which was neat. one day in jacksonville, i was at a golf driving range, i needed to work on my swing. i had noticed someone left a half full bucket of balls and other side was this guy. >> i was lieutenant junior grade stationed in mayport, just happened to this range one day. i'm hitting, she's there, i see her looking over her shoulder, i thought she was looking at me. i saw the balls there, i used the balls to start the conversation. >> we got to talking and basically the rest is history, we met over a bucket of balls and beer at a driving range. our son and daughter are getting into golf, which is cool because that is how mom and dad met. >> ainsley: what is day in the life of desantis family look like? >> no two days are the same.

summer vacation, my son did fsu baseball camp, tennis camp with the girls. it is a team effort. we bring them with us on the campaign trail as we can. >> ainsley: how did you decide as a couple, it was time to run for president of the united states? >> i would say starting in november of 2020, number one thing i would get on the street is 2024. our view, are you the one to beat biden and deliver on this stuff over an eight-year period and serve two terms and we came to the conclusion we were the ones to do it and get it done. no looking back. we both have this calling and you probably know my story issue right? about a year and a half ago, i didn't know whether i would see my kids graduate from kindergarten. >> ainsley: 2021 you are diagnosed with skin cancer.

today you are cancer free. walk me through those words and what happened after that? >> when you start hearing those words, it is not definitive, it is we see something that is problematic. the hard part, i had four, three and one year old in the house and it is like very, very difficult when you look at your children and they don't know tomp this day, they still don't know, they have no idea what mama went through. i went through six rounds of chemotherapy and i had surgery. i told them, i hurt my arm, i didn't want to tell them. through god's grace, we're here and this guy helped me more than he will ever realize. >> we got a lot of outpouring of support when we made it public.

everything negatively. >> ainsley: the debate, do you want trump to participate or is this time for you to shine? >> i think we'll do well either way, i think he owes it to people to participate. nobody is entitled to be nominated, you got to earn it, earn everything in this world. i think you show up, i think you participate, make your case and answer questions. we'll be doing that regardless who else shows up. he ought to participate. >> steve: absolutely. >> brian: he got big donors early, will he get smaller donors now to bring him through? >> ainsley: we'll see. after being with him, i don't know if he'll be governor in 2024, i mean, president, i definitely foresee him being president at some point. they are a good match, a good team. >> steve: got a great story. great job. >> brian: unlike most politicians, he is not comfortable talking about his accolades.
