going to call it pretty comfortable around the bay. we're holding in the 60s and 70s in most spots. hot inland in the mid 90s. by sunday we'll lose the marine influence, a land breeze connection in and that heats up everybody across the board from the coast to the bay to inland. we're calling it a sizzling sunday. near 80 in oakland, about 90

voluntarily recalled its galaxy note 7 smartphone, the safety commission has followed suit with a formal recall. >> jonathan joins us live from our newsroom. >> samsung's biggest smartphone is now the biggest nightmare. reports are still surfacing about batteries overheating and some exploding. with 800,000 phones still in the hands of consumers, regulators stepped in and samsung gave an apology. samsung's president apologized in a video just hours after this press conference. >> today we are announcing the official recall of 1 million samsung galaxy note 7 smartphones. >> samsung said it's already collected 130,000 of the defective phones blamed from

next month shoo the flu time returns for elementary students. the third annual campaign is an effort to make sure as many children as possible are protected from the flu. while pharmacies around the bay area have started offering vaccinations, one popular alternative is not being recommended this year. >> dr. bergen has spent decades fighting the flu. this year he's bracing for sad voices. >> not only are parents and children disappointed but a lot of pediatricians, too. >> he helps direct a program that vaccinated more than a million people in northern california last year. while some received a shot, others, including many children, opted for the popular flu mist. it's a kies that's not available this year at kaiser or any or
