11:00 am
>> sandra: top of the hour and you are looking live at brownsville, texas, where texas governor greg abbott and the national guard have gathered there. abbott is about to provide an update on the growing border crisis in his state. we will just a short time from now it appears take the
11:01 am
governor's remarks live. we'll see if the press is gathering around him, he might be starting shortly. all this as a group of moms fight back against fentanyl. >> this is a war like i'm raising the flag. our sons were a casualty of this war. >> sandra: we will meet the heroic moms to make sure not one more child dies from fentanyl poisoning. >> john: and china upping the ante on espionage efforts in the united states. a closer look at the schemes that have xi's regime mining data everywhere, from headquarters to your phone. >> sandra: this high school junior is so fast, she had to create a race category to keep things competitive. she'll be joining us live to talk about running for the all time record. do you think i'm excited about that? welcome back as "america reports" sprints into a second hour. sandra smith in new york. we'll keep our eye on developments at the border with
11:02 am
the governor, john. >> john: we will. john roberts in washington. all of those stories and more coming up but begin with this fox news alert. >> sandra: a long and brutal week for the fbi has left the nation's top law enforcement agency in credibility and crisis. starts at the highest level. >> some people at the top forgot their oath they made to the fbi and that's what's got to change. >> john: still unpacking the explosive john durham report, new revelations the fbi shut down multiple investigations into alleged criminal activity involving the clintons just months before the 2016 election. >> sandra: republicans are calling for the agency to reopen the probes. get right to it with national correspondent griff jenkins. good to see you. where do things stands right now? >> great we. the week began with the durham drop but ends with renewed calls for investigations and a big
11:03 am
question mark, will john durham testify next week as requested by jim jordan. top question will be why did the fbi top brass shut down all four investigations into the clintons and the clinton foundation? well, one instance, remember, investigating claims beginning in late 2014 from a well placed confidential source that not one, but two foreign governments were seeking to buy influence with hillary during a presidential campaign through illegal donations. then the other three cases, investigations were launched in early 2016 by field offices in arkansas, new york and d.c., probing possible criminal activity by the clinton foundation. durham highlights the markedly different way, sandra, the way they approached the clinton investigations versus trump and significant intelligence from trusted sources about a clinton plan to vilify trump to divert
11:04 am
attention from herself. in the report durham writes unlike the feb opening of a full trp campaign based on raw in corroborated information in the separate matter involving a purported clinton campaign plan, the fbi never opened an inquiry, employed any analytical personnel or analytical products in connection with that information. so does durham believe the fbi was derelict in not opening that investigation? past clinton investigations have likely run their course on the statute of limitations, unlikely to see those reopening. what durham might shed light on next week before the judiciary committee if he testifies could open new doors, sandra, and just add lastly, fox has learned there are negotiations underway between durham, the doj and to see if he can testify and a.g. merrick garland will not block him from testifying if he
11:05 am
chooses to do so. >> sandra: all very interesting stuff. we'll follow all of it. thank you. >> john: and take you back live to brownsville, texas, where the next little while we expect the governor greg abbott of texas, he's rolling up to the microphones there and members of the national guard will be holding a news conference on the status of what's going on at the border. we do know that since title 42 was rescinded, crossings at the border have gone down to a certain degree but in the week leading up to the rescission, there was a tremendous number of people who crossed over. we saw those pictures, sandra, every day there in brownsville up on the levee, hundreds of people lined up trying t get into the united states. >> sandra: appears we are going to hear from the governor, joined by the texas department of public safety director steve mcgraw, and brigadier general matt barker, texas border czar matt banks, and the governor is at the microphone. >> here together with brigadier
11:06 am
general barker, and come out to this location, pretty much ground 0 in the united states in the aftermath of joe biden, lifting title 42. many people can remember that on the night that title 42 was lifted and the ensuing days, the riverbank right behind me was the location where migrants repeatedly tried to enter the united states illegally, and there was only one thing that caused them to not enter illegally, and that's because the texas national guard, the texas department of public safety, building the barriers needed to prevent people from entering and then having the personnel behind those barriers to ensure that no one would enter. as far as i know, it's the first time in american history that a state has led the effort to prevent people from entering the
11:07 am
united states illegally. let's be clear. that's the job and the responsibility of joe biden and the federal government. only one reason why people were trying to enter illegally in the first place, and that's because they perceive the permission by the biden administration to enter. i wanted to be here and thank the soldiers and troopers and other personnel. texas was able to secure the border and prevent people from entering illegally only because of their unprecedented effort in a challenging terrain and sweltering conditions and they were up to the task. and similarly, their fellow soldiers up and down the entire border from here to el paso are working in the same way, and i have the same gratitude for all national guard from here to el paso and dps troopers from here to el paso working around the
11:08 am
clock to make sure that we build the barriers that are needed and deploy the personnel needed to make sure we secure the border. now never forget this. it was just three years ago in these exact same areas where we had the lowest number of illegal border crossings in about 40 years and the reason it was that way, we had an administration that imposed the title 42 policy, the remain in mexico policy, ending of catch and release and the building of a border wall. when joe biden came in, he eliminated all of those measures and led to the unprecedented border crossings. texas has had respond to the biden administration refusal to employ immigration laws. and more than 1,000 department of public safety troopers, they have turned back tens of thousands of people trying to cross the border illegally.
