view by tomorrow. >> harris: we'll start off with breaking news. top congressional leaders heading into the white house this hour. president biden is trying to see if he can save cash for ukraine to fight its war with russia as we've been reporting, many house republicans are standing firm against democrats on this. and it actually is just one of the issues that could lead to a government shutdown. here is how it is all unfolding right now. the big four leaders, house speaker mike johnson, house democrat leader hakeem jeffries, chuck schumer, mitch mcconnell. all set to sit down with president biden this hour. the last time this group met was in mid-january to talk about how to break a stalemate over border policy and foreign aid. the border is still wide open to our peril. why they didn't look at republicans' house bill hr2 that
8:02 am
has been in the senate since may of last year, when you run into a democratic leader we'll all ask them. if the big four and president biden today don't reach spending agreements, and it doesn't happen until friday night even, a partial shutdown will happen. on march 8th we could see the entire government shutting down. we'll bring you all the latest from the white house as soon as this begins. as we often say at the heart of everything right now is our national security. biden's border disaster. we expect those leaders will hit that topic, too. the president finally is planning a visit, after more than a year, of that disaster at the border. when this will be his third time in three-plus years. it has cooked on a hot flame under his presidency. former president trump will also be at the border, different city, same day, both of them will be in texas on the border.
8:03 am
biden says he had no idea trump was going. okay. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." the president will be in eagle pass, as i mentioned, so they aren't in the same place at the same time but the same state. 13 months ago he made a one-hour stop in el paso. they cleaned up everything and forensicly ready and nothing was happening at the border was the message. not before officials again made it pretty for a photo op did he show up. donald trump that day will speak in brownsville. biden's destination has been a big slowdown and illegal crossing in recent months. trump's location is seeing more than twice that number in the same time frame. so far, we've gotten very few details on biden's trip but we can probably bet he will bring his blame game with him. the president of the national border patrol council with this.
8:04 am
>> everything that he does is too little too late at this point. he had three years to do what he needed to do to secure the border. he had three years to put policies in place. now we're only eight months from an election and now it looks like he is interested and only interested in it because it's self-serving and he wants to save himself. >> harris: of course, the white house is finger pointing. >> he was able to move the ball forward in the senate to get a bipartisan negotiation on the border, security deal. that was rejected by republicans because of the last president and president trump to be exact. it passed out of the senate and now needs to go to the house. >> harris: the community of athens, georgia and beyond reeling as a result of the border crisis. horrible new information on laken riley, the 22-year-old nursing student found dead after going for a run near campus. an autopsy showed blunt force trauma to her head killed her.
8:05 am
in fact, somehow the killer disfigured her skull in that attack. the suspect charged with her murder is an illegal immigrant with a rap sheet yet allowed to stay in the country. in "focus" fox news contributor steve hilton. let's go to rich edson first at the white house. a bevy of activity going on there. >> there really is, harris. on that case the white house is pointing to local law enforcement and ice when it comes to that particular case. the white house spokesperson says we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved once of laken riley and folks should be held to the fullest extent of the law if found guilty. a new gallup poll says 28% of americans find immigration the most important thing going on. the first time in five years
8:06 am
immigration has ranked first on this list. the white house says the president on his border trip will press house republicans to pass the bipartisan senate border bill that includes more known for border security and aid to israel and ukraine. the republicans contain they can reverse the orders on border enforcement. >> i'm here to tell the you when donald trump is reelected. i believe he will be reelected in november, when he comes back into office in january, we'll see the numbers plummet again because what it takes is a president willing to enforce the law. >> democrats say republicans refuse to pass the bill they negotiated to rob president biden of a political win. they argue the southern border needs more than just security. >> we have all different kinds of chaos and challenges from not having enough immigration judges to not investing in technology that can help us screen for fentanyl that i voted for. we need to do more on. we haven't kept our promise to
8:07 am
dreamers. all of these things come together to create the kind of chaotic immigration policies we see. >> president biden meets with congressional lieders this hour talking about government funding. we'll see if border comes up. >> harris: significant new polling on the border crisis now. immigration is now the top issue for voters in nearly five years. we learned that from the primary season, right? iowa, new hampshire, americans are seeing what is happening. south carolina. another poll finds 61% see illegal immigration as a very serious problem. more than half. for the first time ever, a majority now support building donald trump's border wall. steve hilton, fox news contributor. so things have gone so badly that democrats, republicans, independents, voters who take part in these surveys are all saying the same thing. we would rather have donald trump's wall and policies to
8:08 am
