situation that involved several teams, unfitted people driving recklessly, driving on the side wake, driving the wrong way down a one-way street, running red lights, as petitions were trying to get out of the way at one point. again we're here at the 19th precinct located about a mile or so from the ziegfeld theater where this event was taking place last night, honors the duchess of sussex. apparently they walked the red carpet. once the event was over, once they got in the car, along with meghan markle's mother, they were swarmed by the paparazzi, chased for several blocks. they ended up at the 19th precinct just to get away from the paparazzi, regroup and figure out their next move. new york city's mayor weighing in on all of this.

a serious security breach is under investigation. the secret service is looking into how an intruder got inside the home of national security adviser jake sullivans. his protective detail did not see him. sullivan encountered this person inside his washington, d.c. home. he told the investigators that the intruder appeared to be intoxicated. the source told cnn the intruder did not make a threat. the intruder left unnoticed by security person necessarily. brianna? >> so worrying.

[ bleep ]. >> reporter: other examples that have shaken lawmakers including an attack on former congressman lee zeldin at a campaign event for the run for governor last july. the suspect had a weapon. zeldin wasn't injured. earlier a man attacked angie craig in the elevator of her apartment building. according to police, she is tossed her hot coffee on the offender to defend herself. >> the proliferation of use of social media, and the just -- the increasingly the increasing divide in our country politically has a lot to do with it, with the increase in threats. >> and the challenge for lawmakers, brianna is that they have a public facing job. they want to communicate with their constituents.

>> that's right. it is a concession. what we have heard from the state department up to today is that they don't think they should share in dissent cable in full with the house, because they think this is a sacred channel, and they thought their description was sufficient. we have heard from the committee investigating the afghan withdrawal is that those descriptions of what was in the dissent memo just weren't enough. now the state department is saying they will allow the top republican and top democrat on the economiee to come to the state department and in tamara review it without the names who signed that cable actually attached to the cable itself. the question here is if the committee is actually going to accept that. are they going to want staffers to be able to see it? are they going to want to see the secretary's response to that

dissent cable? we're waiting to see exactly what they do, but this is a clear concession as the threat of holding the secretary of state in contempt of congress was very clear. >> we'll see what chairman mccall does now. and the lab leak theory, what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: listen, this report doesn't actually change a whole lot. it is significant, such that this report, which was done by senator rubio, who is the top republicans on the intelligence committee in the senate, there is circumstantial evidence that the investigation has unearthed that backs the lab leak theory, the theory that covid-19

accidentally leaked from a lab in china. what we are recognizing when we look at this report. they in their own words say there's no smoking gun here. as i described, circumstantial evidence essentially means they have heard new details that would lead one to believe that the lab leak theory is the most likely scenario for how covid originated, but they don't make that case definitively. this report says incorrect evidence that the most senior leadership of the ccp, the chinese communist party, likely had at least limited knowledge of the laboratory incident by no later than the middle of november 2019. obviously, that is much earlier than chinese officials actually publicly acknowledged. that's significant. it could indicate there was some sort of cover-up that was happening by chinese officials,

a grand jury has indicted the suspect in the murders of these four university of idaho college students, victims of grisly stabbings. last saturday, the fours victims were awarded posthumous degrees. today, the graduate student was indicted on four counts of murder and one count of burglary. jean casarez joins us now on this. they arrested kohberger on this. republican it means the case is head to do trial. the prosecutors decided to convene a grand jury. that grand jury heard testimony from witnesses, and an order was just filed sealing what witnesses actually testified in the grand jury.

so we will never know. they decided to issue as indictment, four counts of murder, and one count the burglar. why did they switch gears? there was supposed to be a preliminary hearing at the end of june, a very public proceeding and now it's all in secret. it preserves the jury pool in the moscow area, but it goes along with this gag order that no one can speak, no information can be disseminated, but on monday, in an open-court here bryan kohberger will appear in district court. and then this case will proceed. the next thing to watch out for is, will the prosecution file notice of intent to seek the death penalty. >> and we'll be looking for