11:09 am
together just texas law enforcement alone have seized enough deadly fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in the entire united states of america, and to relieve congestion and crowded conditions in communities ranging from brownsville to eagle pass to del rio to el paso. we are bussing people who the biden administration has allowed into the communities to sanctuary cities across the united states. and in addition to this concertina wire border wall that you see. texas is also the only state in the history of america to build our own border wall. an effort that we will continue. one thing that we have seen, and that is it's not just texas that's a border state. because of what the biden administration has done, every state in america is a border state. joe biden allows these people to cross the border illegally and
11:10 am
then they are transported by the biden administration to other cities and states across the country. governors of those other states recognize that they are not going to be able to deal with the chaos caused by joe biden in their own states. and that's one reason why i've made the request for other states to join in this effort. other states who witness what texas was doing to repel people from coming illegally, we have commitments from florida and idaho to provide either national guard or law enforcement officers to assist in the effort. and other states are reaching out to provide assistance. in addition to all of that, i'm working on new laws as we come to a close of this legislative session that will provide us even more tools. one is we are seeking to make it a felony for anybody to cross into the state of texas
11:11 am
illegally. in addition to what we currently have in place, we would also be able to begin arresting people for crossing into our state illegally and put them behind bars for a very long time. we also want to make it a felony for anybody operating a stash house. when people come across the border between ports of entry, typically one of the first places they go to is to a stash house and we want to be more effective in shutting those down. and then the last new law is something i find the most reprehensible thing i've seen as governor. our fellow texans are providing aid and assistance to the drug cartels across the border by picking up people who come across illegally and assisting and smuggling them illegally in the state of texas and we need to shut that down. and so we are seeking a law to create a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years behind bars for anyone caught smuggling
11:12 am
people illegally in the state of texas. one of the leaders of this effort for the national guard is brigadier general barker, i'll have him make a few remarks at this time. >> thank you, sir. the eyes of texas and indeed the entire nation have been on our guardsmen for the past few weeks, and they have performed flawlessly. i am so proud of their skill, their professionalism, their operational agility, and their resolve. the resolve to hold the line and we will continue holding the line. we will continue leveraging our asymmetric capabilities such as our water craft operations, our small unmanned aerial systems, our brush teams that are out with the department of public safety partners every night, stopping illegal narcotics, human trafficking and weapons and engineers who have worked
11:13 am
tirelessly over the past few weeks to improve physical security at key points up and down the border. i also want to say we will continue to support dps and our municipal law enforcement partners in this important work. we look forward to the contributions of our florida national guard soldiers who will be joining joint task force lone star within 72 hours. i also wanted to express my gratitude for the public support we have received, especially in our border communities where our guardsmen not only work and serve but live. and finally, perhaps most importantly, i want to offer my heartfelt thanks to those guardsmen's families for their unwavering support which enables them to continue in this important mission. thank you. >> thank you, general. so, you mentioned several things that are incredibly important.
