9:12 am
would you even do that? what does he have to gain from going? >> i think if he comes in the first debate in milwaukee may be the second one at the reagan library those two if he takes charge the way i saw him again firsthand eight years ago when the 2016 process, if he takes charge i think any questions about the polling, it's high but is it thick? i think that starts to change dramatically put on the other end if he does not show up weathers ron desantis, tim scott, nikki haley, tim scott whoever it might be of one or more this candidates catches fire and really attracts the attention of the american particularly primary voters that could be something work and cut into his lead. i think in the end republican voters want to see all the candidates including the president. if he is got a strong message i think you'll see nothing but his polls going up. >> how do one of those candidates break through here? given the dynamics of this race? >> the need to disregard the record but one of the mistakes i made eight years ago i had a powerful record as governor and a blue state that came in and
9:13 am
ran on them. that is what political consultants in washington tell you to do. that is a big mistakes. can it governor desantis and others out there have to show they are just as bold as donald trump. and maybe make the case they are better equipped to beat joe biden. right now though, republican voters see what donald trump did. they like what he did as president even if they did not always agree with his tweets and comments and until someone else can stand up and say i can do better, he is going to continue to be the leader brickwork sets pretty remarkable advice you are basically saying take your experience in the whole reason you are here and throw it out the window and move on. you think politics of change of the staff past several years? >> i think it has it's not just about experience that got you on the stage that the thing i forgot about i do not know why because the rest of my life i always been the outsider, the longshot in this case we should have remembered that. that is what i would tell anybody else running, your record got you on the debate stage but now you have got to take charge and show the american voters particularly
9:14 am
primary voters in these first few debates exactly what you plan on doing and how you're going to get it done. donald trump eight years ago it was simple things and build the wall, drain the swamp, ideas like that he talks about in debates and on the campaign trail and voters resonated with that. >> do you think the field has a better chance of beating joe biden over for president trump? >> you know some people early on were suggesting but the latest polls show not only nationwide but particularly in key battleground states he still needs to make inroads in wisconsin which is made be the key state in 2016 he won by 23000 votes. four years later the outcome flipped by about the same margin. it's one of the reasons as well he should show up in milwaukee. not just for primary voters but wisconsin voters felt slighted when hillary clinton lost the primary in 2016 and never came back. she barely lost the states. i hope he will come even if he is the nominee, which looks like he is on track to be right now.
9:15 am
i think every time he can make a strong presence in the state of wisconsin, pays offer him the general election. >> you look for the general right now the current president has a liability and the lines being drawn between hunter biden and special counsel that is been appointed to investigate him. but then you got the former president trump who has got possibly for indictments he is facing. does that become a washer wit and of the republican have a better opportunity there? >> no, think republican voters no matter who they are for whether to donald trump or any of the other candidates can see this what it is for. it's largely politically motivated print that's how most voters at least right of center see it conversely in the general election there's now a number of voters research a question not only the political timing and nature of these indictments but is it really just a big distraction from the problems that not only hunter biden has been increasing the correlation or connection to president joe biden himself?