whatever biden is doing now. >> exactly. you know what is so absolutely infuriating and tragic at the same time about all this. it is taking us right back to 2015, 2016 when these issues were so prominent in our national conversation and donald trump focused on them and made them the centerpiece of his campaign and then he got elected and he started implementing his promises. the border wasn't perfect in the trump administration but it was controlled and secure and people were vetted. in comes biden and almost overnight reverses all of that. now we're right back to where we were five or six years ago. more than that. eight years ago. people are furious rightly about it. >> harris: i want to know how in the world biden convinced democrats that even parting with obama's deporter in chief reputation, his policies, former president obama's policies breaking with one of the most
8:09 am
popular democrats in u.s. history for them was a good idea? who was listening to biden on the border? had they not looked at 50 years of his foreign policy? >> actually this is the central question. the most important thing we have to remember. none of this is some kind of policy accident or just incompetence on the part of the administration. it is all deliberate and it is all driven by the far left ideology that has captured the democratic party. biden because he is just a weak machine politician who goes along with anything. he just fell in line with the far left ideology. we saw it applied in all sorts of areas, not just the border but also in crime, on climate policy on everything. they've gone to the far left. the border was a simple idea, any kind of control of the border, any kind of management of the border is equivalent to racism.
8:10 am
that's what they believe. and biden just went along with it. now you are seeing the consequences. at the 11th hour before an election when it hits them in the face they're finally saying we better do something. this is deliberate. this is the far left ideology in action. >> harris: i'm not convinced they care anything about racism and knocking down racial issues. you have a president who said if you didn't vote for him when he was a candidate you weren't black. you have a president who has put black and brown people coming across that border in jeopardy, women and children, by letting it just lay wide open. you would have to go really far to convince me that was a goal. politically what you are saying is right. let's keep the heat on now. they had a bill they could have looked at since last may. marsha blackburn was in "focus" yesterday talking about the stand alone bill not tied to ukraine and everything else. it was a stand alone. they could have talked about it. it stalled in the senate.
8:11 am
it is the next year. it is february of 2024. watch. >> hr2, that bill landed in the u.s. senate on may 15th of 2023. we have had over 80 meetings and hearings of the senate judiciary committee since that bill landed in the senate. we have talked about let's bring about immigration and the border. why didn't they take up hr2? if they didn't like the bill amend it and put in provisions that would actually secure the border. but this administration has wanted an open border. that has been their policy. >> harris: they have had 80 meetings on everything else and every time it was brought up it was no, no, no, we won't talk about the border. >> again, remind -- that reminds us of a really important point in all of this when they try to pretend they are actually taking
8:12 am
action. marsha blackburn said it well. they could have done it for years but they didn't. the only thing that brought them to the table was the republican demand that this is connected to ukraine funding. that's the only thing that got them talking in congress and got some movement. so that tells you their priorities. it is outrageous. the other point that was touched on earlier by rich if his report is that all these things that have made the border wide open and brought millions and millions of unvetted people into our country. all of that was done without any action from congress. it was all done directly by the biden administration through executive actions. if they can open the border without congress, why can't they close it without congress? >> harris: preach it. it is so true. if he could flip the switch on 94 executive actions and orders by trump, can't he flip it back to make us safe again? i will ask my team to go back to
8:13 am
that picture of hugh -- what couple yeah, california. they are not even smuggling people. they are walking across the border now. they are smuggling fentanyl. the president is going to brownsville, texas. that was at one point one of those areas where they saw a lot of activity. now they see between 20400 a day. in parts like eagle pass, texas, along the way the last three years we've seen as many as 10,000 a day. he is again just like he did months ago in el paso is going to a place that will be swept clean for his eyes only to see that not much is happening. take him to where this line of people is. take him to san diego. take him to where people are coming in and let him see how many chinese nationals are coming in for money and laughing at us and oh, look how you do
8:14 am
this on tiktok and making themselves famous. why don't you take him to where the problem is? the former president will be in eagle pass, texas where we still have thousands of people coming over. >> the reason they don't. this is not about solving the problem but looking like he is solving the problem. he wants to go somewhere to point to say it's not as bad as people say. the things we're doing are making it better. the thing said about the queen of england. everywhere she went she thought everywhere in the country smelled of fresh paint. every place she visited they just painted the place. it's like that with biden. they will never show him the real problem. it is all p.r, just rubbish. you won't get the problem solved until you get someone in office who really believes in securing the border. >> harris: yeah. steve hilton, thank you for that example. i would imagine there will be parts of brownsville that might smell like fresh paint or at
8:15 am
least the metaphor there. hunter biden is set to be under oath tomorrow on capitol hill and why his closed-door deposition could be the most significant event so far in his dad's impeachment inquiry. plus the first major battleground state in the presidential primaries is voting right now. you are looking live at grand rapids, michigan. michigan could spell trouble for president biden. >> it will be quite an embarrassment for the current president. if i had to predict i think it is a good possibility that he will get more uncommitted votes than for joe biden. >> we'll get into why those people are calling themselves uncommitted and what it could mean in the general election. power panel next.