11:14 am
we have gratitude for all of these national guard and dps officers. we also have gratitude for their families. we know they don't serve alone but as family unit and when the family unit is strong, the guard, dps officers and service are even stronger. also as the brigadier general mentioned, the eyes of america are on texas. texas needed to step up and do what it needed to do. these men and women in uniform here today, they are considered to be heroes by their fellow americans. and they should be proud of what they have done, i'm proud of what they have done. someone else who has been helping to lead and coordinate this effort is colonel steve mccraw, the director of the texas department of public safety. >> thank you, governor. general, your people are phenomenal, outstanding, around the clock always on the go, appreciate it. the governor's homeland security strategy is a key part of this
11:15 am
tactical called operation hold the line. hold the line operations, he's made it very clear, 29 ports of entry in texas. that's where migrants can go but this law limits the cartels, trans national activity and migrants seeking to come across. and cartels, billions of dollars, a lot of money at stake, raked billions of dollars in the human trafficking aspect and they will push in the areas. we have the people and the capabilities and the strategy to address that. for example, cartels made it very clear and they are teaching, coaching, providing tactics and techniques and procedures for smugglers and providing them better than what the troops have to install the razor wire to defeat it. and every time they do so and damage the razor wire, they'll be charged with a state crime of
11:16 am
criminal mischief, a class b, or maybe class a how they damage. the governor made it clear we are going to stand tall, and as the cartels move, whether it's this sector or the other four sectors in texas we will continue to respond. governor, thank you for your leadership on this important issue. >> thank you. now the texas border czar, matt banks. >> honor to be here, gratitude to the men of the texas dps and texas guard. a few days after governor abbott launched the tactical border force to support the rest of the lone star troops down here, we saw a significant reduction in the traffic. looking at 2700 daily average migrants crossing right here in this area. today we see 20 on a daily average. and so i think it's a testament to what a few hundred brave men and women can do on the border
11:17 am
when they are supported by a leader like governor abbott who was serious about securing our border, about protecting the state of texas and our country, and we owe a debt of gat tude to every guy and gal down here, i've been down here with them and never seen a group work together better and harder in this heat and it's phenomenal job. thank you. >> thank you. we'll take a few questions. >> governor, what's your response to people concerned about the state created border patrol unit, they might think it's discriminatory or infringe on federal issues. what's your response to the concerns? >> somebody in this country has to step up and hold the line and not allow people to cross into the country illegally. this is the state of texas, and we have every right to secure our border and that's exactly what we are doing and will continue to do. >> governor, what's the state of texas doing after eight individuals were hit and killed by vehicles, the city of
11:18 am
brownsville, other cities are having trouble managing the number of people on the streets. how is the state of texas stepping in -- >> so first, i've been in communication ano make sure to do with regard to the person who caused the mayhem in the first place. part of our goal is to make sure that we don't have large number of people like that on the streets in potentially unsafe conditions and consequence or byproduct what we are doing on the border should lead to fewer people on the street subject to crimes like that. >> governor, there's an historic resource right over there, the battle -- first battle of the mexican-american war. how is the state of texas working with federal and the
11:19 am
park service to stop the -- >> we were there, our national and state monuments and make sure they are protected and we are happy to collaborate with the feds to ensure that also. >> governor, waiting with help from florida and idaho, [indiscernible] >> we expect additional troops to come in from both florida and idaho in the coming days, and they will be here for, at a minimum several weeks, potentially longer than that. >> two more questions. all right, thank you, guys. >> thank you all. and most importantly, thank you all these brave men and women for the heroic effort they put in. thank you all very much. [applause] >> john: all right, texas governor greg abbott along with
11:20 am
the national guard and texas dps thanking people from the guard and dps for protecting the southern border. as you know, sandra, they put up concertina wire, you can see behind them there, all along the riverbank for the rio grand and refusing to allow people to come up and into the united states. however, since title 42 came off, illegal migrants face different penalties than they did when title 42 was on. they no longer just get pushed back to mexico. they enter a system, and prohibited from coming into the country five years, if the asylum claim is not with merit and then shipped back further than just pushed back into mexico, not allowed to come back into the country for five years. a lot of changes there on the border. >> sandra: and the governor saying we have every right to secure our border. and when he highlighted a growing trend of fellow texans, he said, smuggling people into the state illegally, they are now seeking, he said, a new law
11:21 am
to crack down on that from happening. he said he's seeking a law that would sentence those doing that to ten years in prison. he says the texans, they are seeing a trend of texans stepping in and aiding the cartels. john, a lot of problems that they are facing in that state, and he's trying to lay out the plans to improve the situation there. >> john: the cartels are paying a lot of money to american citizens to get migrants to cross the border. right now, to the debt ceiling talks in washington which have run into a roadblock. negotiators hitting pause after they could not find common ground on discretionary spending, hurtling the united states closer to the default deadline. florida congressman byron donalds will join us in a moment with his thoughts what's going on in the house but begin with white house correspondence jacqui heinrich, live on the north lawn and do we have any idea when this could get back on track, jacqui? >> jacqui: no, we don't, john.
