with depression and alcohol. hello and thanks forjoining us. we're going to start at roland—garros and we've got ourselves the first big shock of the french open, where the men's world number two, daniil medvedev is out, beaten by brazilian qualifier thiago seyboth wild over five sets. medvedev was fresh from winning his first clay court title in rome, but his opponent, ranked 172nd in the world, pounced on the russian*s inconsistency to book a first grand slam second—round spot. medvedev, though, said he was glad the clay court season was over after the match. for sure, i'm really disappointed. i'm going to be one week thinking about this match, but for the moment, i don't see anything wrong i did. i mean, double faults — i mean, the wind was crazy today, so it was not easy.
1:46 am
i think i made most of them. i mean, it doesn't matter even which side. it was tough, tough to play. so, yeah, i don't see anything i could really do better. and that's good. that's when you can bounce back faster in the next tournaments. well, no such problems for defending champion iga swiatek. after a slow start, the world number one gave herself an early birthday gift a day before turning 22 by cruising past spain's cristina bucsa, 6—4, 6—0. yeah, i feel pressure. i would be lying if i said i don't, but i'm trying to kind of work with it and just play my game, no matter, you know, all the circumstances and the expectations from the outside. it's not easy, but basically i think it's like the most important thing in tennis right now to cope with that properly. and i already know how to do that. so, i have all hopes that i'm going to continue doing that. to rugby union and it's been

a turbulent 2a hours for english premiership side london irish — risking suspension from the league, they were granted an extra week's grace by the rugby football union to allow an american consortium to complete the takeover of the club. however, in the latest twist, it's emerged that london irish's ownership has offered to pay only 50% of salaries, which are due on wednesday. players found out this latest development at an emergency squad meeting on tuesday evening. it means the rfu will now have to decide whether they will grant an extension based on this, given one of the conditions for the extension was for the payroll to be met. staying with rugby union, and france prop mohamed haouas has been sentenced to one year in jail for domestic abuse. he was arrested on friday for hitting his wife when he saw her smoking after telling him she had stopped. the incident is likely to end any hopes haouas had of being picked for september's world cup in france. the french rugby federation called his behaviour inadmissible and "incompatible with representing our country at international level".

triple olympic champion adam peaty says more gold medals won't solve the mental health problems he's been suffering. the swimmer, who hopes to add to his historic medal haul in paris next year, pulled out of the british championships last month, saying he was tired and had been in a self—destructive spiral. he's been explaining more to our correspondent graham satchell. here he is. the commonwealth games last summer. peaty hadn't lost a race for more than seven years. what can peaty do here? behind the scenes, the pressure of being at the top year after year was starting to take its toll. i was on this endless search for a gold medal or a world record. i kind of looked into the future and go, ok, if we do get that, is my life fixed or is my life any better? no. peaty down in fourth. just living with your own brain and living with the person on your shoulder that says you aren't good enough, because if you have the conversation with it and go, "no, i am, this is why," then you start to have a healthy relationship
1:49 am
with yourself instead of a self—destructive spiral. in a series of posts on social media, adam has been searingly honest about his struggles with his mental health, with alcohol. a lot of athletes do struggle with alcohol, and for me, i was in a place where i wasn't really happy with how it had started to control my life. it was something that i was constantly chasing and constantly doing and i was like, i don't really want this for my life. i don't really want to do this all the time. but you have to get... you have to seek help and you have to figure out how the brain works, especially if you're quite different, such as an elite athlete, because we're just so different from everyone else in the sense of how we operate and how we see the world. adam has recently been diagnosed with adhd. he's been getting treatment, which he says has helped, and he's taken a break from competing. and there's been a lot of tears, there's been a lot of sweat, a little bit of blood. but the tears are like, i should not be crying for something i love. once you address that issue,
1:50 am
ok, do you need a break? yes. have the break and we'll come back. and i'm not hiding from the lows, i'm not hiding from that side of the brain which is hyperactive, and i don't really understand any more. look at this. utterly brilliant. adam peaty is the double olympic champion. tokyo, the last olympic games. adam is now back in training for next year and paris. ijust owe it to myself to come from this low and teach people that if you're in the lowest of the low, you can find a way out of it. and the olympics for me is that climb up. it's the battle that we've lost, but we're going to win the war. well, on thursday, the english cricketing summit will feel like it's really arrived, with the first test match of the year, the four—day game between england and ireland at lord's. it serves as the team's only warm—up for the upcoming ashes series. worcestershire seamer

