idolizing when you were young kid? jay: when you grow up in a little town in new england, nobody had cool cars. i was nine years old and riding my bicycle. polishing a man 1951 jaguar. i was fixated. i had never seen anything like that. in 1959 most car magazines were in black and white. you didn't get any excitement from it. >> who taught you how to drive? there was an abandoned car in a field near my friends house. we would go over there and work on it all stop we got it running and we would try to run the field all day. his mom would sit in the kitchen window and watch us. >> what you started making real

money, did you buy a special car? the first car i bought when i came to california with my 1955 buick roadmaster. i got the plane, had no place to live, and in california you need a car. i bought the 1955 buick. i lived in it. i slept in it. i met my wife and it. to my first tonight show. and i still have it. that was a special car. >> how would you define a luxury car? jay: nobody does luxury like the french. comfort while driving. cars don't appear to the ostentatious or flashy, but they are nice to drive and very comfortable. we americans confuse luxury with garish. look at trump's apartment, is sitting on a gold chair comfortable? no.