11:22 am
that's the big problem. no plans for a meeting between the principal negotiators, kevin mccarthy and the president, and don't know when staff levels talks are going to resume. we know garrett graves walked out of a meeting on the hill saying the white house was not being reasonable in its position, which sources here at the white house dispute. white house spokesperson tells me a responsible bipartisan budget agreement remains possible if both sides negotiate in good faith and recognize neither side will get everything it wants. there are real differences between the parties on budget issues and talks will be difficult. the president's team is working hard toward a responsible bipartisan solution that can pass both the house and the senate. but the two sides are far apart. you've had democrats calling to keep discretionary spending in place, they want to look at the
11:23 am
defense budget to find way, republicans don't want to touch defense and over permitting reforms, never much agreement on the length and duration of possible spending caps or the amount of cuts each side could live with. >> well, we've got to get moving by the white house, so -- yeah. >> yesterday -- yesterday i really felt we were at the location where i could see the path. the white house is just -- we can't be spending more money next year, we have to spend less than we spent the year before, it's pretty easy. >> jacqui: biden will get another update local time, saturday morning in japan where he is. the dow dropped following the news the talks had faltered and with the potential default deadline less than two weeks away now, there's an increasing risk that the u.s. could see its credit rating downgraded again like what happened in 2011 when the u.s. was too close to the
11:24 am
default deadline without a deal. we are bound now to see more pressure coming from house democrats who want to use a discharge petition to try to force a vote and also from senate democrats who want the president to invoke the 14th amendment if kevin mccarthy and the white house are not able to get things back on track in short order, john. >> john: a lot of dubious processes that are in the works potentially there in the house and senate. thank you for the update. >> sandra: florida republican congressman byron donalds joining us, member of the house oversite and accountability committee. obviously a lot of anticipation for this to happen. can both sides come together? >> well, look, i'll tell you, this is something i actually anticipated would happen. why? you have a white house that was never prepared to actually have these negotiations in the first place. the white house, their staff, senate democrats never thought house republicans would actually put together a plan and pass it
11:25 am
through the house of representatives. they thought we were going to fail, they thought republicans were going to be divided. that is not true. so now they are jumping in at the 11th hour trying to find some way to negotiate a deal. i expect the white house to be to not want to play ball and do what's responsible. a couple of facts for the american people. nearly 32 trillion in debt. under joe biden's spend, over 50 trillion in a decade, in ten years. that's insane. so what the white house has to come to grips with is the fact that our spending levels must come down. we spent massively during covid-19. we understand why we spent massively during covid-19. but it's time to get back to precovid-19 levels. any family would do that, and government must do that as well. >> john: what do you think about the end run around speaker
11:26 am
mccarthy with the discharge petition. last count, 210 votes, they need 218. probably need a couple republicans could to come on board. is that going to happen? >> i don't think it's going to happen and we have anticipated for quite some time they were trying to bring that together. and so we have been talking about different ways to deal with that. i don't think you will see that be successful. and the talk about using the 14th amendment, to me that creates a constitutional crisis in our country. what you would be saying is that congress has no authority to dictate lending or borrowing in our country, and if the president can just do it with the pen and the phone. that's outrageous. at the end of the day, what i think needs to occur is that chuck schumer and senate democrats and some senate republicans, they need to figure out what they can pass in the senate. what do they have 60 votes for? it's not clean debt ceiling,
11:27 am
that's dead on arrival through capitol hill. there has to be something they can put together and maybe house and senate need to negotiate. if we are going to rely on the white house that's been asleep at the wheel, not just this crisis but many others, i think we are fooling ourselves and i think that puts the american people in a terrible position. joe biden is not serious about the fiscal health of our country. >> sandra: i want to pivot to the durham report and the revelations from that, or lack thereof and some of the media reaction to it. listen. >> the whole thing is predicated on -- it's like a rabbit hole conspiracy. >> this is a predictable, sad ending to an investigation that never should have taken place. >> what you have with john durham is like, it's a big fat nothing. >> durham is a kind of pathetic character. >> sandra: james car ville in his trusted lsu t-shirt. and what does the media exist
11:28 am
