point. it was not. and then we drove a little further, there were like 50 police cars, martin county sheriff, police, all sorts of things. turns out there was a fishing boat that came ashore at coral cove park there on jupiter island, and 8 haitians and dominicans jumped out, apparently wearing life preserve errors ran into the brush, started hiding. they caught three of them immediately, and then all night long they looked for the other five. they eventually got them. but kathy and i were talking about how the difference is between how they handle thee migrants coming into the country in florida vs., texas, arizona, california. new mexico. >> car car. >> ainsley: we were on island down there tip of florida. they said all the time you see the boats come up on the beach and they have to call the authorities. >> steve: in the meantime, as griff mentioned, mentioned laken riley, laken riley's families were invited to attend tonight's state of the union address but

the president and others about, you know, the soul of the nation and the future of democracy. but, if you are sitting around your kitchen table and talking about the future of democracy, you probably don't -- you are not paying a lot of attention or don't need to to the cost of the food on your table. and most americans have more immediate concerns. biden has to address those tomorrow night and explain how he is fighting for them. >> steve: is he right. >> 100 percent right. interesting cbs poll came out when documents to foreign affairs. 41% of the country believe that joe biden over the next four years will provide stability and appeals in the road. 47% think donald trump will. man, everything -- all these other channels are saying, they must be so frustrated because nobody is listening. theys just making their own decisions. it must be driving them nuts. because they are trying to say he is chaos. the world doesn't like us. we are trying to do it alone.

"new york times" the trump-biden rematch is here. americans are processing. >> steve: well now that it's just the two of them, yesterday, after the press briefing, the former president of the united states went on to truth social and said this: he said it is important for the good of our country that joe biden and i debate issues that are so vital to america and the american people. therefore i'm calling for debates any time, anywhere, any place. he posted that. peter doocy told me shortly after this exchange. >> peter: now that the field is down to two, is president biden going to commit to a debate with donald trump. >> that's something for the campaign to speak to. peter peter we know when the debates are going to be and where they are going to be, is he going to go? >> you should speak to the campaign. >> peter: in 2020 once it got down to one-on-one, joe biden said i can hardly wait to debate him. how about now? >> i'm going to sound like a

broken record. you should reach out to the campaign. >> brian: i will tell you what, though, the republicans said and they have a good reason to, they are walking away from that commitment. >> steve: they did two years ago. >> brian: they are out. that would give joe biden out if he is looking for one unless is he trailing by double digits i think is he going to look to avoid it. they said some of their complaints are the moderators, failing to -- this organization files abide by bipartisan majority of board members publicly disparaging the republican nominee. there is a conflict of interest. they will say and now ronna mcdaniel that pushed that is now gone. >> lawrence: it's a fair point to say if you have people on the commission making public statements about the nominee in a very partisan way, how can you trust. >> brian: that guy from c-span. >> lawrence: how can you trust the moderator. this only works for the former president though, because it's clear the white house is afraid to put joe biden out there. can you imagine in a debate

forum? >> ainsley: i don't think they will. >> lawrence: remember, this ainsley, this is going to be the longest general election. if i'm trump, i want a debate every single month and if the president refuses to do it, i will just do a town hall. >> brian: early voting. >> ainsley: the voters want it. >> brian: went too long. >> steve: just the fact she would not answer yeah there are going to be debates means they are not going to do it. you watch ultimately the white house and campaign will do exactly what we suggested about nine months ago which was joe biden will say because donald trump skipped the republicans' debate i don't have to debate. >> ainsley: or you know who i am you have had me for four years have you already seen us debate. >> steve: got a million excuses i bet you dollar no debate. >> brian: i will say this. it's got to start -- they got to start earlier before early voting starts. >> lawrence: only fair. >> brian: a third the country voted already before the first one and almost everyone had voted sadly because of the pandemic before the last one. and the middle one was canceled.

supports giving growing families ivf from protecting the unborn to supporting ivf. we are a pro-life, pro-family state. last month several ivf clinics in alabama suspended operation after the state supreme court issued a ruling that those who destroy embryos can be held liable for wrongful death. just hours in michigan, opening arguments begin in the trial of the father of oxford school shooter ethan crumbley. james crumbley is facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter. his son pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life for killing four classmates and wounding six others in 2021. >> ethan's mom, jennifer crumbly was found guilty last month on four counts of voluntarily manslaughter. she is set to be sentenced next month. and a judge finding rust armorer hannah gutierrez reed guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting of halyna hutchins.

deflecting, the challenge facing joe biden tonight is every president, when they go out into the ross trump of the house they say the state of the union is strong. ask yourself a simple question 73% of americans say we are heading in the wrong direction. 43% of americans say joe biden's policies have made their lives worse. only 18% say that he has made their lives better. and so you look -- you look -- he is under water on every single issue by double digits. the state of the union is not strong. and that's hard to overcome with any speech. speech writers are good, they are important. i was a speech writer. i loved the craft there are some problems words can't fix. >> steve: absolutely. you have a new op-ed in the wapo, the headline trump needs haley voters to win back the white house. what you -- you make the case that he has got a lot of great supporters who are 100 percent behind him. >> yep. >> steve: he can't win with just

them. he needs to get the independents and the republicans who voted for her during the primary. >> yeah. no, 100 percent. nikki haley is out of the race but her voters will probably decide the 2024 election. you know, they are -- they are the swing voters of 2024. they are a mix of non-maga republicans, mostly with some independents and democrats mixed in. and they are going to decide this race. i went back and looked at all the races so far, she won exactly 2,873,491 votes. the 2020 election was decided by 22,419 votes in three states. trump can't afford to leave any votes on the table. and those voters are going to be the most coveted voters in this election. >> steve: right. >> they are the swing voters who will decide the race. >> steve: in your op-ed you write many republicans look at this and say there is no way joe biden can win. yes he can. if you don't believe it i have got three words for you senator john fetterman. >> yeah.

practice. >> we are seeing everyone. gen z kids are the first generation to grow up on their screens from the beginning. they are on their screens when he they're young. they are not spending enough time outside. and we now know that sunlight exposure is greatly increasing their risk of becoming nearsighted. so these kids have been outside about half the time we were when we were younger. and originally we thought that was just related to good mental health but the fact is that being outside in the sunlight exposure increases our dopamine levels. and we now know that dopamine inhibits the growth of the eyes in these kids. so without being outside, we're leaving -- we are basically leading to an epidemic of myopia. >> and myopia is near sightedness. >> you can't see far away. >> how do we avoid this what are tips? >> big thing is outdoor time and focusing in the distance. putting down the screens, even putting down books and being outside. it doesn't mean that you have to do any particular exercise.

we are talking about sunlight exposure and not focusing up close for hours upon hours. another thing is obviously limiting screen time when kids are indoors. it's all about balance, ainsley. it's not very easy. we know that we are parents. if you can balance out the time and decrease a little bit of near work and station at the screen and say hey, you know, just do some chores around the house or just hang out and look in the distance. actually makes a big distance in these kids. >> ainsley: when you compare the kids millennials the generation before gen zers they grew up their entire life with screens available for them. >> that's right. >> ainsley: can you tell the difference in those two generations. >> you can. you can tell the difference not as drastic as the difference between say gen x and millennials. it's a trend. we are seeing the same trend all over the world. the biggest studies on this came out of china where they now are reaching about 95% of their children being myopic. that's humongous because they are not going outside. they are staring inside at either screens or studying, you