josh tongue will make his test debut in an england side that will also includejonny bairstow. as expected, james anderson will be rested for the match, along with ollie robinson. both are expected to be fit for the ashes, which starts in just over two weeks' time. bairstow, meanwhile, is back for the first time since breaking his leg. he'll bat at seven and take the wicketkeeping gloves. it has been a remarkable post—season from the miami heat. they're heading to the nba finals to take on the nuggets, having crushed the boston celtics' dreams of a historic comeback in game 7. miami securing their spot despite being the lowest seeded team to reach the nba finals since the new york knicks in 1999. the heat this season alone had some of the most injured roster as well as illness—plagued roster. i think they were fourth in the league for the most time missed because of those. then they miss... they lose that first play—in game, then they win, then they knock out the bucks, the big bad team of the east that everybody thought would be in the finals. and here they are today
1:52 am
and they have the most undrafted player on a roster going into the finals. it is a cinderella story that almost nobody thought would be here, and they fought through so much adversity, i think more than any other team in the east to now book their ticket to the nba finals. well, conversely, meanwhile, denver head coach michael malone isn't buying into the fairy tale aspect of the lowest—seeded miami's nba finals appearance. you get to the nba finals, it's not about seeding any more. and for those that are thinking that this is going to be an easy series... i don't know what to say to you people. i mean, this is going to be the biggest challenge of our lives. it's the nba finals. you know, you're trying to win the first nba championship in franchise history. it's going to be the hardest thing that we've ever done. to golf, and john rahm says the ryder cup should be contested between the best of europe and america, regardless of players' liv golf status. the two—time major winner said he was sad he wouldn't be able
1:53 am
to renew his partnership with fellow spaniard sergio garcia, as garcia is ineligible for the contest after resigning from the european tour to join the saudi funded liv tour. it's a little sad to me that politics have gotten in the way of such a beautiful event. again, it's the best europeans against the best americans, period. and whatever is going on, who's playing liv and who's not playing liv to me shouldn't matter — it's whoever*s best suited to represent the european side. and i have a hard time to believe that the best player europe has ever had, the most successful player europe has had on the ryder cup, is not fit to be on the team. football now and some news ahead of that monumental manchester derby in the fa cup final at wembley on saturday. united forward anthony martial will miss the match after tests revealed the 27—year—old had suffered a muscle tear sustained in sunday's 2—1 win against fulham at old trafford. in an injury—hit campaign, martial scored six goals and made two assists in 21 premier league

matches this season. victory for united on saturday would secure a domestic double for the club, having won the league cup in february. a win would also, of course, deny their city rivals' bid to match the treble won by sir alex ferguson's united in 1999, with premier league champions city also playing, of course, in next month's champions league final. and another day, another tirade at tottenham forjose mourinho, as he used his latest press conference to criticise chairman daniel levy. mourinho is rumoured to have another chance of european silverware at the europa league final against sevilla in hungary on wednesday. a few days ago, the portuguese manager was critical of levy for giving him the sack as spurs head coach just before the league cup final, and on the eve of another final, couldn't resist having another pop. roma, they didn't sack me before the final in tirana. tottenham, they sacked me

before the final at wembley. roma gave me the chance to win the final at tirana, and at tottenham, i had no chance. and that's all your sport for now. from me, mark edwards and the rest of the team, bye—bye. hello there. 25.1 celsius was the high in porthmadog in north—west wales on tuesday, making it the warmest day of the year so far across the country. and for the rest of the week, it does stay mainly dry thanks to high pressure, always the warmest and the sunniest of the weather towards western parts of the uk, always a bit cooler and cloudier further east. now this is the blocking area of high pressure which will continue to bring this mainly dry weather. but if you cast your eyes down towards southern europe, it's a different story. here, we've got daytime showers and thunderstorms breaking out
1:56 am
for the rest of the week. so rainfall totals will continue to mount here. could even see some localised flooding in places but further north, thanks that area of high pressure, it's going to stay almost bone dry, but we could see some drizzle at times across eastern england under the thickest of the cloud as we start early wednesday and under that cloud blanket, which will spread across much of england and wales temperatures won't fall much below seven to ten degrees, but chilly under the clear skies in the northwest and a little bit of mist and fog, but it's here where you'll see the sunshine from the word go for wednesday morning. the clouds tending to thin and break and burn back to the coast could linger across parts of the midlands, eastern england once again. and it'll be chilly along north sea coast and the northern isles down to the southeast, mid—teens there, but up to the mid 20s, central belt of scotland, low 20s for northern ireland and parts of wales. wednesday night, the low cloud rolls back into eastern scotland, much of central, southern eastern england and also parts of wales. and again, those temperatures ranging from around six to nine
1:57 am
degrees, but a few chillier spots under the clear skies in the northwest. we do it all again for thursday. best of the sunshine again across northern and western areas, eastern scotland, eastern england will see that cloud burn back to the coast. but again, with the onshore breeze, which will be quite fresh across the east, in the south east, it'll feel cooler here as opposed to western areas which will see temperatures again into the low 20 celsius. similar picture on friday, most of the cloud across northern and eastern areas. again, more of a breeze in across the southeast. that'll temper the temperatures somewhat. i think temperatures are a little lower across the board. we're in the low 20s out west in the sunshine, as opposed to the mid—20s. but into the weekend it stays largely fine. dry, plenty of sunshine again. best of the sunshine out west, always a bit cloudier and cooler along the north sea coast.