>> harris: and you are looking live right now where the big four that i mentioned, two leaders from the house, two leaders from the senate, bipartisan are meeting with the president trying to avoid a shutdown of the government but they are also really at the heart of it talking about issues like aid for ukraine and biden's border disaster. as they arrive we'll show you take live and they'll go in and meet with the president. it has been a while since they've done this. i mentioned earlier in the program not since mid-january. they'll try to get a deal. the partial shutdown begins this friday if they can't get a deal. so we'll stay on this. lawmakers sometimes what you can't see just out of sight.

our banner is covering it, are the microphones. this is the area where sometimes they will speak going in but usually talk when they come out. you won't miss the news. wanted to show you the live picture. they are due any moment now. polling indicates that former president donald trump will win today's michigan primary. he will get some delegates. even nikki haley could get some if she loses. we'll also cover that as it happens. on the other side, the battleground state of michigan could be a real test for president biden. so far him the big sticking issue is that he refuses to call for a cease-fire in the israel/hamas war. yesterday while eating ice cream he did say it could happen by the weekend. so what is happening with that? is he trying to keep some voters? here is the problem. michigan has a large arab american population angry enough

8:24 am
circumstances you mentioned the arab american muslims withholding their support and campaign ads you had a member of congress saying we'll be looking to november because you are not going to get our support. not only that, what is really interesting about michigan is all the places like for the teamsters is a good example. 56% of them in 2020 voted for joe biden to president. he will have to defend every battleground not just with independents and some republicans but he will have to try to defend himself in michigan. he have is in real trouble here if he loses michigan in the general election and i think that's what's going on here. they are taking it on all sides not to mention the voter. >> harris: we haven't gotten to the jewish vote in new york to be challenged as well. can we go back to the picture eating ice cream and that's where he was talking about these important, sobering issues that involve arab american muslim

communities and the jewish faith communities. just make that make sense. >> look, i think that the president has come out strongly for israel. i think what's happening here in michigan is a symbolic vote. there are people who disagree with his policy. i don't think those people will wind up voting for donald trump, or for republicans. >> harris: what if they stay home? >> it doesn't count. i don't think they'll stay home knowing that donald trump moved to embassy to jerusalem and is even stronger for israel. i think it is important to put in perspective. this is israel against hamas, not israel against the muslim or arab community. it is unfortunate that politics is playing a role here. the president is taking a clear moral stance on behalf of israel and i hope he sticks to it.
8:26 am
>> harris: what is going on yesterday when he said there could be a cease-fire by the weekend. you have policy to articulate without ice cream in your mouth. >> i'm not for ice cream articulation, i'll tell you that. he have is indicating there are serious negotiations. netanyahu is indicating there are serious negotiations. there could be a breakthrough here. >> harris: netanyahu said hamas isn't there yet. >> i don't think even if there is a cease-fire i don't think it takes it off the table as an issue for many of those americans who care about this. they'll look at it from the start of october 7th and what he has done, which again we can agree what's right and what's wrong. some folks view even supporting israel as wrong. so this will be an issue that continues, i think, even if there is a cease-fire. >> harris: it's an interesting point that you made there, mark, about well -- i was there when they opened the jerusalem u.s.
