attention because this is now a national cyber war. >> hello, i'm eric, along with dana, kimberly, bob and greg. it's 5:00 in new york city and this is "the five." president obama delivered what should be his final remarks of 2014 a few hours ago. the president then took questions from the press, he only took ability questions, some say the president ignored television reporters because he didn't have the more severe push back his comments may create, just before getting -- the topics were north korea hacking sony, the normalization of relations with cuba, the keystone pipeline and race in america, and a couple of others,

critics wonder why the president vsiyw employees. i am sympathetic to the concerns that they face. having said all that, yes, i think they made a mistake. i wish they had spoken to me first. i would have told them, do not get into a pattern in which you're intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks. >> as for the u.s. response to north korea's hack -- >> they caused a lot of damage. and we will respond. we will respond proportionately
1:02 am
and we will respond in a place and time and manner that we choose, it's not something that i will announce here today in a press conference. >> so, greg, sony made a mistake, huh? >> i guess sony did, and so did, i think the theaters. this thing about him only calling on women today, i figured out this theory, because it's december 19, which is the day that bill clinton was impeached who also had a habit of calling on women. so i think it was kind of a subtle tribute to the man with his pants down. >> and by the way, most america of would not care about this story if the movie was "love actually". >> i liked that movie. >> that was a jab at dana. >> i know. >> i believe that the president has been so concerned on lecturing the world on climate change that there's real concrete habits. in this case, whatever he condemns like car gone, north korea smiles because it's like,
1:03 am
here you have the president of the united states watering his plants while we're setting your house on fire. he's got to learn to prioritize, he's now saying this is a threat, but this should have been a threat all along. >> k.g., president obama and hillary clinton, they both blamed the filmmaker. >> remember that. >> yes, this is the same guy that at sony that made the decision not to air the movie. >> one was a politically convenient truth and one one inconvenient. here he's saying something i think is right, that we shouldn't be intimidated. why didn't he contact them? i don't know, somebody from his office should have contacted to him about it, especially since this is a tcyber crime, they should have been in contact with the u.s. government, because the
1:04 am
federal bureau of investigations was on top of it in getting all the information, sauce -- "the wall street journal" was reporting that the white house was going to put north korea on their terrorism watch lift. >> it was on a terrorism watch list, or a state sponsored terrorism list. it was on and i don't think that kim jong-un really cares. i am cure outside about the president's decision to attack a u.s. company in a press conference. i think that his instincts on that were wrong, because a couple of things, you have to assume that the sony executives had information that we don't have. and it's not just -- i can't imagine it's just about their e-mails, because that's already out there, it's embarrassing, it probably can't get much worse. they're making decisions as a company based on what their lawyers are telling them, make sure the government is informed about the actual hacking and the criminal act. if i were sony, i might ask the
1:05 am
u.s. government why weren't you there to protect us from a nation state from attacking us? i think michael linton, the ceo of sony, i got to work with him at the broadcasting board of governors, he's an extremely thoughtful gooir. today when he did an interview, even when the president attacked sony publicly in front of the world, they were still class si and did not strike that. but they might. >> if i were sony right now, really, president obama? we made a mistake? i tell you what, we're going to release it at the bequest and behest of obama. what do you think of that? then they hang it on him off themselves. >> you're scaring me. the thing that i find amazing is that if anybody believes that north korea can do this without china number one. the other thing is what are you going to do to north korea?
1:06 am
in fact? what are you going to do, hack into their prison system? the thing that i found interesting, i hate to say this but i have to. >> let's move on to the other big story of the week, the move towards normaliziing u.s. nlb'çr@&eysg?!mzt=rç÷m$ét?szi5ç+ i don't know how this relationship will develop over the next several years, i'm a fairly young man, so i imagine at some point in my life i will have the opportunity to visit cuba and enjoy interacting with the cube began people.
1:07 am
>> dana, a lot of people are speculating. >> if you're the castro regime and you run the media in cuba, what you do is you take that sound bite that says i'm a young man and i'm looking forward to going to cuba and it's going to be great. and they're like, yes, we are so awesome here in cuba, because the castro regime basically won. history will probably look back and say this is a good decision and at the right time. i just think it could be explained a lot better. you get the feeling that fresh cigars trump cop killer who is are currently serving in havana, there's no -- there's also a sense that all the bad stuff that happened, it's a long time ago, can't we all get together. but it's not -- but it's not just, you know, we have had our differences, cuba is a marxist death yard that is actively predicted our demise, and if we had a president who can
1:08 am
negotiate some concessions, i would be okay with this, but he couldn't negotiate a hack off a mannequin, and that worries me, it's like what are we giving away here. >> he did mention that he was looking to get 53 people who are looking to be harbored back in cuba. >> he's got to say that, otherwise it looks really bad. >> maybe he watched for his monologue. >> that's what it is. it all ties back to the -- i'm sure he's looking forward to going to cuba, it's like a commercial for cuba, when the nfl quarterback says i'm going to disney land. president obama, i'm a young guy, i'm going to cuba. it's perfect propaganda for them and it sort of just washes away all the human rights violations and justices from this team. >> when with beyonce and 5z çoi x-d2)ees[ hey, mr. president, you ought to go here too. >> first thing i want to say is
1:09 am
i was in the white house during the boat lift, and while -- >> i think you're too old for me, i decided. i was there during lincoln's second inaugural. they put everybody, all their nut cases and they dumped them and actually cost bill clinton his governorship in arkansas because part of that went to kim. u but in any event, let's keep in mind these negotiations are ongoing, i do think he will get released unless and if congress does still have the power of the purse, they can build an embassy or not build an embassy. >> kwhoyou know what would be a amazing move on president obama's part. if he were to intimate or say that he were tá @nxy#pkç52!lzsúa