for, to question government power and among the agencies, we have a media in lock step defending the fbi, congressman. >> you are absolutely right. look, the media was in on this from the beginning in my view. they are the ones that were helping to launder out hillary clinton's phony made up information about donald trump, the same information that she used with her friends at the upper echelon of fbi to start the crossfire hurricane investigation. so her media friends are not going to come out now and say we were wrong and this is damning. they are just going to laugh it off, cover it for 1 or 2 days and then ignore it. this is really dangerous for our country because what the report clearly shows is that you had rank and file in the fbi and three different offices who had serious concerns about the clinton foundation and what was going on around hillary clinton. and i think one of the most damning things in this report that really is not talked about
11:29 am
is that john brennan actually briefed barack obama and then vice president joe biden on july 26th about what the clinton campaign was doing and we have no idea what the reaction was from president obama at that time. you know, he could have shut the whole thing down then and there. obviously he did not. but this is terrible for the country. when you have the political arm of the fbi and the department of justice choosing to go after a presidential candidate simply because he was an outsider who had no ties in washington and because hillary clinton wanted to be president and by hook or by crook she was going to try to get that done. it's a good thing for america that she failed. >> john: let me come back to the allegations in the durham report about four investigations into the clinton foundation undertaken by three fbi field offices. suddenly being shut down shortly before the 2016 election. your colleague in the house,
11:30 am
matt gaetz, and jason want them reopened. should there be congressional investigations? >> i totally agree. we should definitely be looking into this because you have a situation here what they had, some basis of information to start those inquiries and the report clearly shows you had, i believe it was, peter struck and other people high up in the fbi who came in one meeting and shut it down with no reasoning, and then back channel text messages and emails saying look, hillary might be president, do you think she's going to reward you if you continue to look into this. it stinks, and the american people need to know about it. i think those investigations should be restarted into what was going on with the clinton foundation at the time. because if some of the initial allegations are true, that you had foreign countries donating to the clinton foundation for preferential treatment in the
11:31 am
future, i mean -- ladies and gentlemen, there's real concerns that similar situation is happening with the biden administration. so we should be looking into this. >> sandra: appreciate your time today, sir. thank you. >> john: thanks, congressman. >> i've known diane feinstein a very long time, she's definitely hurting i hope she gets better but under the system she got elected, and she will decide to step down. >> sandra: there were reports that feinstein's health was worse than previously known from shingles, and shannon bream is standing by, hi, but first aishah hasnie is live on capitol hill for us. what's the arrangement with pelosi's daughter all about? >> hey, sandra, good afternoon to you. we are learning a few more details about this arrangement
11:32 am
today. senator feinstein's office just told me pelosi's daughter is not an employee, she's not getting paid to be by senator feinstein's side, simply a "dear friend who is there helping her as she recovers from shingles" which is why she was out for three months. now, we have seen her escorting the 89-year-old senator around as questions continue of her fitness to serve on the hill, and former speaker nancy pelosi has openly supported congressman adam schiff for feinstein's senate seat when it becomes vacant. adam schiff's chances to get the seat are higher if feinstein stays on through her term, because governor newsom is vowing to appoint a black woman to that seat if feinstein steps down early. now, spokesman for former speaker pelosi just told fox
11:33 am
that her friendship is personal, not political. anyone who knows senator feinstein knows her service in the senate is entirely her own decision and that speaker pelosi would not suggest otherwise. republicans on the other hand are defending feinstein's right to stay, while many, many democrats are actually calling on her to step down, they don't feel that she is still fit to serve. senate candidate katie porter came out and said that this should urge congress to pass some sort of a policy for infirmed lawmakers and what to do if a lawmaker gets to this situation. >> sandra: aishah, thank you. john. >> john: shannon bream, fox news sunday anchor and chief legal correspondent. good to have the bream team with us this afternoon. one of the things we are talking about here clearly is the health of a couple of members of the senate, notable ones,
11:34 am
congresswoman katie porter, going to be running for feinstein's seat, wants a provision to address so-called infirm lawmakers. there was a reaction that feinstein had on tuesday insisting she was not away with shingles for three months. feinstein, i haven't been done, i've been working. the reporter, you've been working from home? no, i've been here, i've been voting. please either know or don't know. what does that tell you? >> yeah, and there have been some other anecdotes we heard from capitol hill on how she's doing, and you'll notice a lot of the senators say, i have not talked to her, she's not shown up at the caucus and so i cannot give you a personal take how she's doing. they want the best for her, she's been there for decades, long relationships on both sides of the aisle and katie porter is
11:35 am
