people dead and six others hurt. finish at the moment it remains unclear what caused the shooting as it's still under investigation. we'll continue to bring you the latest on this story as we learn more. the shooting suspect from pennsylvania is now behind bars after killing three family members yesterday with. officials say he shot his 13-year-old sister, his step hour mother along with the mother of his two children. the suspect then car jacked another person at a gunpoint and fled to a house in new jersey. this led to an hours-long standoff with police you may have watched on this channel. the gunman was put in cuffs after he was spotted walking on the street a few blocks away. his specific charges have yet to be made public. now to iceland. the country is under a state of emergency as it gets rocked by another volcanic eruption, the fourth one in the last three months. icelandic officials reporting the first flows of lava from the

away by the wayside by corruption. unfortunately, there was just so much money that was misappropriated, you know? if starting with the clintons and assigning them to oversee haiti. and it's just, it's been a decline ever since. i tell you what, it's a sad thing to see and watch. you're talking about millions of people. there's the about 4 million people right now, will, that will be starving in in the next week or two in we -- or if we don't do something. this is going to be the one of the worst humanitarian cry sees to ever or hit the western hemisphere. will: help me understand quickly, jack, because i think what canned potentially be washing ashore in america, we first are is are to understand what's happening in haiti. help me understand the level of criminality, gang rule. we know what, we know a little more about what it's like today. we hear about a, you know, barbecue, the main gang leader running the streets of haiti, but what are the role gangs have played, and what's it like in

haiti on an ongoing basis? >> just take out your perspective understanding of what a gang member is and throw that away. these focus are now ruling this society. you talk about whether it's their local government, even all the way up to their national government, you know in the u.n. did a report in 28 of the 30 senators in haiti all had gang-related ties in drug dealing. so when you start thinking about fit, these gangs are controlling the politicians, they're controlling the streets. they've already taken over the ports, even the main port in port awe prifnlts right now as we speak the local law enforcement officers are battling with the gangs for control of the main if port into the country. so all the tax funding and revenue, everything's pay to play. i have about 120 o fans right now, i don't know what i'm going to do. we're trying to get them food, we can't get them food, will, because the gangs are there. so the streets are controlled by

them. so they literally put up roadblocks whether it's tires, they burn things and cut off the middle of the streets to cut off people as they're trying to move food and what have you. as you can imagine, if you can't get the food, the resource, now both of the major international airports both in port-au-prince and cape hay -- haitian are not doing flights. the u.s. government just announced a flight for americans, but they don't know the date on that. you have army level, military grade weapons being used on the ground in haiti. so this situation is dire. it's real. will: right. >> you heard governor ron desantis who's been out front talking about all these haitian migrants that are now coming to the border even in florida where i live. you see the haitian migrants coming across, and so we u.s.

must do something about this. i know we've been focus on ukraine which is out of our hemisphere, but this one right here hits home. we must do more to figure out the situation in haiti. will: you know, jack, one of the first things i saw, i was in the caribbean last week and and was reading a local pneumonia one of the first things the gangs did, they broke into the prisons and freed, like, 3,000 guys from the prisons. >> 4,000 actually. will: 4,000 prisoners hit the streets. so i'm curious what hits our shores. that caribbean newspaper, by the way, was like every island is worried about who's gown to show is up through boats on their shores. of what's going to show up on our shores? will it be the gang members? will it be refugees? will it be a massive influx of haitians? what comes to florida? >> a massive influx of haitian continuing to come. we already do. even schools in south florida, they're being overrun with, you know, haitian, creole-speaking

kids, and the teachers don't know what to do. the gang members are also coming here. i can tell you that. most of these haitians have family members or people that they know in the united states. and so where are you going to go? to the closest place where you can be around family or friends and people that you know. they can come here and speak the language, so obvious their -- they're going to come here. and let me be clear, some of these gang members have been in gangs pure toly to -- purely to survive is. will: right. >> you've9 got some good people and some bad people coming to our board, and we must do something now. in addition to that, you're going to have a genocide-like situation if we continue to have these the gang leaders controlling that island with no import and export if coming through that place. it's the a really bad situation. and america needs to lead on

it's never been more difficult to get the results we want for our kids. our next guest warns, quote, america has a family unfriendly culture that makes parenting harder than it should be. it's not one part of our culture that's the problem. the problem lies with our parenting culture, our school culture, our dating and mating culture, work culture. the shape of our communities and the individualistic and materialistic characters of our culture. timothy carney is a father of six, author of the new book "family unfriendly: how our culture made raising kids much harder than it needs to be," and joins us now. tim, congratses on the book. why have we have made it so hard on ourselves? >> for all sorts of reasons. a lot of it comes down to the fact that our culture's values are out of whack. the idea of commitment seems old old-fashioned but also just the idea that kids should have an expansive, fun childhood also seems outdated. people think, oh, i immediate to

give my kid the best of everything, to make sure that he has tutoring, that he's on a travel sports team, the idea that the kid rides his bike to little league and runs around the neighborhood, parents think that's not enough. and they think, again, they have to give their kids the best of everything, and and the culture is telling them you have to be afraid of a kid they were here. and also finally, you know what? america's a horrible, racist country, humans are ruining the planet, and so people feel guilty about having kids. that's why childhood anxiety is at record high, parents are more stressed than ever, and our birthrates are at their lowest level because our culture supposed to support families and make it easier, and it's doing the opposite. pete: this is a fascinating topic. rachel has seven kids, you have six. how do you get out of that trap? i know the book, reading it and

buying it is the way to get the best advice, but here at 6:30 in the morning if a parent if's watching, what eat the first thing you should do? >> you have to immerse yourself in a strong community that has the right values. so my wife and i, we have great catholic schools, we have church communities, and not everybody's giving their kid a smartphone, for instance. we have role models, slightly older parents who say that one thing the you're doing when our kids were babies, that eat not really necessary -- that's not really necessary. you don't have to play them mozart, you don't have to wore worry about that milestone the of are they reading by age 3 or 4. raising kids, it's the ultimately about the nuclear family, few the nuke -- but the nuclear family has always needed support, in-lawing church communities, strong local schools. that's why people end up thinking, oh, the government needs to spend more money, because they're not realizing, yes, families need support. it's t not from government money or, it's from your next door

neighbor and your church community. pete: exactly right i so often we get caught up in what with everybody's doing, what our kids are doing and activities, and that becomes the rhythm of our life, and pretty soon we're running around doing a bunch of activities, but we're not focused on the character formation of our kids. >> exactly. we turn something that should be a game by putting them in this intense withive travel sport, we turn it boo a job. so childhood, instead of being this expansive thing where you learn about all sorts of different activities, play a different sport every season, it becomes intensive. i interviewed all sorts of parents. this one music teacher said her favorite students, she doesn't tie to -- try to make them get on the kennedy center stage, her goal is to make them love music. they have this love for learning new things. that's the point of childhood, and that gets lost in this