all under beneath our streets, going through our cities and towns, rivers and forests. the potential for train accidents is far more dangerous than pipeline. we have 2.5 million miles of pipeline, why is this a problem now? >> he also said at the very end of his keystone little answer, by the way, keystone won't have an affect on pipelines. >> somebody ripped about six pages out of the manual, because it seems he just missed the boat, i guess he doesn't watch your show. >> the fact that your gas prices are plummeting. the pressure is off a little bit. but they passed a bill, and as a keystone pine line, he will sign it. >> a lot of people heard they'll get a bill through. >> before the election, i would have said bob was right and i actually said keystone is

understood for some time. and that is there are specific instances at least where the -- where law enforcement doesn't feel as if it's being applied in a color blind fashion. >> bob w all that's going race is better today than when he was going with president obama. >> i agree with that, but beyond that, trying to focusing on cops murdering blacks is the wrong way to go. what i think he said here is right. it is a black community, and they get stopped more, they get frisked more, they get stopped more? >> now or six years ago 134. >> i think probably a little bit less than it was. but still, 99% of cops are fine, i don't believe there's many racist cops in america. i just don't think you can say it's all fine.
1:14 am
>> there's a lot of people that get stopped by cops, you just have to -- they are profiled, let's be honest about it. >> a lot of it is mistaken as profiling because there are police officers working hard in those communities to protect the law abiding citizens in that community from the lawbreakers, so it just stand to reason that -- however i have no qualm with what he said, ill thought what he said was sensible, and it was sober. and i think -- i thought it was fine. >> i think so too, i can maybe just make a comment about overall, this being the last press conference of the sixth year, and now he go into the next two years. none of that is actually going to stick because it hasn't gone through congress. he faces a very different situation in january with a new congress that's a lot more republicans, not just on the senate side, but that will be the biggest difference, but on the house side as well.
1:15 am
and what will happen pretty quickly here, is reporters are going to start looking past him to see who's behind and they're going to start covering the campaign and that will be -- >> i don't know why he did not raise isis, isis just took the biggest hit they have had, they have raised a lot of questions within the was peek. >> i think we have seen the president obama that we're going to see. i don't think -- i think that he can be very charming behind the scenes, when he gets to the .:skn÷8=jhu;ç,5-dexpxkñods

george clooney tried to get ---it tells you that celebrities only join causes that benefits their profiles. if there's a hint of risk, they fold faster than harvey winestein. as for the ways to climb the ladder of compatible compassion. only so many celebrities flock to green causes. if you march against fracking, maybe no one will not that your last movie tanked since thanksgiving. i thought hollywood was the land of the rebel. all those anti-heroes they create by the bushel, the edgy bad as that struts into town,

1:24 am
>> this is a great opportunity for them to be creative and strong at the same time. come up with and different idea, different approach, do something instead of just caving in. >> just to defend sony, i just think that making that decision in this two-week period, is probably easy to do, but it's probably fraught with a lot of details. >> and fbi information, we don't know everything that they know, perhaps there was specific attacks planned and they had some real intelligence and that was credible. >> we do know that clooney could not get anybody to sign this petition. this is going to come back to haunt them. >> they didn't make a movie about this because they can't portray themselves as heroes. if hollywood would stop -- >> could i do a quick thing on

sharpton? because now all of a sudden, sharpton has inserted itself once again into a controversy because of the e-mails between the head of sony and now he's like, he's now controlling the conflict and we got to stop with him followed by giuliani's response. >> had hollywood not had such an exclusionary almost all white hierarchy, one could look at the context difference. but being that hollywood is an environment that still resembles 1950s america. it is a context that is confirmed by the language. the jury is still out on where we go. >> the jury is out? i only saw one member of that jury, it was him. >> it's got to be ridiculous. now hollywood is going to have al sharpton as the jury and north korea as a sensor. we'll get to see the movies that al sharpton and north korea

1:32 am
that he wasn't mentioned by the president at all when talking about 2016. and meanwhile, jeb thinks he can persuade republicans to back his position on immigration. here's the governor. >> a candidate gets to persuade and i think there's a compelling case that if we want to be young and dynamic again, we have to, a, make legal immigration easier than illegal immigration, that we control our borders, that we enforce the laws, but that we embrace our immigrant heritage and allow this country to take off. i have no problems advancing that idea. >> and a lot of your base disagrees with that. >> bob, you were shaking your head in agreement. >> let me tell you why. obama should have said thank you to him on that. >> you look at the what he says, you got to protect the borders, enforce the law and at the same time encourage young people and other people who are here