saying it's not just her, it's fetterman as well. if they think they cannot perform the duties of the job, someone missing, it's important for the democrats. they needed that vote, kept them from moving a lot of nominees. >> john: you mentioned fetterman. we discover his office has quietly been adjusting the transcripts of some of the things he has been saying to clean them up a little bit. for example, when fetterman questioned a silicon valley bank executive his office put out this quote from a transcript. shouldn't you have a working requirement after we bail out your bank, republicans seem to be more pro occupied with snap requirements for hungry people than protecting taxpayers that have to bail out the banks. the video type what he said. >> shouldn't you have a working requirement with the sale of the billions of the bank,
11:36 am
preoccupied when then snap -- and requirements for works for hungry people. but not about protecting the taxpayer, you know, that will bail them whatever does about the bank to crash it. >> john: those are two very different things. >> it's hard to watch, no matter what your personal politics are, you know he's struggling and he left to get help for mental health, we celebrate that. but questions from his own party whether he's able to be an effective member of the senate. he's there for six years. voters were convinced enough that he was up to the job, but when you have people from your own party raising those questions, it puts a spotlight on you. >> john: 2024, tim scott filed papers to run for president, going to make the announcement on monday. we expect next week ron desantis will pull the trigger as well. told the "new york times," three people who are credible, biden, trump and me, and two have a chance to get elected president, biden and me based on all the
11:37 am
data in the swing states. he's already writing off trump. >> yeah, and he does so at his own... own peril. you have to go head to head with him. the trump campaign has been going after him a long time they see him as a very worthy rival. they have gone after him on everything from disney to abortion and everything in between and desantis out there, and used the language, gop has to get away from a culture at losing, clearly a swipe at president trump. these two are going to be katie bar the door as my dad used to say once desantis is there. >> john: that's a good old saying, but you cannot dismiss the person polling twice the rate as you are. fox news sunday. >> ted cruz, and jack reed will talk about the debt ceiling, the border, talk of using the 14th amendment to go around congress on the debt ceiling and talk about senator feinstein as well. >> john: what's the legality of that.
11:38 am
>> the white house is worried it will get caught up in litigation and keep them from using it anyway. i say goes straight to court and probably ends up at scotus. >> sandra: john, shannon, thank you. a group of moms in texas are taking their grief and turning it into action after losing children to fentanyl. their mission to educate young kids is going all the way to the texas senate. >> john: plus larry kudlow on the debt fight. do you think he's got something to say about this? john, check back with us after the break. we'll find out. to debate and draft the u.s. constitution? turns out they didn't trust the printing of paper money, but they did trust gold and silver. article 1, section 10. gold and silver. good for the founders, good for me, good for you. rosland capital - is a trusted leader in helping people acquire precious metals. gold bullion, lady liberty gold and silver proofs,

permitting so you read permitting looked like they would get it. the democratic position on permitting is only for renewables and for transmission lines for renewables, not for fossil fuels. the gop is not going to take that. they just passed their whole bill. then the issue of the caps, 1% budget caps, arguments about how long the caps would be in place, democrats wanted a year or two, mccarthy bill was ten years. they argued about defense versus nondefense. they argued about how long the ceiling would be increased, the democrats wanted two years, republicans wanted one year. they scrapped all the, you know, take out the greenie tax credits and the ira bill, student loan cancellations is off the table. >> sandra: we have past the middle of may, june 1st is

has been railing on about that. and they won't go through with the full nepa, you know, timetable -- that's, you know, permitting and the nepa stuff was done in the economic council, our shop. so i'm watching this and sure enough the democrats came away. now, there's a few, you know, you'll get a joe manchin and so forth but not enough. and the freedom caucus has said very clearly, on my show last night, this is the bill. the only debt ceiling increase bill is the mccarthy bill passing the house and his point was we are not budging, we are not gonna negotiate with ourselves, we want to see what the senate comes up with, the senate has produced nothing. and by the white house has produced nothing. it's very clear this is their position. otherwise people will tell you insiders, house members and staff will tell you, if you start compromising the way the democrats want and you are ripping the bill apart, you rip

the timetables, the caps, you need 100 votes, 100 democratic votes to pass this. many republicans will not vote if it gets so watered down. this is reminiscent of john boehner in 2011. mccarthy is in a tough position. you cannot rely on democratic votes if you expect to bring your own republican conference with you. so at the moment it's not good. i mean, i know the stock market is down -- >> sandra: i was going to say, pop up the dow here. lindsey graham said no fear, wall street, it's going to get done, and he seemed to talk the markets out of it but they are back down. >> larry: lindsey spoke, we had a dinner last night and people were looking at each other said oh, really? but i know this, and that, and lindsey says don't worry, everything is cool.
